Harford Tea Party a Resounding Success!
Citizens of Harford County held a highly successful Tea Party yet again yesterday, with 500 to 600 participating at the rally in the town of Bel Air. Many in the crowd have long attended many July 4th activities, but this was the first time they had ever truly celebrated Independence Day. The day was taken back, removed from the clutches of the tire and mattress salesmen, instead devoted to honor the fortitude, courage, and vision of the Founding Fathers. Those in attendance heard and cheered speeches on our Founding Fathers, the Constitution, liberty, smaller government, and less taxes. Our local Campaign for Liberty chapter was once again a co-sponsor along with our many coalition partners, Americans for Prosperity, the Institute for the Constitution, the Route 40 Republican Club, and Harford County Property Tax Revolt. During the three hour rally scores of citizens took it upon themselves to take their handmade signs to the sidewalks and street corners, displaying them to thousands of passing motorists. Bel Air reverberated with the sounds of horns, honking in approval. The Campaign for Liberty speaker delivered in their address Dr. Ron Paul's speech of September 23rd, 2004, given on the floor of the House of Representatives, about the perils our Constitution now face. This speech, which is contained in the Pocket Constitutions that we sell, was enthusiastically received by the assembled crowd. Dr. Paul's words written five years ago are somehow even more relevant today. Our local Chapter team did a fantastic job of working our literature table and the crowd, handing out hundreds of brochures and slim-jims. We collected hundreds of signatures on our health care petitions. Our chapters focus, and that of our coalition partners, now shifts to packing the County Council meeting of July 14th with local citizens. On that night the Council votes on a maximum property tax rate increase cap. This follows on our recent victory of getting the county budget, and tax rate reduced.
