[Newer: Constitutional Tender hearing scheduled - please help!] [Older: MegaVote: GA 7th, 3/16/2009]

Dear Friends of Constitutional Tender,

I need your help RIGHT NOW, to take ONE MINUTE of your very valuable time, for a very quick Action Item to advance HB 430, the "Constitutional Tender Act."

Tomorrow - Wednesday - I'm heading down to the State Capitol in Atlanta, to lobby several key legislators on the bill, including: Rep. Calvin Hill, Chairman of the Financial Institutions & Services Subcommittee, and Rep. Mike Coan, Chairman of the Regulations & Oversight Subcommittee.

One week ago, Rep. Bobby Franklin, who sponsored HB 430, asked these two Chairs to schedule subcommittee hearings "for the purpose of obtaining input and suggestions from the banking community on how to best comply with the Constitution's mandate that the State use only gold and silver coin."

http://www.sicm.com/constitutionaltender/BillRequest-HB430.pdf

To date, neither has agreed to do so -- even though both had said they would.

So today, RIGHT NOW, I'm asking you to do just one quick thing: Drop Rep. Hill (chill@gilainc.com) and Rep. Coan (repcoan@charter.net) a quick email.

It doesn't even matter if you live in Georgia. They MUST hear from a LOT of folks, so we can move this bill forward! Again, their contact info is:

* Chairman of the Financial Institutions & Services Subcommittee, Rep. Calvin Hill (R-21) - chill@gilainc.com - 404-656-0129

* Chairman of the Regulations & Oversight Subcommittee, Rep. Mike Coan (R-101) - repcoan@charter.net - 404-656-6801

THANK YOU SO MUCH -- it's because of people like YOU, who are willing to take a minute of your valuable time to do something like this, that we have a GOOD SHOT at getting this bill moved through the General Assembly this year -- and even introduced in other states!

LET'S ROLL!

Food for thought...

Honorable Mike Coan,

I urge you to hold hearings on the Constitutional mandate of gold and silver coin proposed by Rep. Bobby Franklin (HB 430).

We all know that it is not feasible to carry around chunks of metal to pay for things. However, I am not convinced that carrying around worthless paper is the best choice either. There needs to be serious debate on the soundness of money in America today. I am not confident in our dollar at the present time. Since the Federal Reserve had controlled the monetization of the dollar in 1913 it is now worth $0.05 due to inflation. Also, you cannot create silver or gold out of thin air. With the dollar system you can create dollars rather easily or as Mr Bernacke says “with the click of a button.” I am worried that we are in for hyper-inflation in the next few years. That would be devastating for out republic. Hold the hearings for HB 430. All that can happen is government enlightenment of current financial situation.

Done.

Here's mine.

I wanted to take a moment to write you regarding HB 430: The Constitutional Tender Act that is currently making it's way through your legislature.

Article 1, Section 10 of the U.S Constitution states "No state shall... make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debt" But, in fact, EVERY state in the United States of America DOES make some other "Thing" besides gold and silver coin a "Tender in Payment of Debts" -- some "Thing" called "Federal Reserve Notes."

The importance of this Bill can not be understated. It would set a precedent for a desire to restore sound money to the United States and lead a movement for other states to introduce such a bill.

This type of bill is also needed because, due to the ever-widening circle of economic disaster that is affecting the citizens of every State, we MUST do something to at least begin the process of restoring sound money and a sound economy, whether or not the Federal government or any other State government does so. This would immediately begin the flow of real wealth toward the state's treasury. This would stabilize the state's economy, protect the pensions of state employees, etc. -- and offer many other immediately recognizable benefits. Please listen with an open mind to the testimony from experts on what exactly it would mean to carry out this bill.

My brother and his wife live in Macon. I write to you today because I care about their welfare and I want to see sound money begin to be adopted again.

Every state legislator, including you, makes a pledge to uphold the Constitution. Please sir, acknowledge that pledge and support his bill.

Done, Bill. Good luck down at the Dome tomorrow and thank you for keeping us posted.

I copied SilverSeraph's text.

The bill's a no brainer - but, that's our public servants, no brainers.

I'm from CA.

I wrote, explaining WHY it is important and urged them to learn about it and discuss it.

I also mentioned they could be part of the solution to the financial and monetary crisis - and do more to protect the retirees and savers in their state, protecting their constituents' wealth from being sapped by the Feds through inflation.

Here's what I sent:

Dear Representative Hill and Representative Coan, Gentlemen, I am sure you are both aware that the US Constitution in Article I, Section 10, charges the States with the duty to use only gold and silver coin as money. The current practice involving the national central bank (the Federal Reserve) printing paper money is an unconstitutional usurpation of the States' rights and duties.

Sirs, as chairmen of your respective subcommittees, Rep. Bobby Franklin has contacted each of you to schedule hearings to obtain input and suggestions from the banking community on how to best comply with the Constitution's mandate that the State use only gold and silver coin. To my knowledge this hasn't been done. Considering the economic upheaval caused by the unconstitutional Federal Reserve's fiat currency, I believe you should recognize the urgency of this matter and schedule hearings immediately. I respectfully ask that you make this your top priority and schedule these hearings today.

Warmest Regards,James Moore

My response:

Please provide me with a copy of whatever information you have that indicates that I agreed to schedule a subcommittee hearing. If you state that as a fact, I assume that you can remind me of what it is that I stated.

Steve - he didn't put anything in writing. But he told one of our people, Jenny Hodges, that he favored doing so. Here is the link to the official request that he was given from Rep. Franklin: http://www.sicm.com/constitutionaltender/BillRequest-HB430.pdf

We just have to keep asking and asking and asking. Only 8 days left in this session, it needs to be done. Thanks, all.

Bill -

I've had a pretty lengthy back and forth with Rep. Hill. He states that he has every intention of holding hearings, but he doesn't have the proper request directed towards his sub-committee.

It appears the link you give is for a hearing that was held in the end of Feb by the B&B sub-committee. Is there another document which can be sent to Rep. Hill giving him the authority to hold hearings on the bill?

This seems to be his sticking point. He was complaining that all these people are e-mailing him saying he agreed to hold hearings, but he doesn't even have a proper request. "What gives?" was his question. :-/

I told him to contact Rep. Franklin or Rep. Loudermilk's staff. As they are the co-sponsors, perhaps they would have that information.

Hope I helped!

msclvr2, I have a copy of the email that Bobby Franklin sent directly to him, requesting the hearing, with the form attached. He's just forgetting. :-)

Thanks!
