Schakowsky: Tea parties 'despicable'

@ 1:23 pm by Eric Zimmermann

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) blasted "tea party" protests yesterday, labeling the activities "despicable" and shameful."

"The 'tea parties' being held today by groups of right-wing activists, and fueled by FOX News Channel, are an effort to mislead the public about the Obama economic plan that cuts taxes for 95 percent of Americans and creates 3.5 million jobs," Schakowsky said in a statement.

"It's despicable that right-wing Republicans would attempt to cheapen a significant, honorable moment of American history with a shameful political stunt," she added. "Not a single American household or business will be taxed at a higher rate this year. Made to look like a grassroots uprising, this is an Obama bashing party promoted by corporate interests, as well as Republican lobbyists and politicians."

This is the strongest language to date opposing the protesters, which, according to some estimates, topped 250,000 across the country.

If you disagree with her, please let Mrs. Schakowsky know how you feel in the most polite and respectful manner possible. I will certainly be doing so myself and, since I am a constituent of the 9th Congressional District of Illinois, inquiring again with Congresswoman Schakowsky's office about her position on H.R. 1207 to audit the Fed.

UPDATE: I called all three of Congresswoman Schakowsky's offices and let them know of my disappointment with her shamefully partisan remarks. I let them know that I attended the protest in Chicago and that her characterization of the events did not reflect the reality of the event in Chicago.

I also inquired again as to the Congresswoman's position on H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. The Washington, D.C. office told me that she probably wouldn't support or co-sponsor the bill but could not say why. They each took my address and told me that they would mail me a response in writing.

What can I say? Congresswoman Schakowsky's opposition to transparency of the Federal Reserve is indeed 'despicable'.

UPDATE II:

Lisa Wogan spoke at the Chicago Tea Party on behalf of the Campaign for Liberty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VXhh8r_e7g). Does she sound like someone that Congresswoman Schakowsky described as bashing Obama's policies "by corporate interests"?

Yuck, I read this. She's completely out of touch, and I hope her constituents have the sense to see that and vote her into the unemployment line.

Let her keep talking! She's ENERGIZING those who will vote her OUT next election. Be yourself, Schakowski! That's the best thing you can do for your opposition.

wow..does she realize believe what she claims? I'm not a Republican; I'm Independent. I found out about the Congressional pension about 6 years ago and have been quite ill about that in itself because we weren't asked whether we wanted our taxes to go to that. Now I know they don't deserve the pension!

I've been ill with the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act of 2006, wiretapping legislation, and all of Obama's socialist agenda. Republican stunt? The only think I can think is that Democrats would love to antagonize in order to prove "rightwing extremists". Do they not even have an inkling as to what they are doing do this country? Do they even care?

Her husband had some legal trouble "for writing rubber checks and failing to collect withholding tax from an employee."

Despicable and Shameful huh? Let's talk about how to create those fliers some time Justin. I think we need to try and make a compelling argument for the residents of the 9th district to urge Congresswoman Schakowsky to co-sponsor the Audit the Fed bill.
