Has Senator Corker Actually Read the US Constitution?
I believe that Senator Corker is sincere in his belief that US monetary policy should not be politicized and that is his rationale for not wanting to exercise any influence upon (or even outright abolish) the unconstitutional Federal Reserve. While Senator Corker might have good intentions my mother has a saying about where good intentions lead... The fundamental issue at hand is that Congress has the responsibility to "coin money, [and] regulate the value thereof...". Nowhere in the US Constitution is Congress authorized to bestow that responsibility elsewhere. Senator Corker is of course correct that US monetary policy should not be politicized. He is also correct when he says that we should not trust politicians "such as himself" on this issue (remember Senator Corker voted for the bailout). However once again he finds himself at odds with the US Constitution. But he is in good company because the other Republican Senator from Tennessee, Lamar Alexander, refuses to uphold his oath to the Constitution too. It is deeply disturbing how such a simple concept can be unashamedly ignored by those who sworn an oath to the contrary. Fortunately the People of Tennessee are starting to realize this as evidenced at a recent town hall meeting:
