[Newer: Audit the Fed in the News] [Older: Ron Paul on "Freedom Watch"]

This press release just out from Dr. Paul's congressional office:

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) is pleased to announce that all 178 Republican members of the House have now signed on as cosponsors of his Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207.

This legislation calls for a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve by the Government Accountability Office, reported to Congress by the end of 2010.

"Now more than ever, we need to know what the Fed has been doing in secret. I am pleased that all of my Republican colleagues in the House, as well as many Democrats, understand the need for this kind of transparency," stated Congressman Paul.

HR 1207 has a total of 271 cosponsors and has been referred to the House Financial Services Committee.

Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make this happen!  Now it's time to keep up the pressure on the rest of the House Democrats and our senators!  Click here to visit our Audit the Fed action page.

Maybe we should not emphasize Republican or Democrat so much as the number of representitives, just to avoid any partisanship in the months to follow?

A very good point, but it's ok to do when you get every member of a party in a chamber to cosponsor. :-)

I never thought there would be 271 co-sponsors of a legitmate bill in Congress. It's great to see a little progress in Congress again with Representation, though there is a long way to go!

Wow. It's so awesome to see these milestones get passed. Almost at 2/3 the house too.

I wonder if Bernanke's sloshing around in sweaty sock yet.

The unConstitutional coup has control of the power seats and will make sure that the bill is blocked.

Congress members do not have the fortitude to fight against the institutionalized control.

Those members of Congress who are the key players (the pawns of the unConstitutional coup) need to hear loud and clear that they are responsible to the people alone. Unless they fear losing their seat they will not give up the bells and whistles promised to them by the unConstitutional coup.

Tomorrow is a very important day for the Committee for Financial Services. Go to their website to see live footage, just in case the Sotomayor hearing is taking up C-Span. The first hearing is at 10am I think. This is the most likely time that HR 1207 will be brought up.
My latest blog has the times, committee make-up, etc.
Please check it and get the word out.

Republicans are rallying around fiscal conservatism now, but like during the Bush years they will probably drop the act once they are in power again.

The GOP Congressmen need to talk to their counterparts in the Senate. Get all the GOP Senators onboard, and we will be cooking.

Oh my goodness!!! Can it be that my Representative, Jo Ann Emerson of Missouri's 8th District, signed on as a cosponsor today? Finally? She must have been one of the last Republicans to do so.

I have emailed, phoned, and written (and kept her replies)...my previously crummy day just got significantly brighter!

God bless and keep Dr. Paul, the Champion of the Constitution!

Is this accurate? I am represented by Mark Kirt who is a republican and I can't find anything saying that he has co-sponsored the bill yet.

No they are only cosponsoring because it costs them nothing to support it, and it would cost them valuable votes if they didn't. Most Republicans who cosponsored, and especially the democrats who cosponsored. Realized the bill is about as damaging to the fed as throwing a sandwich at Bernanke.

Wow! McCain and Feingold have signed on as co-sponsors of S 604. Could always use a little more sunlight/sunshine, huh?
Now 14% of the senate is on board (and 62% of the house).

Hey Celticreeler- I am as surprised as you at Ms Emerson's suddenly jumping on the band wagon. I too have mailed her multiple missives. I can only guess that these Congress people have been assured that this bill will NOT make it to law and have been given the permission to crow for votes. She is on the House Committee as well I believe- let's see how she behaves there.
Remember how powerful the FED is- they have elected all the presidents since Reagan's 1st term. They command almost every department in the executive branch. They have also bred, polished, schooled, and created their best boy yet- Obama. He will most assuredly veto it.

Anyone remember reading about the economics of monopolies? A "monopoly" in a free market does not last long because its members find that monopolistic prices encourage competition which eventually cut their profits and so they either break off or crumble together. That is why a monopoly on force itself is deeply important, in order to keep another monopoly in existence despite free-market principles.

But how does one keep a monopoly on force in a world where everyone wields force? It will not last long, and I sincerely feel that the cabal that is Congress and the Fed is facing the same problem as any free-market monopoly would face; they don't trust each other to keep their word and are finding their efforts to be diminishing the trust of the public. There is no honor amongst thieves.

There is every reason, from the eyes of a Congress member, for the Fed to siphon the country's wealth and leave us high and dry given its advantages in secrecy and money control. And let's face it; Congress has far less power than the Fed itself. It does make sense that HR1207 would be backed by even the foulest representatives (who want a piece of the pie in the printing operation). The question for us now is whether the biggest bully, the Fed, is successful in keeping the smaller bullies in place.

Personally, I know that things will still remain largely corrupt should the Fed even be disbanded; having Congress in charge of the money supply does not necessarily mean that it will abide by the Constitution or respect our natural rights. HR1207 was not guaranteed to kill monetary-corruption after all. But at least it brings a lot more public attention to a subject that has been neglected for about a hundred years.

If you call Senator Lugar's Indy office 317-226-5555 you will likely get a guy who answers the phone and is very rude. He will sigh when you mention the fed, tell you S. 604 is "dead in the water" and claim no politicians with any credibility support the bill (I loved calling him and telling him McCain signed on as a co sponsor).

Anyways, He's getting sick of our calls...I say FLOOD their office even more. TELL THEM EVERY REPUBLICAN IN CONGRESS IS CO SPONSORING THE IDENTICAL BILL and the REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IS CO SPONSORING THE SENATE BILL AND LUGAR SHOULD TOO.

If you are outside of Indiana, say you go to Ball State University (Muncie, IN 47306) and you address is ________ Noyer, Lafollette, or Dehority complex. Pick a # to fill in the blank. Call today, he was in the office as of 1:10 p.m. and answers the phone every time I call!

Chuckmc,

I wrote her an email today pleading her not to support the federal health care ("hell if I care") takeover. (What an affront--a 1,000+ page bill "marked up" until 0130 in the morning. The arrogance of these charlatans knows no limit.)

At the end I said while I appreciated her cosigning, I felt sure the bill would be gutted by parliamentary sleight-of-hand. (I didn't just fall off the turnip truck. If she thinks I assume anything but the absolute worst, she is sadly mistaken.)

I emailed the Senators too, for what good it will do. They are pretty much like Pharoah, and their hearts are hardened. They all need to go out and get a real job.
