[Newer: Response from my Representative about HR 1207]

Hello Congresswoman Halvorson (ed: D-IL, 11th District),

I am writing to you today to ask that you add your name to H. R. 1207 - Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 that is currently being sponsored by 28 of your fellow Congressmen. I would strongly encourage you to co-sponsor this bill as well, especially since the Federal Reserve is using at least a Trillion dollars of tax payers' money.

With the recent talk of regulation and oversight and how some of the federal agencies are not doing their jobs (example: the SEC and Bernie Maddoff) and how the mortgage lenders/borrowers got into the problems that they did, it only seems logical that the Federal Reserve be held at the same standards as other private firms, if not a higher one.

Please read the bill and then sign your name to it and allow the American Taxpayers and the people in your district see what the Federal Reserve does with all of that money.

Regards,

- Alameda County Republican Party Resolution - Submitted for Approval March 17, 2009 -

- Resolution in support of H.R. 1207 - The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009

- Co-Sponsored by: 17 House Republicans and 4 House Democrats

- Status: H.R. 1207 introduced 2/26/2009; referred to Committee on Financial Services

- Submitted by: David LaTour, Walter Stanley III, Brian Eschen and Andrew Dirks of the Alameda County Republican Party

- Description:

H.R. 1207

A BILL

To amend title 31, United States Code, to reform the manner in which the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is audited by the Comptroller General of the United States and the manner in which such audits are reported.

Whereas, we, as Members of the Alameda County Republican Party applaud transparency and accountability in government and reject government secrecy involving monetary policy that impacts the entire economy; and

Whereas, serious discussions of proposals to oversee and audit the Federal Reserve are long overdue; and

Whereas, the Federal Reserve can enter into agreements with foreign governments and foreign central banks and the United States Congress is prohibited from overseeing these agreements; and

Whereas, we, as Members of the Alameda County Republican Party, believe agreements made by the Federal Reserve with foreign powers and foreign banking institutions should be subject to Congressional oversight; and

Whereas, the United States Constitution, gives the United States Congress the authority to coin Money and regulate the value thereof and does not give Congress the authority to delegate control over monetary policy to a central bank; and

Whereas, auditing the Federal Reserve will allow Congress to assert its constitutional authority over monetary policy and help to protect the value of the United States dollar;

Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Members of the Alameda County Republican Party, in defense of the United States Constitution, STRONGLY URGE the representatives of the 111th United States Congress to support the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------

This Resolution has been approved unanimously by the Alameda County Republican Party Executive Committee 7 to 0. The Resolution will be presented to the County Committee for a final vote on March 17th at the monthly meeting.

I'm in the 11th district too and sent an email to Debbie Halvorson on her official website in regards to H.R. 1207. I sent it last week, but I haven't received a reply. I didn't even get an automatic form letter from her.

I am for this bill, and I know that Dr. Paul knows exactly what he is doing. I am just not sure I know.

As far as the proletariat is concerned (read Joe Sixpack) he has no particular interest in how many Federal Reserve Notes (read monetized debt) are emitted; he is only affected by the time warp where wages lag inflation and reduce his purchasing power. And, he is not paying attention anyway.

And, we can be certain that the FED is distributing newly created FRNs to their associates in an effort to keep the system propped up as that is to their advantage.

So, is Dr. Paul really intent on educating the ignorant members of Congress with a view to ultimately bringing about his goal of sound money?

Someone smarter explain it to me.

HR 833 is for educational reasons at this time. HR 1207 is "win-able" at this time. If auditing the Fed turns up all the misdealings, there would then be a groundswell of support for phasing it out.
It's interesting how "B-52 Ben" has done an interview to soften his image. We're supposed to believe he has our best interests at heart because he's a Main Street son of a store owner? I don't think that makes him more trustworthy than, say, the son of a dairy farmer.

I mailed this letter to my congressman on March 8th, 2009. Feel free to copy any portion for your own use. I copied some with permission from another C4L member.

Representative Chandler:

Please co-sponsor and/or support H.R.1207, an effort to audit the Federal Reserve.

Recently, it has come to light that there is little to no accountability to the people on the part of the Federal Reserve. As citizens, we're required to give an accounting of every penny we come in contact with. The Federal Reserve has never been held to the same standard. During this time of extreme economic crisis, the people deserve an accounting of where our money is going.

Currently, H.R. 1207 is enjoying bi-partisan support. Your efforts in supporting this important legislation would go a long way in proving to your constituents that you not only hold the Federal Reserve to the same standard as you do your constituents, but it would also show that you believe in transparency. Anything less than support for this resolution suggests that you are in favor of secrecy and a lack of accountability to the people who pay the bills. We pay the tab. We have a right to know where our money is going.

Unlike recent bills that you voted for that had hundreds of pages and just a few hours to read, this bill can be read in under 5 minutes. I encourage you to take the time to read it, and then move to support it.

I was wondering if someone could write a letter for all of us to use when contacting the press. Some sort of uniform letter would help us all to save time and become more efficient in writing to our local media. Thanks in advance !

Did you ever receive a reply, Chad? Check out the District 11 blog; there are some others spearheading letter-writing campaigns as well if you want to coordinate.

Sadly, I did not receive a reply from Congresswoman Halvorson. I'm not that shocked by not receiving one.
