Letter To My Representatives And The President Regarding Health Care Reform
The following letter was submitted seperately to each of my representatives in the House and Senate as well as to President Obama: Dear Representative Kosmas, Senator Martinez, and Senator Nelson, President Obama, I believe that the entire conversation about health care reform is limited and one sided. It presupposes that access to insurance and pharmaceutical drugs is the big concern and problem for every American and this is NOT the case. There are millions of Americans like me and my family who believe in and practice preventative and natural "health" care rather than the "disease" care that is dominated and controlled by pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies. If this health care reform passes, or any like it, then my family and I will be in danger of losing our freedom to choose. I am already disgusted at even the thought that... ...the Federal or State Government can force a family to put their son on chemotherapy and radiation against their will, when they prefer to utilize non-invasive and natural forms of healing (we allow a woman a right to choose on abortion - another issue that is non of the Federal Government's business - but will force a foreign substance to be injected or ingested into our children against their and their parents will)... ...or that they might consider using the National Guard to force the American people to take a bird or swine flu vaccination against their will... ...these are the kinds of violations of individual liberties that one would expect to see in a communist country or Nazi Germany. We do not have health insurance because we choose NOT to have health insurance and choose to handle our health ourselves, only going to the doctor or turning to drugs, surgery, etc, in a true emergency...like a trauma. We do not wish to have pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, or federal and state governments, making decisions for us about how to manage our health or the health of our child. My wife and I haven't needed to see a doctor in 10 years and haven't been sick beyond a common cold in that time, which we allow to run its course with fluids, healthy food, and rest. Our son is 14 months old, was born at home naturally and has never needed to see a doctor having never been sick, not even with a diaper rash. And it isn't because we are "lucky" or "have good genes" either... All of this is possible for us because we educated ourselves about how to:
We believe that drugs, surgery, and other invasive therapies are necessary only in an emergency or as a last resort, rather than the first line of "defense" that the modern medical system insists that it is with the help of profit seeking insurance companies. We believe that insurance can be helpful for emergency care (like car insurance) but that health decisions should be made by individuals with the help and guidance of their choice of health care professional... The Constitution gives us that right along with our other individual liberties and the federal government does not have the right to take it from us to profit insurance and pharmaceutical companies with our tax dollars! Human beings are NOT suffering with disease from a lack of insurance or from a deficiency of prescription drugs, but rather from making consistent lifestyle choices that are toxic that we as a society have created and promoted out of our desire for convenience. There are millions of Americans like me who still believe in personal responsibility when it comes to managing one's health and well being. What is missing is access to the information and resources people need to make responsible choices and the support to make those choices consistently. You wouldn't neglect washing your car, vacuuming the interior, changing the oil, changing the filters, or replenishing the fluids, etc, and then when the car broke down, go down to the mechanic and say "fix it" expecting Geico to pay for your neglect would you? Yet this is how people treat their most important vehicle - their body...and the system perpetuates this ridiculous behavior for profit rather than with the patient's interest in mind. If you want to pass a health care reform bill, then pass one that:
Don't misunderstand me...we are very practical and realistic, but believe in being personally responsible in this area (which, by the way, is a requirement for a Republic based on individual liberty to work). If one of my family members is in an accident, like a car wreck for example, or sustains some form of injury unexpectedly that can't be handled without the help medical attention, believe me, we will be in the emergency room like everyone else... BUT, we will manage our lifestyle before and after to ensure that we heal properly rather than loading up on prescription drugs and we would only do surgery as a last resort after every other option has been examined thoroughly. My mother was born with an insufficient heart valve and needed to have it replaced a few years ago due to an enlarging heart. She needed to take drugs and have surgery and her surgery was a total success and a miracle of modern medical science... BUT, before her surgery, she managed her lifestyle so she could go in with an otherwise healthy and strong body, she avoided hospital food which is not designed to promote healing and ate food we brought in for her during her stay, and after being discharged from the hospital she managed her lifestyle to promote and accelerate healing naturally with food as her medicine, rather than taking and staying on a bunch of prescription drugs that interfere with what the human body can do naturally. I should also mention that she was walking circles around the nursing station the day after, was discharged early, and was riding her bike 18 miles per day within 2 weeks after her surgery to the amazement of her cardiologist who seemed to be confused about how the body can heal on its own without the drugs and unnecessary testing he wanted to prescribe and have her insurance company pay for. The millions of people with beliefs and practices similar to ours do NOT drive up health care costs, we drive them down...we do NOT burden the system, we relieve the system of burden...we do NOT put our problems on the tax payer, we handle them ourselves. Please don't forget about people like us who expect you to stand for our individual liberty...we have a Constitutional Right To Choose what is best for ourselves and our children. We deserve the right to choose a Chiropractor or even a Natural Health Coach over a Medical Doctor. We deserve the right to refuse drugs, surgeries, and invasive therapies - including vaccinations - and choose alternative non-invasive therapies instead, for ourselves and for our children. We deserve the right to choose food as our medicine and allow our bodies to heal themselves naturally and as God intended. This health care reform will take away our health freedom and we will not stand for it.
