Has Senator Corker Actually Read the US Constitution?

[Newer: How we should remember Sen Kennedy (or how many times did he violate the Constitution?)] [Older: DCRP Chair Overstepped Her Bounds]

I believe that Senator Corker is sincere in his belief that US monetary policy should not be politicized and that is his rationale for not wanting to exercise any influence upon (or even outright abolish) the unconstitutional Federal Reserve. While Senator Corker might have good intentions my mother has a saying about where good intentions lead...

The fundamental issue at hand is that Congress has the responsibility to "coin money, [and] regulate the value thereof...". Nowhere in the US Constitution is Congress authorized to bestow that responsibility elsewhere.

Senator Corker is of course correct that US monetary policy should not be politicized. He is also correct when he says that we should not trust politicians "such as himself" on this issue (remember Senator Corker voted for the bailout). However once again he finds himself at odds with the US Constitution. But he is in good company because the other Republican Senator from Tennessee, Lamar Alexander, refuses to uphold his oath to the Constitution too.

It is deeply disturbing how such a simple concept can be unashamedly ignored by those who sworn an oath to the contrary. Fortunately the People of Tennessee are starting to realize this as evidenced at a recent town hall meeting:

I've written him a couple times on the same point myself. I don't think he has ever taken the time to read the US constitution either. I liken Corker to the well connected law student who cheats himself through school and has to hire another lawyer to handle his cases once he's begun to practice. I can't really put my finger on ignorance of environment or just shear ignorance but either would prevail in his case. I'm pretty sure he just consults our favorite senator Alexander on most issues and continues to shmooze his way along. Then he gets chairs thrown at him by the UAW. Those liberals can be so violent sometimes. Come on Bobby!!
