Paul S. Brighton, MI | The hard work on HR 1207 has just begun. The Federal Reserve is hiring its own lobbyists. (with our money?) Those that have cosponsored the bill will need to know that the arm twisting may get fierce. We need to continue to encurage and press the co-sponsors.
While encouraging our Congressman we can push for Dr. Paul as Speaker of the House. He is the right man to bring real debate on this and many other critical issues to the floor of the House. Supporting Dr. Paul as Speaker would revolutionize Congress for the better. That makes you, Mr. Representitive, look like a man of action willing to take risks in order to better serve your constituents.
As HR07 has support on both sides of the aisle, and the disgraceful job being done by the current Speaker with bills voted for without being available for study or debate demands a change or personnell. The iron is hot.

Elysiumboy Billericay, United Kingdom | Brilliant news! I can feel the ties loosening and the top buttons coming undone! This is my first real adventure with you guys and it's been a thrill watching the progress of this HR1207. I hope you get the clarity you deserve and I say that as a big fan of JFK. I'm still gutted they didn't bring the guilty to justice.
I've heard rumour that the conservative leader David Cameron (believed to be the next P.M) was preparing a speech about downsizing British Parliament. I pray for the day when I hear those words, but I don't trust them so I don't know how to take the news. |

TimWhite Cheshire, CT | YEE-HAA!!! We may be starting to get somewhere!!!
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said it had a subpoena served on the Federal Reserve to compel it to turn over documents related to Bank of America Corp.’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch & Co.
The information was sent today in an e-mailed statement to Bloomberg.

DanSteely rochester, NY | Wow that is great news. I was very disappointed to find out that Chris Lee from western ny was not a new co-sponsor especially since he is on the committee. Well I called all of his offices and spoke with a member of his staff that told me they were very aware of the bill due to a great number of calls on it's behalf and also because of Dr. Paul's legislative staff bringing it to their attn. The staffer said that he doesn't know how Lee feels about the bill but suggested that maybe he just hasn't read it yet so I am holding out hope that he may yet decide to support it.
Anyway it was great to hear that they have been getting a lot of calls on it's behalf both locally and nationally and that I am not the only "nut" bothering them with this.
The staffer I spoke with was actually very nice and not in a patronizing way at all. It probably helped that I was very nice and respectful to him and that I also expressed interest in some things that they were working on. |

smashysmashy dover, NH | HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!!!!!! Carol Shea-Porter is a cosponsor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh wow what a day!!! I hope my countless faxes, emails and calls helped. It is funny, I have slacked for the past few weeks on bugging her about 1207 because the responses have been so discouraging. So I would like to thank all of my pals here in NH who kept up the hard work in the past few weeks!
I am certainly popping the cork on one of the few fine wines I have been saving in celebration.. But Paul S. is right, the hard work has just begun. |

TimWhite Cheshire, CT | I dunno how subpoenas work, but here's the committee's membership:
http://oversight.house.gov/about/members.asp
My Congressman, Chris Murphy, is on there. And he's been actively ignoring my requests for support of HR 1207.
Is Rep. Towns signed onto HR 1207? Anyone know if, as Chair, he can unilaterally issue a subpoena? |
Posted 06/09/09 3:14 PM
TimWhite Cheshire, CT | Or is a subpoena done by committee vote? |
Posted 06/09/09 3:16 PM
TimWhite Cheshire, CT | Among the 200, are there any Committee Chairs? Waxman was reportedly a cosponsor (according to OpenCongress), but I never saw his name on the list.
The Committee Chairs drive everything. |

matthewpaul Raynham, MA | Nagelbett, I hear ya. I haven't received a response from Barney Frank, and he's the Chairman of the Financial Services Committee. |

ReformedApologian Las Vegas, NV | TimWhite, Rep. Waxman (along with two others, I think) was initially added to the list by mistake, and then removed. The official list is on thomas.loc.gov |

TimWhite Cheshire, CT | Ref... thanks... but I'm not about to tackle Thomas. I find it to be too fulfilling of my expectations of the federal government. |

Good grief, I hate this states representation! |

fcreature East Greenbush, NY | Its about time I see Tonko on this list. I've been calling and mailing him non stop. I didn't think this would happen. Good job! |

TimWhite Cheshire, CT | I'm working on Dodd... he's politically vulnerable and the key to S 604.
If we Nutmeggers can get Dodd to stop opposing transparency and good government, Bernie's bill has a real chance. |

Ike Hall Clarkston, GA | Hank Johnson (D, GA-04) cosponsored! Awesome, great work, everyone! |

bachristian Eau Claire, WI | I need some help in WI. Congressman Ron Kind has given me the same response twice. I have emailed twice, not the same email but the congressmen only seems to have one response to my two emails.
Dear David:
Thank you for contacting me about the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, H.R. 1207. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.
The Federal Reserve System serves as the central bank of the United States. The Federal Reserve itself is an independent agency that formulates the nation's monetary policy, supervises and regulates banks, and provides financial services to depository instituations and the federal government. The entity is comprised of the presidentially appointed Board of Governors, the Federal Open Market Committee, and twelve regional privately-owned Federal Reserve banks located in major cities throughout the nation.
The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, H.R. 1207, would audit the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Reserve banks. Although I have consistently supported greater transparency in government, I also believe that the Federal Reserve plays a key role as a non-partisan agency, and it should be protected from excessive political and industry pressures. Now more than ever, we must support the Federal Reserve's mission and the current measures being taken to help our ailing economy. H.R. 1207 has been sent to the House Financial Services Committee for review. If it comes before the full House for a vote, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind.
Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with additional comments or concerns. I also encourage you to visit my website, www.kind.house.gov, where you can find updated information, sign up to receive my electronic newsletter, and send me e-mail.
Sincerely,
Ron Kind
Member of Congress
What action should I take and who can help get this congressman to use his head. Please help.
