Alabama Sticks to its Guns at Tea Party

The following blog comment (from a source I personally know) illustrates that the Birmingham/Shelby County Tea Party stuck to their activist guns:
The highlight of the event in Birmingham was Beth Chapman, our Secretary of State.
Unbeknowst to most people, she showed up unannounced at the back of the stage and demanded to speak. Apparently she wasn't there when I announced that no elected officials would be speaking and that at this rally politicians would listen to we the people.
As a matter of fact, she wasn't there when the Rainy Day Patriots (25 in number) stood on 280 in the middle of a tornado warning with their protest signs. She wasn't there during our organizational meetings. She wasn't there during setup of the event. And she certainly wasn't there during cleanup.
Needless to say, she wasn't a very happy camper when she was told "NO". I guess politicians are not used to being told no because she lingered for another 30 minutes quibling for a speaking spot.
It is a great day in Alabama when a group of citizens can grow their numbers from 25 to 7000 in a couple of weeks and tell our politicians "NO!"
Chapman is Alabama's Republican Secretary of State.

To put it in context, in the opening remarks I made it a point to mention that the party was for the people to speak and the politicians to listen - I was not going to lose all credibility by letting her get up there. I had the support of my co-organizers - we made the decision together.

Goodwater, AL | Nice article. And GOOD FOR YOU. I wish I could have been there. Please let me know when next Tea Party will be in Birmingham or Montgomery. Is Cullman the only one in Alabama on 7/4 ?
I had pneumonia for the first one and couldn't attend but would sure like to attend one on the fourth. |

It is time that Politicians of Both Parties remember that They Are Supposed To Represent, We The People, and not The Interests of Special Interests, Lobbyists, and Deadbeats who Look To government To Pay Their Way Through Life, instead of making this a place where individuals have the Opportunity and Skills to Take Care of Themselves. "Whenever the government creates an Agency or Department to deal with a "perceived social problem", the "perceived" problem is guaranteed to grow worse and the numbers of "new vicitms" will grow exponentially as the Size, Expenditures, and Power of the New Agency or Department grows into Empire Status.
Lyndon B. Johnson's so-called "Great Society" programs were to be the Ultimate War on Poverty. Lyndon B. Johnson's Federal Intervention in Public Education system was to make schools fair and level the playing field in public education.
To date, the War On Poverty has squandered tens of trillions of dollars, and in the process has expanded Welfare Programs to the Preferred Way of Life for 40 percent of the population. Instead of ending poverty, the "Great Society" prgrams created tens of millions of Victims who have An Entitlement and Demanding Mentality that has replaced Family Values, Gratitude, Self Respect, and Work Ethics. The Great Society Programs mushroomed into a Huge Federal and State Bureaucracy that have become Their own Self-Serving Empires, and in order to grow in size, budgets, and power, they are forever Finding New Classes of Perceived Victims to serve.
This happened with Welfare Programs, and the exact same thing has occurred in Public Education. The U.S. Department of Education was created by Jimmy Carter, as a Gift to the National Teacher Unions who endorsed and pushed his election in 1976. LBJ started the reckless and disastrous federal intervention into public education, which for over 200 years has been entrusted as local and state authorities, and immediately, educational outcomes began to decline. In 1966, we had one of the top 3 public education systems in the world. Today, after over 40 years of Federal Government Intervention into Public Education, we are now #28 in the world, trailing many Banana Republic Third Rate, Third World countries. The Government has guaranteed and mandated the Dumbing Down and Brainwshing of our Citizenry.
Was this an example of Good Intentions gone awry? Or, was it a Plan of the Socialists In Government? It really does not matter whether it was with intent or just another example of Good Intentions Gone Awry, the results are the same. We have a public education system that teaches Political Correctness and other nonsense as opposed to Teaching Academics, Civic Duty, Work Ethics, and beliefs of the Local Communities where our children live, work and play. Schools, traditionally, taught good academic skills known as the 3-R's and in addition instilled 2 more R's, (Respect for Self, Respect for Others, Respect for Resources) and Responsibility for one's self who does not blame others for their failures and shortcomings.
If we are ever to take this country back, we must take our children back from the Dumbing Down and Brainwashing Centers called Public Schools. We have to Abolish the U.S. Department of Education that has engineered the Fiasco we now face in public education. The more the U.S. Department comes up with Remedies to Fix the Problems that they, themselves created, the worse things will become.
We pay taxes to pay for schools and public education. There is plenty of money to run good schools. The problem is that too much of the money is spent on things and people that are Counter-Productive to the educational outcomes, and in fact, Do More Harm than Good.
We have too much bureaucracy, too many bureaucrats and not enough teachers who have been properly trained to teach the academic subjects that they are supposedly teaching.
During the last 40 years of Dumbing Down and Brainwashing being engineered by Bureaucrats, we have graaduated many students who are functionally illiterate and ignorant, and worse, have been brainwashed with beliefs of Polictical Correctness and other Social and Moral nonsense that goes completely contrary to the local communities beliefs, customs, traditions, and values and also against what were traditionally American values. And, many of these dumbed down students went on to become teachers who lack the prequisite skills that they are supposed to be teaching. Math is a good example of this. We now have elementary school teachers who are unable to teach basic arithmetic skills because they too, lack the skills themselves.
You must ask yourself? How in the world did a student get through first Elementary School, then Middle School, then High School, and Then College and Then Receive a Teacher Certification without having ever learned Basic Arithmetic? Does this sound bizarre? Yes, it does, but it is happening as we speak and write. Many school districts are having to send their elementary school teachers back to school to learn Basic Arithmetic so that maybe they will be able to teach it. We also have many teachers who have no command of the English Language, and lack in Reading and Comprehension skills, and yet, they are charged with teaching students.
We must stop this trend in education, or we will continue our downward spiral as a free people in a free nation. Ignorance and Illiteracy in the United States is rampant, and growing worse year by year, and the more the government intervenes and spends on the "perceived problem" the worse things get.
The public Education System has gone the same Way as the Welfare System. Today, we have 40 per cent of the population receiving welfare payments in one form or another, and we have a population where over 60 percent of the population is functionally illiterate and lack in Basic Skills and cannot balance a checkbook or even read a contract or simple directions in how to cook a meal.
Creating Victims who Are Dependent On Government is the Socialistic/Communist aim and scheme.
Better wake up Americans, and realize that the problems we now face as a Nation were Created by the Very Government we now look to to Fix. And, what is the current Socialist President and Congress proposing? Creating new Government Agencies and Departments to deal with the problems that they, the government, created to begin with and spending more on Doing The Same Things That Do Not Work. This is akin to Calling the Arsonist to Put out Your House Fire. And, in addition to Spending More on Worthless Agencies and Departments, they are also Enlisting Tens of Millions of New Victims to Serve, such as 40 million Illegals who the Socialists want to make citizens who will be a Voting Bloc of New Victims for the Socialist Government To serve.
Better wake up and Stop Socialism at every level of government. Remember this: All politics is Local. Start in your town, city, county and state and Demand Representative and Responsible Government. Education is Supposed To Be A Local Phenomena. Do not wait for the State or Federal Government to take action. If you are a Parent and Have a Child in Public School, You Have a Right and more importantly, a Responsibility, to take good care of your child. Sending your child off to the current system of schools in many areas, is a form of abuse and neglect of your child. Many schools, especially in large metro areas, are places where you send your child each day, and while there, they receive Emotional, Psychological, Spiritual, Intellectual and Physical abuse from other students and from some teachers and administrators. A large majority of the public schools in America are doing much more harm than good. A child who never attends a public school, but has access to things to read will learn to read, and will choose things that he or she likes to read. Many of the kids who go to public schools never learn to read beyond 3rd or 4th grade level even though they graduate from high school, because the teachers cannot teach, and also because the kids are given garbage to read that they have no interest in reading.
Public schools, especially elementary schools, should be located in the neighborhood where the child lives, and the school should be kept small, with small teacher-student ratios. Teaching is basic and teaching basics is essential, especially in the early years of schooling. Also, the schools should reflect community standards and values, and young children should not be exposed to so-called Multi-Culturalism, Political Correctness, and Deviant Life Styles as being Normal and something they should accept. In fact, young children should not be exposed to Sexual Matters. They are little children who are not emotionally, psychologically, or intellectually mature enough to be dealing with such nonsense. They should be learning how to take care of themselves, how to read, write, and do arithmetic and be allowed to play and be children. They should not be treated as Small Adults and expected to behave as an adult or taught Adult Subjects.
If you want to take the country back, you have to first Take Your Child and Your Community Back. If you cannot change Your Local Government and The Directions they are Going, How in the world do you expect to Change DC where Lobbyists and Other Special Interest groups have billions of Dollars To Buy and Gain Support of Your so-called Representatives in DC and the President in DC who has his own Personal Agenda of Being Powerful and Dictatorial.
Change your Local and State Representatives if they are not responsive to you and your needs and if they are not Promoting Self Sufficiency but are Pushing The Mentality that You are A victim and That the Government Should Take Care of You. I do not care if that politician is a Mayor, City Council Member, County Commissioner, School Board Member, State Legislator or Governor. If they are teaching and promoting anything except Personal Responsibility and Fiscal Responsibility, they need to Be Voted Out of Office. If you are waiting for the Federal Government to Become Responsive, you will be Waiting a Long Time, unless you Make Your Local and State Governments Be Responsible and Responsive to acutal government business. Welfare, Health Care, and Other Human Care is not the responsibility of the government. A responsibility of public school is to educated citizens who can take care of themselves. Public Welfare programs have destroyed the work ethics in many, and have taken away the recipients sense of self, and have destroyed their self respect, destroyed their respect for others, have destroyed respect for resources, and have made them instead, Ungrateful, Demanding and who have now created an Entitlement Mentality, and has also Created Many Adolescents with no futures except being criminals and later jail and prison innmates, and also are filling up cemetaries, while funding Dead Beat lawyers who serve as Public Defenders at Tax Payer Expense.
If you love your child, your community, your state and your nation, Take Back Your Kids. Take Back The Schools. Take back the government, and Take Back the Country. God Bless You All.
