H.R. 1207 Smoking Hot!

[Newer: Dr. Paul and General Petraeus on Pirates] [Older: Dr. Paul at Wake Forest]

I have some tremendous news to report: as of 3:00 pm ET today, H.R. 1207 has 88 cosponsors! That is 33 new cosponsors this week!!

And, there are even more to come.

I have been up on Capitol Hill all week meeting with congressional staff, and the reception has been unbelievable.  In additional to those who got on today, I have received several additional commitments from members to cosponsor the bill in the coming days.  And, I have five more appointments tomorrow.  Between our Hill lobbying, the work of Dr. Paul’s congressional staff and the work of all of the tremendous grassroots activists in our movement, we are making progress unthinkable a few years ago.

We can win. We can pass H.R. 1207 this year, and finally audit the Federal Reserve.  We still have a long way to go, and a lot of hard work to do, but if we stick together and work hard, we can do it.

I am so proud to be a part of this effort. Please keep it up, and thanks for all you do.

Congressman Thompson (Glen Thompson PA 5th),

I write to you to urge you to co-sponsor HR 1207. Ron Paul introduced 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, in an effort to shed some light on an organization more secretive than the CIA, the Federal Reserve. To date HR 1207 has 88 co-sponsors with 33 signing on this week alone. I do not have the latest list so if you have signed on already, thanks! If not, what are you waiting for!? As a politician you are no doubt interested in issues on which both sides of the aisle agree. One such issue is government transparency. Do we know to which banks our trillions of dollars have gone? No! But we can and we should. All it takes is an audit of the Fed. This seems like a political no-brainer, not mention sound policy! I anxiously anticipate your co-sponsorship. Thank you for your time.

this is incredible. It seems to me that we have no where to go but up from here. Even if this bill is watered down or rejected, it shows a sea change in opinion. It seems like only yesterday, the Fed was seen as the High Priests of Capitalism. Now, again, Ron Paul teaches the world that the emperor has no cloths.

Please Check out the Strong message of the Pennsylvania Oath of Office project to restore the Council of Censors ...WE MUST HAVE THIS IN ALL STATES SO THAT ONLY THEN WE CAN WIN THEM OVER TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS AS THEY MUST OBEY THEIR OATH OF OFFICE only then HR 1207 or any other proposals from the past till today by Dr. Paul will slowly be in effect! Anything to accomplish for example 2nd amendment ect. we can only win; if they ALL will learn that they MUST OBEY their OATH of OFFICE after they swore, to do so, and get them accountable and put them in the Jail if they do not do it. sincerely melioped at you tube:)

The following is the body of the email I sent my congressman, feel free to use it as a template:

Mr Lynch, 4-22-09

I am taking the time to write this email to you in the hopes that you will take the time to read it. As my representative in congress I need to express the importance of your support for HR 1207. The Federal Reserve has been operating behind a black curtain of impunity and secrecy since its creation. They are not elected officials, they have no oversight committee, their budget is not made public information, and they are not accountable for their actions. The monetary policies they enact affect all of us in terms of the fate of the U.S. dollar; which I strongly believe will crash soon.

The following is a list of the current members of congress who are supporting this resolution - it would make me very proud to see your name added to this list.

April 27th: Audit the Fed! Melt the Switchboard Day

On Monday, April 27th we will follow up our nationwide End the Fed! rallies with an "Audit the Fed! Melt the Switchboard Day".

We must all call in on that day and get EVERYONE we know to also call in to our Congressional Representatives.

The Congressional Switchboard number is:
1-877-851-6437.

Let's focus particularly on the members of the House Financial Services Committee.

Let's also call to PRAISE and APPLAUD those Representatives who have Co-Sponsored the HR 1207.

Ron Paul's bill to Audit the Federal Reserve Bank, HR 1207, has now garnered 55 co-sponsors and has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. This is a major development. The bill will now be debated and voted upon in the Committee and will then either go to the House for a debate and vote or will be defeated.

MOST BILLS DIE IN COMMITTEE FOR LACK OF SUPPORT. There is no way to know how long it will stay in Committee. That means it's all up to YOU.

It's a major step forward for our movement to get the House to even consider a bill which questions the autonomous authority of the Fed. We MUST make the most of this opportunity!

We need to step up and give the situation all our attention NOW. This is our chance to shine!

Great job guys!!!

This is the letter I sent to all the members of the House Financial Services Committee:

Dear Congressman,

I urge you to immediately research HR-1207 - Audit the Fed, sponsored by Ron Paul and co-sponsored by 55 other statesmen. Passing this bill would be the first step to restoring financial liberty to the United States.

Thomas Jefferson said in 1809: "If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation then by deflation, the banks and the corporations will grow up around them, will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Andrew Jackson said in 1829: "Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out. If Congress has the right to issue paper money, it was given them to be used by themselves, and not to be delegated to individuals or corporations."

Abraham Lincoln once also said: "I have two great enemies, the southern army in front of me and the financial institutions, in the rear. Of the two, the one in the rear is the greatest enemy. I see in the future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of the war."

Today, we all feel this same anxiety Abraham Lincoln felt in his days. We are at a junction in the history of this great Nation where we must take the stand for liberty. We cannot have our children to wake up homeless on the continent our fathers conquered.

It is not without reason Thomas Jefferson stated, "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies."

I hope you side with these patriots, and firmly stand up for the United States of America.

Sincerely,

AndreG, with all due respect, I think if we want to take a stance liberty, despite how good of a comment Lincoln may have made, quoting Mr. Lincoln is probably a bad idea. Lincoln suceeded in essentially destroying State Sovereignty and he suspended the Constitution and suspended Haebus Corpus during the war and for many years after.

For exmaple, Jefferson Davis was in jail from 1865 to 1871 without ever going to trial. Why? He broke no law.

Poignant quotes (even from calamitous Presidents) should always be welcome.
Even Thomas Jefferson himself did some disagreeable things as President.

I completely agree, however, Lincoln was not usually sincere in what is usally quoted by him. Thomas Jefferson did a few things as President, but such as the Embargo of 1807, was doing in what he thought (poorly at that), in defense of the American people.

If we are here to defend liberty, I do not want to stand with a man who shut down newspapers, suspended haebus corpus, and waged an illegal war on secession. I can understand how beneficial they may be, considering how popular Abraham Lincoln is, but we must exhibit truthfulness and honesty, and Abraham Lincoln is not one I would like to stand by.

We can say Jefferson did some disagreeable things, but as with every President (except maybe William Henry Harrison!). they all did some questionable and disagreeable things!

You're right in that he might not be exactly honest, but the quote has some truth to it.
The same goes with Wilson's quote "I have 'unwittingly' ruined my country..." but I digress...

Most Americans, being products of a biased pro-Lincoln education would take a Lincoln quote to heart.
I just think we should plant the seeds of liberty in the minds of those who we wish to influence before we start bashing Lincoln (which we should definitely do :D)

Congressman Fred Upton,

I have emailed you a couple times and have called your Washington office twice. The last time I called I spoke with an assistant of yours, unfortunately I can’t remember his name but, he read H.R 1207 while I was on the phone with him. He said he would pass the bill along for you to read. It only took 4 minutes for me to read H.R 1207.

I just seen a new update on the bill and it is now up to 88 cosponsors, but I am disappointed to see you're name is still not on the list.

As a fellow American, I urge you to support a bill that would make the unconstitutional 4th branch of government transparent! We deserve to know what goes on behind the closed doors of the Federal Reserve.

Please, cosponsor this bill! Please let me know if you agree or disagree with this bill, if you agree don’t wait for it to come out of committee for a vote, cosponsor the bill and let the people know you support government accountability and transparency.

Please post/forward EVERYWHERE!

We the People are well on our way to holding the federal reserve bank (INC.) to accountability. Since the inception and incorporation (in Delaware) of the private federal reserve bank (act), this has never been done before.

Please keep up the pressure by requesting that your representatives cosponsor and support the bills below.

Also, contact the committees listed below and request that they hold hearings on each of the bills. This is just as important as getting your representative to cosponsor the bills. We the People don't want these bills to die in committee and not come to the floor for a vote.

My thought is that there are a few parallel things happening.

1. The left has decided the Fed should be nationalized so OBAMA can print the money at will and will try to put it under the executive, once the Fed is shown to be a problem post audit. Last I saw the Senate version of the bill limited the audit to only what was done March 2008 and post then - not at all in a Dem administration. We know the Fed is an issue and has been since 1913.

2. Some see killing the Fed as a way to strengthen the new IMF committee international regulations.

So I am very glad we are getting support, but I think there are a few movements wanting to derail this to their benefit, and not as much ours.

When we call Senators, so long as that 2008 start of the audit period is there, we should remove it. They will say 'the rest is ancient history', but we are not just talking about the extraordinary actions taken this last year, but the problem with the existence of the institution itself.

Otherwise that limit will probably survive in the conference report, and the Dems will just be able to say 'look what Bush's Fed did!' and ignore the historic problem, IMHO, in any event.

Great work Jesse. Keep it up!

Has anyone tried to organize an effort to get Barney Frank on board with this effort? After all, he did co-sponsor another Fed Audit bill in the early '90s, HR 28, for the 103rd Congress.

Federal Reserve related bills from 1993, 103rd Congress:

S. 212--A bill to modernize the Federal Reserve System and to provide for prompt disclosure of certain decisions of the Federal Open Market Committee; to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
-Rep. Dorgan

H.R. 2917--A bill to reform the Federal Reserve System; to the Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs.
-Rep. Blackwell

H.R. 145--A bill to authorize and direct the General Accounting Office to audit the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Advisory Council, the Federal Open Market Committee, and Federal Reserve banks and their branches; to the Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs.
-Rep. Crane

H.R. 587--A bill to modernize the Federal Reserve System and to provide for prompt disclosure of certain decisions of the Federal Open Market Committee; jointly, to the Committees on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs; Government Operations.
-Rep. Hamilton

H.R. 28--A bill to promote accountability, diversity, and the public interest in the operation of the Federal Reserve System, and for other purposes; to the Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs.
-Rep. Gonzalez

WONDERFUL NEWS FROM OH CD-14

I have visited my Congressman's office, passed out hundreds of Audit the Fed flyers, and have educated everyone I come in contact with about this bill. After much work by many, here is the news from the legislative assistant to Mr. LaTourette -

Representative LaTourette,

I would like you to reconsider cosponsoring HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, which will allow the United States to audit the Federal Reserve Bank for the first time in our nation's history.

In the face of an ever-worsening recession, the Federal Reserve is refusing to furnish Congress and the American people with records of how the Bank is allotting and spending trillions of bailout dollars. Shrouded in secrecy, the Federal Reserve is a danger to our political
process: No one knows where our money is going or what it is doing, and Chairman Bernanke has said that efforts to disclose such information are "counterproductive."

Mr. CJ Lennon, your Legislative Aide, informed me that you would only consider this bill if it reaches the floor. May I urge you to reconsider and co-sponsor this along with the 91 other Congressman that have done so.

This bill is vital to solving our financial crisis. Thank you for your help, and I ask you to do everything in your power to see this bill through to a passing vote on the House floor.

In liberty,

Tim Gandee

I'm curious to see at what point there will be public opposition to this. I've noticed people tend to ignore us until we gain mass, then they discredit us in devious ways... It seems the message of liberty is growing though :)

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but... after we get the Fed audited, Helicopter Ben's term expires in Jan 2010.

How bout we try to get Dr. Paul appointed as the next Fed Chairman? He could probably do all sorts of great work from inside The Beast.

Congressman Ryan of WI has been requested to support HR 1207 on multiple occassions. He has yet to do so. The latest request is appended below. This was after our all too short conversation at a public listening session. His Aide said we were out of time and had to get moving to the next one. Thanks for the hour Congressman.

Congressman Ryan:

At the Pleasant Prairie Listening session you stated that "most in Washington want a Democratic Socialism similar to that in Europe". I really wish we had had a few more minutes so I could have opened up debate on that issue. My position is that if Washington wants a Fascist Totalitarianism or would like to finally test out Marx's theories on an advanced economy they have every right to pursue that objective. The process is that you write up an Amendment to that pain in the derriere Constitution stating that we in Washington wish to change your (those serfs commonly depicted as the People) form of government. At that point it gets submitted to those of us out here in fly over country and we will let you know where we stand. Until you follow proper procedure, please tell these idiots you rub elbows with they can kiss my ass.

That said, I see that you are not one of the Representatives supporting HR 1207. Why don't you get on board and demand Heir Barney get that little piece of legislation out of committee and on the floor. Soon thereafter send me some pictures from Fort Knox.

It is time to take this country back and I hope I can count on you. I seriously have my doubts.
