Peter Schiff, keynote speaker at the LP of CT Convention, tells the audience that it is a waste of resources running as a minor party. "We haven't won anything in 40 years" and "we don't have another 40 years to try." Instead, he recommends joining the Republican party while it is in shambles in order to expand the influence of the libertarian wing.
It was an honor to be there in person and meet Peter. I was manning the ustream console and "working" the whole convention, chatting with people in the ustream chat (if you were one of the people asking questions, sorry most of them didn't get answered, Peter gives long answers and we ran out of time).
I'm going to be putting the whole thing on youtube, but someone seems to have gotten to it first! ;)
It's funny - afterwards, Peter came over, I shook his hand and he asked how many people saw the live feed. We told him around 60-70 at any one time, and about 400 total. He said "That's it? You guys must have not advertised this well!". Of course, he forgot about youtube ;) It's tough to get people to watch this stuff live on a Saturday night, but it'll get thousands of views on there.
I think that Peter gave some good advice. As long as the two party system exists, the only change comes from the inside. Vote for the candidate, not the Party....but this might be a way to shake things up!
Pete, no hi-res version exists... The camera guys didn't tape it, so we only have the recorded ustream feed to go with. (a shame because they were using network quality cameras - one of the LPCT members works for an affiliate as a cameraman).
Agreed, Andrew, about the Sat. evening viewership, but, how well was the event advertised around CT? I never saw it mentioned anywhere locally. Good thing we have YouTube.
What a natural this guy is...it was very cool to meet him, nice guy. He signed my copy of Bull Moves in a Bear Market and my Schiff for Senate t-shirt too!
As it looks more and more like Schiff may run, this video is important to watch. Not only do we need him to run for US Senate, but we need Libertarians running for state offices as well. The only way to really get our ideas advanced is through the GOP.
"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
—Thomas Jefferson
