VICTORY in Nashville!

The limited-government, paleoconservative, Constitutionalist, libertarian, Barry Goldwater, Ron Paul* Republicans can celebrate a victory! While the outcome of the Davidson County (Nashville) Republican Party election yesterday was not optimal it was still a success nonetheless.

As the Davidson County Campaign for Liberty coordinator, and Republican Liberty Caucus of TN vice chair, I was unable to win the chair of the Davidson County (Nashville) Republican Party, however I was able to solidly secure the Vice Chair position. I was also responsible for other like-minded individuals who were voted onto the Executive Committee as officers in various positions including 4 others and 4 or 5 more who are sympathetic to our cause. That gives us 5 solid seats on the DCRP Executive Committee with a potential of 10 including those who will often vote alongside us!

This is indeed a victory for those who believe in limited government. As the Vice Chair I am now the conscience of the Davidson County Republican Party and will provide balance. However I want to explain how we arrived at these results.

Sadly some in my opposition's camp employed less than honest tactics against me, which turned out to be effective. Rumors, half-truths, and even outright lies were whispered around the local Party about my character and status. This kind of underhanded behavior doesn't belong in this Party; in fact it's more characteristic of Democrats. An example is that it was told that I'm an officer in the Libertarian Party- this is of course untrue. I am a libertarian, and I am also a member of the Republican Liberty Caucus. The disinformation "FUD campaign" (look it up) capitalized on these facts by preying on delegates who were ignorant of the complete facts; some education is now in order.

Being a libertarian does not make one a member of the Libertarian Party. It's commonly called "Big L" vs "little l". In the mind of the average Republican they have not yet been brought to realize that the philosophy of libertarianism is not the same as the Libertarian Party. That would be akin to saying everyone in the Republican Party is a conservative and as many have recently learned, this is definitely not true. Also the Republican Liberty Caucus is an organization of libertarians (little l) who are dedicated to advancing the cause of limited government by working within the Republican Party. This actually fits nicely because a good deal of the Republican Party tends to be oriented towards limited government a lot of the time on a lot of the issues; it is worth noting that both Barry Goldwater and Ronald Regan were libertarian leaning if not outright libertarians.

My opponent really turned out the vote and I had a few delegates that were unable to appear. Combined with the fact that many of the delegates who were on the fence were being fed disinformation, it caused my opponent to win. The election was fair but the hit campaign against me was not and I did not realize what was happening until later in the week which did not allow enough time for me to communicate the truth to the delegates. I am not vindictive or bitter about it but I have learned there are specific individuals within the Davidson County Republican Party that I can not trust and will not associate with. And honestly I didn't want the job anyway, I was running for the chair out of a sense of duty to fix the country by fixing the Republican Party. I can still work to achieve that goal from the position of Vice Chair and I am actually quite satisfied with the results.

It is now time to move towards these ends by recruiting, fundraising, and supporting conservative limited-government candidates for office. The DCRP has been largely ineffective and this needs to reverse course. But in order to do this our principles of limited-government conservatism must first be upheld. There are many marginal elected officials within our area that need to be voted out. And that is exactly why I decided to quit doing nothing and get involved in local politics. It is not good enough to read, write, complain about politics and then only show up to the voting booth. If one really wants to have an effect within the political system they must get involved within that system to the fullest extent possible; anything less is apathy.

I urge each and every individual who is not happy with the way our government is operating, or who is disapointed with the way the Republican Party has been behaving, to go to their local meetings and run for a position so that the status-quo is not maintained. I have just proven that it is possible to have a significant effect on local politics. I'm a political nobody, I have essentially zero experience other than volunteering for the Ron Paul campaign- I just showed up and put out my best effort. Those of us who want less government have and will continue to exert pressure on all areas of Party and government within Nashville / Davidson County and the State of TN. Progress is being made and the liberty movement is alive and well and advancing in a forward motion at full pace. We are doing our part and if others with similar ideas of freedom, liberty, and limited government show up and do their part around the country, then we will see a paradigm shift in the American political discourse within 2 years. Who knows, it may even lead to a bloodless Revolution

Are you doing your part or will you continue to sit back and do nothing?

*And for the record my efforts, and the efforts of those whom are members of the CFL or RLC, are NOT about Ron Paul -- that election has long since been over with. Our efforts are about advancing many of the ideas that Congressman Paul espoused during the 2007/2008 primary campaign which have in recent months turned out to be absolutely accurate. These ideas include limiting government at all levels, adhering to the Constitution, a humble foreign policy, sound monetary policy, fiscal conservatism, lowering or abolishing taxes, balanced budgets, and securing individual rights; ideas that could've led to a Republican victory in 2008, which this first report and this second report assert.

With that being said I must conclude with the disclaimer that nothing I communicate is to be considered an official statement representative of any organization I belong to, including the Campaign for Liberty, Republican Liberty Caucus, WTN, Liberty on the Rocks, America's Future Foundation, or the Davidson County (Nashville) Republican Party.

If anyone would like to donate a few Federal Reserve Notes to help offset the costs incurred during our successful campaign please do so here.
