I've had some requests for help in talking to friends and family who don't get it. Here are some links to help.

Here's one:
http://w
ww.fr33agents.com/573/dealing-with-friends-and-family-who-dont-get-it/

and
another:
http://www.theadvocates.org/communicating/right-questions.html

and another from the Advocates for Self Government:
http://www.theadvocates.org/communicating/opening-minds.html

and another from there:
http://www.theadvocates.org/communicating/effective-salesman.html

I hope it is some help. Remember, it it is important to be 'on their side'  and to be understanding because if it turns into an argument, even if you win the argument, you lost the war because you did not win a convert.
Go slow and give them time. They'll come around!

What we have since Woodrow Wilson changed the American way is Capitalistic Imperialism.  Free Enterprise, the system that built America into the world industrial power, is missing in action.  Free Enterprise, despite its growing pains, created wealth and spread wealth, created and spread knowledge, spurred progress and entreprenuership, and for the most part established ethic.  Capitalistic Imperialism on the other hand hordes wealth, stifles progress, decapitalises the system, creates a cast system and poverty, and evoles a criminal government and subsequently a growing crime rate rift of investment/business scammers.  These facts are self-evident; just listen to the newsreports.  In order to change this situation we need to change the way we operate.  The first step is the elimination of the Federal Income Tax System which is a theft of labor and stored value and has been the springboard to the transfer of wealth, power, and the control of government to the Super big international financers and the Super Big industrial powers; i.e., big ag, big oil, big pharma, big finance (banking, insurance, Wall Street) all of whom are bleeding us dry.

In orderfor free enterprise to exist and thrive we need to have the family and local business  (including farming) which have disapeared from the face of business in this country.  The Nightline TV program di an investigative report throughout the country to find products made in America -- they could barely find any!!!  Business cannot operate under the onus of the system we have evolved into.  Even the automotive giants have succumbed to the high cost of payroll tax withholding and employer contribution -- they cannot be competetive and cannot change to meet the market demands.

Until the American people understand the underlying cause for our economic chaos and put the pressure on the congress we will continue in this downward spiral.  The average congressman is getting hundreds of thousands yearly from the lobbyists to do their bidding and they are not working for us the citizenry.  So, WAKE UP AMERICA and smell the toxins.  Hopefully there is still time to rightenthe ship of state before it sinks entirely.

Poll: When will you start doing the things that will change in place of just ranting anad rving which will do nothing but play into the hands of those who keep us diverse and distracted??

Share the 'Fair Tax Bill' with your 5000 closest friends

get a basic understanding of the way economics really works
quit jumping on the bandwagon for pipe dreams that are built on false premise
Think about your progeny and what kind of country you want for them
help educate your fellowman and your misguided congress person
bring up some ideas on how to get a grassroots movement on the real issue before us

Continue reading to learn about the racial preferences mandated by the bill.

The Democrats' health care bill creates a very significant financial incentive for medical schools and other entities to lower admission standards for "individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups" if that is what it takes to have the winning "demonstrated record".

On page 879-880, the bill states that the Secretary of Health and Human Services:

"shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate a professional training program in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or geriatrics, to provide financial assistance and traineeships and fellowships to those students, interns, residents or physicians who plan to work in or teach in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or geriatrics."

On page 881-882 the bill states:

"In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds."

On page 883 the bill states:
"The Secretary shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate or participate in an established primary care residency training program, which may include-(A) planning and developing curricula; (B) recruitment and training of residents; and (C) retention of faculty."

On page 884-885 the bill states:

"In awarding grants and contracts . . . the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of training . . . individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds . . . ."

On page 887-889 the bill states that the

"Secretary shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate a professional training program for oral health professionals, to provide financial assistance and traineeships and fellowships to those professionals who plan to work in or teach general, pediatric, or public health dentistry, or dental hygiene, to establish, maintain, or improve academic administrative units (including departments, divisions, or other appropriate units) in the specialties of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry, to operate a loan repayment program for full-time faculty in a program of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry."

On page 889-890 the bill states:

"In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds."

On page 908-909 the bill states: "The Secretary shall award grants and contracts to eligible entities" to do the same things for the field of public health as the Secretary can do for dentistry.

On page 909 the bill states:

"In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds."

I've heard excuses from legislators in the past couple of days about why they voted against Medical Marijuana.  Now, I've never seen the pot issue as one to hold up as a banner.  But it's just not something to criminalize.

Since the "Governor's Opening," that season which commences ten minutes before an incumbent's press conference announcing he is not seeking re-election, I have received the requisite phone calls from the candidates seeking support.  They tend to volunteer that they would have supported medical marijuana -- this is not something I ask them -- but mumble about problems with the bill's wording.  I have not gotten a call from Emmer, but understand he has a similar stand.

So when I read this about Mark Buesgens today, well, you be the judge:

"I'm an outsider," he said. "I have my colleagues ask, 'Why not go to caucuses?' The purpose of the caucuses is to learn about legislation. Well, I read the legislation. The other purpose is to tell me how to vote."

And that's a deal breaker for Buesgens.

He has opposed his caucus - and his governor - on some bills, the medicinal marijuana bill being a big one.

"I was the second author on the marijuana bill,'' he said, explaining that about a year and a half ago, his mother was painfully dying of lung cancer.

"Had she asked me to get her some marijuana, I would have done it," he said.

That's not exactly in keeping with the law-and-order Republican stereotype, which is fine with him.

"I'm more a libertarian than a Republican,'' he said.

I've known Mark for about ten years and always trusted him.  Now I know my instincts were right.

Ron Paul's Statement on H Res 489 Regarding Tiananmen Square, June 3, 2009:

I rise to oppose this unnecessary and counter-productive resolution regarding the 20th anniversary of the incident in China's Tiananmen Square. In addition to my concerns over the content of this legislation, I strongly object to the manner in which it was brought to the floor for a vote. While the resolution was being debated on the House floor, I instructed my staff to obtain a copy so that I could read it before the vote. My staff was told by no less than four relevant bodies within the House of Representatives that the text was not available for review and would not be available for another 24 hours. It is unacceptable for Members of the House of Representatives to be asked to vote on legislation that is not available for them to read!

As to the substance of the resolution, I find it disturbing that the House is going out of its way to meddle in China's domestic politics, which is none of our business, while ignoring the many pressing issues in our own country that definitely are our business.

This resolution "calls on the People's Republic of China to invite full and independent investigations into the Tiananmen Square crackdown, assisted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross..." Where do we get the authority for such a demand? I wonder how the US government would respond if China demanded that the United Nations conduct a full and independent investigation into the treatment of detainees at the US-operated Guantanamo facility?
The resolution "calls on the legal authorities of People's Republic of China to review immediately the cases of those still imprisoned for participating in the 1989 protests for compliance with internationally recognized standards of fairness and due process in judicial proceedings." In light of US government's extraordinary renditions of possibly hundreds of individuals into numerous secret prisons abroad where they are held indefinitely without charge or trial, one wonders what the rest of the world makes of such US demands. It is hard to exercise credible moral authority in the world when our motto toward foreign governments seems to be "do as we say, not as we do."

While we certainly do not condone government suppression of individual rights and liberties wherever they may occur, why are we not investigating these abuses closer to home and within our jurisdiction? It seems the House is not interested in investigating allegations that US government officials and employees approved and practiced torture against detainees. Where is the Congressional investigation of the US-operated "secret prisons" overseas? What about the administration's assertion of the right to detain individuals indefinitely without trial? It may be easier to point out the abuses and shortcomings of governments overseas than to address government abuses here at home, but we have the constitutional obligation to exercise our oversight authority in such matters. I strongly believe that addressing these current issues would be a better use of our time than once again condemning China for an event that took place some 20 years ago.

Heroically, he stands up for non-intervention and against hypocrisy on this resolution that passed 396 to 1.

Each month, the Secretary of State releases openings on various boards and commissions in the state.  Until we have strong representation at the state capital and can eliminate this bureaucratic nonsense (such as the Task Force to make recommendations on forms or the Board to make recommendations for another Board), we can participate on them and bring our principles of limited government to the other members, and the spending and regulations that come out of them.

Look, apply, engage.

http://www.sos.state.mn.us/docs/may_2009_press_release.pdf

This month, it's a long list: 44 openings! These boards and commissions generally oversee and/or control the spending of state money (i.e., OUR money). They are also a good place to gain experience if you are interested in serving in public office in the future.

Please check the list and consider applying if there's an opening that matches your expertise and/or experience.

What an honor to be among patriots.  Today we met with Mike Osskopp District Director for Rep John Kline.  We had preambled the meeting with several contacts to the Minnesota staff:  1.  Early this Saturday an email requesting a meeting on HR1207.  2.  A phone conversation with staff yesterday AM explaining that we would be bringing in petitions and several constituents in support of the bill.  3.  An email this AM to staff listing who likely would join us.  4.  An email at 12PM to Mike Osskopp with details on the bill including current co-sponsors, and that more people may spontaneously show up for our 2PM meeting.  I ended the email to the District Director with, "It would be great to hear from you today that John has signed on to HR 1207".

12 Patriots showed up for our 1:30 PM planning meeting.  We went in to meet with Mike Osskopp at 1:55.  We all crowded into his office.  The first words out of Mike's mouth, "John has signed on as a co-sponsor to HR 1207!"  We had a good rousing discussion about the Bail out vote, the Farm Bill, and following the Constitution (Thank you Michael Nietzel for your courage!).  The meeting ended with the District Director asking us to keep him particularly informed about legislation that we feel strong about since he is with the Congressman every weekend that he is home.  Osskopp can educate the Congressman like no other.

I want to thank Mike Osskopp for his efforts, staffer Brooke Dorobiala for setting up the meeting, Rep Kline's DC staff for quickly reviewing the materials and getting it to the Congressman promply with a yes recommendation.  On our end thank you to everyone in CD2 who signed Petitions and got them to me before the meeting.  Very special thanks to Rep. John Kline for signing on and to the following men who joined in the effort today.

Tom Dippel - HD57A, Trevor Johnson - SD40,  Ayrlahn Johnson - HD40A, Francis Klinkner - SD37, Chuck Devaney - HD35, Mike Overland - CD5 (HR 1207 Coordinator), Michael Neitzel - SD38, Bryan Mork - SD35, Leon Moe - SD57, Jeff Miner - SD 35

(And, I'm sorry I know that I am missing someone)

Who said that Petitions don't mean much?  We had a stack of nearly 60 of them that we left with the Congressional staff.  Having developed a relationship with the Congressional staff doesn't hurt either.  Having done the work we earned the right to effect change.  Kudos to Marianne Stebbins our State Coordinator and to the other MN CD Coordinators for your support.  Thanks to Jesse, Debbie, Deb, and all at C4L HQ.  This is your victory too.

PS:  We focused on 'Hard Republicans' as C4L HQ suggested for our Petitions.  These are people who have fought the battles, got elected to a party position whether State Central Delegate, local BPOU leader, or regular delegate or alternate.  These folks' names mean more to GOP elected officials than just the average person on the street.  As HQ explained 'hard Republicans' have 100 to 1 impact vs any name.

Regards,

Can anyone confirm that Ben Franklin actually said this:

"The Colonies would gladly have borne the little tax on tea and other matters had it not been the poverty caused by the bad influence of the English bankers on the Parliament, which has caused in the Colonies hatred of England and the Revolutionary War."

rosperous/

There are conflicting accounts on the web.....some people claim Frankin never said this.

Thanks and regards,

John S

"The truth is not an obstacle for someone such as me, she said,
Because, you see, we all create our own reality."
"Truth is out of style" - MC900 Foot Jesus, 1989

Like many Americans, I've tried to maintain some new habits since the first of January.  One of my resolutions was to avoid listening to the news.  I know that sounds a rather ignorant choice, but it just makes my blood boil - and that's not healthy.  When I listen to the news, especially to elected officials, I end up shouting back at the television or radio and looking for something to throw.  I remain informed in other ways that are better for my health - and my personal possessions.

So last night was a real test when my husband turned on President Obama's press conference during supper.  The result was predictable - I was mad, early and often.  Usually I'm stirred up by the it-feels-good rhetoric, unsupported premises, and flagrant disregard for the Constitution.  There was plenty of that last night, but something else that just chilled me with its implications: ignoring the truth.

In one example, President Obama responded to the first question about having a crisis that we "would be unable to reverse":
"We saw this happen in Japan in the 1990s, where they did not act boldly and swiftly enough and, as a consequence, they suffered what was called the lost decade, where essentially, for the entire '90s, they did not see any significant economic growth."
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/09/obama.conference.transcript

Really?  Japan spent trillions on infrastructure projects, taking their government spending as a percentage of GDP from about 31% to 34% in only two years (1991-1993).

I keep returning to The Road to Serfdom and it's hard to believe it was written over 50 years ago.  It seems more like an astute commentary of our times, especially with a chapter on "The End of Truth."  How many people listened to that same sentence from President Obama last night and thought, "well, that does it - we can't make the same mistake as Japan!  We need this stimulus plan now!"

It's one thing to interpret facts or present only the ones that support your case, but to change them completely?  President Obama also said, "although there are some politicians who are arguing that we don't need a stimulus, there are very few economists who are making that argument" [emphasis added] AND "most economists almost unanimously recognize that ... government is an important element of introducing some additional demand into the economy." [emphasis added]

It seems he must have missed the full page Cato Institute ad signed by hundreds of economists, included some Nobel laureates.
http://www.cato.org/special/stimulus09/cato_stimulus.pdf

These are only two examples from last night that had me shaking a fireplace poker at the screen.  The Campaign for Liberty already has a tough task to education our fellow citizens about how government and monetary systems really work.  Most people are unaware of the true nature of these systems, and simply need them introduced and explained.  How much harder is it going to be if we first have to expose lies?

Hayek wrote "the most effective way of making everybody serve the single system of ends toward which the social plan is directed is to make everybody believe in those ends."  I would like to convince people to believe in certain ends, too, but I intend to get there with the truth.

Minnesota Liberty Types ("My Friends" ;-),

MN C4L is planning a free market economics conference for the end of January/beginning of February. The goal is to provide a full understanding to us all of why the free market serves the economy far better than government "solutions," and the second presentation will boil down everything we learned into bite-sized pieces we can take out and serve up to our neighbors, family, friends and grocery store line-mates in ten seconds to two minutes, aka the sales method.

The end goal of this conference and our continuing education is to prepare the voting public to elect liberty candidates in two and four years. We can play around with party politics all we want, but if we try to run a liberty candidate in two or four years with the same electorate, we have no reason to expect better results. We must prepare the field and sow the seads if we are to reap the rewards.

We're working on lining up a well-versed speaker for this conference, where we hope to see 500 or more of you, but are still at the stage where we can take recommendations. Is there someone in particular you feel best explains free market economics (aka the Austrian School)? Email me.

In liberty,

Marianne

While not the smartest liberty lover out there, I try to keep up on my reading.  This is still, hands down, one of my favorite essays.

Yesterday's Star Tribune reports on Rosella Sonsteby, a rebel running for mayor of Andover, MN at age 92.

She's not crazy about youngsters like John McCain or Barack Obama, but she's hoping Ron Paul will make a comeback in this presidential election.

Rosella, you have two decades on the good doctor, so there's always a chance, if not necessarily for this election.
