A couple of weeks ago, Congressman Watt of North Carolina, neutered HR 1207 in sub-committee. Dr. Paul was left with only one option, and that was to attempt to reinsert the original language via an amendment process, which took place yesterday, November 19. Please see this link to read full details on what took place and to see important details on what we need to do going forward.

Here is how the Illinois delegation voted:

Representative Gutierrez (CD-4) voted against HR 1207

Representative Bean (CD-8) voted against HR 1207

Representative Foster (CD-14) voted against HR 1207

Representative Biggert (CD-13) voted for HR 1207

Representative Manzullo (CD-16) voted for HR 1207

Please let these representatives know how you feel about their votes; you can find their contact information by clicking here.

Thanks to your quick action in contacting Congress, the House Financial Services Committee earlier today rejected Representative Mel Watt's attempt to hijack Audit the Fed by voting 43-26 to pass Ron Paul's amendment to the financial regulatory reform bill.

Dr. Paul called me right after the vote to personally express his thanks to C4L members for all of your efforts!

It is an incredible testament to the growing power of the liberty movement that we were able to get such an audit passed by a major House committee, but this is by no means the end of our fight.

Financial Services leadership has seemed determined for several months that if an audit of the Fed were to get out of Committee, it should be attached to an overall regulatory reform package that would actually increase the powers of the Fed to interfere in our economy.

Congressman Paul's amendment gives the Government Accountability Office power to conduct a thorough audit of the Fed's entire $2 trillion balance sheet and replaces the Watt language that would have further restricted GAO audits of the Federal Reserve.

While this is a victory over an attempted hijacking of our cause, the audit authority is still being rolled into the Financial Stability Improvement Act, a bill that Campaign for Liberty will oppose.

This Act will be voted on as soon as the Committee returns from its Thanksgiving break, and we will then know if it will move to the floor.

And it's already becoming clear that Ron Paul's amendment may face challenges on the House floor.

Now is the time to turn up the pressure!

Keep contacting Congress and tell your representative that before Congress debates over giving the Fed any new powers, we need to know what they're doing with the ones they already have!

Urge your representative to support a standalone, up or down vote on Audit the Fed, H.R. 1207.

We've put too much work into this effort to see an audit bogged down in yet another Washington bureaucratic nightmare.

Make no mistake, though, the victory today proved we can get the votes to pass the thorough, historic audit we've been fighting for this past year. We have put the Federal Reserve on notice that the freedom movement is serious about reclaiming our country and that it is here to stay.

Thanks for all you do for the cause of freedom. Now, let's finish this fight!

A few weeks ago, we sent out an alert that Representative Mel Watt was attempting to water down H.R. 1207 in the House Financial Services Committee.

The latest reports we have received have informed us that a vote on the Watt amendment could come tomorrow!

There's still time for us to stop this attack on Audit the Fed! Click here to get a full list of Financial Services Committee members, along with their contact information.

Financial Services leadership seems determined to include Audit the Fed as part of a regulatory reform package instead of passing it as a standalone bill.

While C4L will still do everything in its power to fight for a standalone vote on Audit the Fed on the House floor, it is critical we challenge Watt's amendment in Committee.

It will become much easier for our representatives to claim they still support Audit the Fed on the House floor if the Watt version passes, when, in reality, Representative Watt's amendment puts restrictions on Government Accountability Office audits of the Fed.

For example, Watt's amendment prevents the GAO from auditing or reviewing decisions to authorize, modify, extend, or terminate loans or liquidity facilities.

Congressman Paul will offer an amendment in Committee restoring an audit of the Fed's entire $2 trillion balance sheet, but we have received word that some of the Democrat members may be waffling on their support for his amendment.

Help us turn up the pressure on these members! Below is the list of Democrats on the committee who have cosponsored H.R. 1207. Please call them and urge them to vote "Yes" on Ron Paul's amendment. Click on their names to get their web contact information.

1. Rep. John Adler, NJ (202) 225-4765

2. Rep. Travis Childers, MS (202) 225-4306

3. Rep. Steve Driehaus, OH (202) 225-2216

4. Rep. Alan Grayson, FL (202) 225-2176

5. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa, TX (202) 225-2531

6. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, FL (202) 225-2706

7. Rep. Dan Maffei, NY (202) 225-3701

8. Rep. Brad Miller, NC (202) 225-3032

9. Rep. Walt Minnick, ID (202) 225-6611

10. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, CO (202)-225-2645

11. Rep. David Scott, GA (202) 225-2939

12. Rep. Brad Sherman, CA (202) 225-5911

13. Rep. Jackie Speier, CA (202) 225-3531

When contacting these members, remember that up to this point, they have been allies on this issue. A civil yet firm tone should be kept during these calls. They should be thanked for their cosponsorship, told that Mel Watt's changes to the bill are unacceptable, and urged to hold the line and honor their promise to support transparency at the Fed by voting "Yes" on Ron Paul's amendment.

And don't forget to click here to get a full list of Financial Services Committee members.

For more information on the Watt amendment, check out this article by The Huffington Post's Ryan Grim.

We are continuing our work to achieve a standalone vote on H.R. 1207 on the House floor, but we must first stop the Watt amendment in the Financial Services Committee.

Make sure the Financial Services Committee members hear from you as soon as their offices open Thursday morning!

A vote could come any time tomorrow. Call, email, and fax the Financial Services Committee members to vote "Yes" on Congressman Ron Paul's amendment.

Ron Paul and Alan Grayson issued their Amendment to restore the true spirit of Audit the Fed last week.

Huffington Post had a report about the two opposing Amendments being offered this week: one by Paul and Grayson, the other by Mel Watt.

A bipartisan effort to force transparency on the Federal Reserve is suddenly in jeopardy after a House Financial Services Committee member introduced an amendment that would let the multi-trillion dollar organization continue throwing tax dollars around in secret.

Rep. Mel Watt, a Democrat from North Carolina, has introduced an amendment intended as an alternative to the measure to audit the Federal Reserve introduced by Reps. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Alan Grayson's (D-Fla.) . But instead of increasing transparency, as the amendment claims to do, Watt's measure would instead make the institution more opaque.

This poll was just brought to my attention. It is sponsored by Dick Durbin, and his claim is that "Most people support a robust public option". Please follow this link and let Mr. Durbin know that his claim is false!

Over the weekend we witnessed the continued assault on our Constitution, and liberty in general, when the Democrat majority in the House rallied their troops, twisted (or nearly broke) some arms and passed "The Affordable Health Care for America Act". If you are anything like me, you sat glued to your television set, intently watching C-Span, knowing in the pit of your stomach that Speaker Pelosi would never have brought the bill to the floor if she did not have the votes to pass it.

Some in this country want to believe that the assault on our rights will be stopped simply by replacing the Democratic majority with Republicans. These well-meaning Americans do not understand that establishment Republicans of today are merely Democrat-lite. They preach limited government out of one side of their mouth, yet vote for bigger government and less freedom, seeking more power for themselves and satisfying their most generous donors, dismantling the Constitution in the same manner as the Democrats that they claim to stand in opposition to.

One shining example of this is Senator Lindsey Graham, who has launched a very public war against Ron Paul, Ron Paul Republicans, and in reality, any Republican who supports the Republican platform, rather than paying lip service to it. Senator Graham recently teamed up with Senator John Kerry in an Op-Ed proclaiming the need for cap and trade policies, despite the fact that the bill would serve no real purpose other than to transfer wealth to a few and further destroy an economy that is already imploding. After a public outcry over this, it remains unclear where Senator Graham stands on this dastardly bill, but you can be certain that the danger of this legislation becoming law is still very real.

Taking this example (which is just one of many) into account, what are liberty-loving Americans who bleed red, white and blue supposed to do?

Believe it or not, the assault on our liberties did not begin 9 years ago with George W. Bush as president. It did not begin under Bill Clinton, John Kennedy or even Woodrow Wilson. Indeed, our very first president presided over the country when the first assault occurred when he signed the "Whiskey Tax" into law. Then Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, justified the tax "more as a measure of social discipline than as a source of revenue". In other words, this was a SIN tax, meant to punish those who participated in activities that some felt were socially unacceptable. This sin-tax rightly infuriated American citizens, having just lost blood and treasure fighting to be a free people, and they revolted in what is known as "The Whiskey Rebellion".

While it is disheartening to know that it took such a short time for the trampling of our rights to begin, the "Whiskey Tax" served to put the people on notice; when Ben Franklin warned that we had "a Republic if (we could) keep it", he truly meant that as a people, we had to be ever vigilant about guarding our rights.

Much time has passed since the first attacks on our rights were launched, and the passage of time has not been a friend to liberty. The further we got from our founding, the less involved the people became, until many readily and eagerly accepted the loss of freedoms as being a necessary evil. In fact, many do not recognize what is happening today as being a loss of freedoms at all; rather, they believe that they are powerless to "do" for themselves and could not survive without the benevolent hand of government to intervene on their behalf.

The loss of liberty at the hand of a power-hungry government is not new, but the reawakening of the American public is something that has not happened to the degree that it is today in a VERY long time. The key to winning any war is to go into every battle well-armed, and make no mistake, we are truly involved in a war for the hearts and minds of our countrymen, and for the survival of our Republic. We must understand that it has taken over 200 years for us to get to the point we have arrived at today, and the damage is not going to be undone overnight. There will be battles won and battles lost, bad bills passed and the wrong people elected to office along the way. While these losses cause pain to those of us who are dedicated to bringing our country back to it's Constitutional roots, we can not let the losses demoralize or stop us.

This war has many fronts; neglecting even one of them not only makes our jobs harder, it makes winning nearly impossible. Petitioning our elected officials on legislation is one important function that we must not neglect, but that act alone will not advance the cause of freedom. We must educate ourselves and our neighbors about the Constitution and demonstrate to them how a particular bill is in violation of the law of the land, and at the same time, we must offer them solid solutions to the problems we face.

We cannot focus on federal issues and candidates to the exclusion of state and local issues and candidates. Remember, "all politics is local" and it does no good to attempt to reform a federal government run amok while ignoring the bodies closer to home that have been infected by the same disease.

We must stop "fighting City Hall" and focus on BECOMING City Hall. In many cases, changing out the "cast of characters" is our only real option, and while running for office may not be glamorous, or anything (you) may have desired to do in the past, we ignore this important "front" at our own peril. Our Founders envisioned a citizenry that would keep our elected officials honest and compliant with the Constitution by voting the bad eggs out of office, and at this point in time, there are far more bad eggs running than good ones. To ignore the need for liberty candidates at all levels of government guarantees that those seats will be filled by the same old tax-and-spend lawless breed that has infected our country and brought us to the point we find ourselves at today.

We must be more visible than our adversaries. The Tea Parties and Town Halls are a great start, but we can't stop there. We must attend City Council and County Board meetings, sit in the audience during legislative sessions, and personally visit legislator's offices often; in short, we must be a constant thorn in their sides.

Rather than constantly "chasing the ball" and trying to prevent bad bills from becoming law, we must be a part of lobbying for good bills to become law, allowing us to nullify the attempts of legislators to further erode our freedoms. At the federal level, HR 1207 is a shining example of bills we should fight for, and at the state level, we need to address states rights legislation that will nullify federal laws that overstep the dictates set on the federal government by the Constitution.

If we are to win elections and possess the ability to influence our neighbors, we have no choice but to get involved in local politics. Whether you choose to work with the Democrats, Republicans, LP, CP or some other party is entirely up to the individual, but simply showing up at the polls to vote every couple of years limits you to having a vote ONLY on issues or candidates that others have chosen FOR you.

In order to win our freedoms back, we must be committed to leading the way. Ignoring any front in this battle will greatly impair our ability to win. The passage of "health care reform" in the House was disturbing, but the war is not over yet. Recall Samuel Adams famous words, "It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."

Ideas are formally known as "the content of cognition" or the main thing of which you are thinking. That may be the dictionary (or technically the Wikipedia) definition, but for many of us, ideas are much more than that.
Ideas were a common theme in Ron Paul's presidential campaign. From the Rally for the Republic he said, "Ideas spread, they cannot stop them. Ideas whose time has come cannot be stopped by any government or any army."
I think an important difference between Ron Paul's campaign, and the campaigns of other candidates, especially Obama's, is that Ron Paul wasn't trying to create a personality cult. I was a Ron Paul fan long before I watched any of his speeches, or actually saw him. I was excited about the ideas that he was spreading. I wasn't thrilled over Ron Paul personally, but what he stood for.
So what is it about ideas? What makes them so powerful?

1) Ideas Unite
This too was a major theme of Ron Paul's campaign. There were people from different races, different socio-economic backgrounds (that seems to be the politically correct term, "socio economic"), people who were life-long staunch Republicans, people who couldn't stand the 2-party system, Libertarians, even, I daresay, some Democrats...all these people had one thing in common-they wanted liberty. They believed in the idea of individual liberty, of limited government, of free markets. Unlike Obama's campaign, this was not a racially charged run. It had absolutely nothing to do with race, because all people, no matter what skin color, should be free. It had absolutely nothing to do with religion, because all people, no matter who they believe in, should be free. It had absolutely nothing to do with wealth, because all people, no matter how poverty-stricken or filthy rich, should be free. It had nothing to do with education because all people, no matter if they didn't finish 8th grade, or have six degrees, should be free. That is the power of liberty. I know this personally. It has been a tremendous experience, walking beside so many different people in tea parties and rallies, and working C4L booths with various people, liberty unites and draws people together. I attended an Audit the Fed rally in Chicago this fall, it was a very inspiring event, especially for someone who is new to political activism, who hasn't attended many rallies or big events. There were all sorts of people at that rally, and we all got along just fine and were drawn together because we all wanted liberty. The idea of liberty united us.

2) Ideas Inspire
I often think about what made me get politically active. It certainly was not the plea of any person that pushed me on. I didn't see someone on TV, and decide I would go do something for them, because they "asked" me to. I convinced my family to make Tea Party signs and attend the April 14th Tea Party because of the ideas I believed in. And the idea of liberty keeps me going. This work can be very discouraging sometimes. Especially at times like this, when the House passed that huge healthcare bill, even after a summer of strong, and sometimes violent, townhall meetings. I start wondering, is all of this worth it? I've put enormous efforts into this work, I've sacrificed a lot of time to the cause, mostly because I am at a place in life when I have more time than people generally do. I've organized, I've planned, I've so much, and yet it seems like we aren't getting anywhere. Maybe I should go back to being a silent observer, a quiet patriot. Is this worth it? And then I think of the world we're trying to create. A world in which all people are free to pursue their dreams, make a business (and succeed, or fail at it), use their money any way they want, learn whatever they want, and do anything they want as long as they let everyone else do the same. Can you imagine a world where I wouldn't have to ask permission from Our Father Who Art in D.C. every time I want to do something? I could put an addition on my house without having a government official come look at it, and without paying a hefty fee! I could decide I wanted to drive somewhere, without getting permission to drive a vehicle of transportation. I could start up a business selling cookies from my home, and if people didn't trust that my home was clean and sanitary...well, I'd go out of business. I could buy and sell anything I wanted, without doing it "under the table" with fear of someone catching me. I could marry someone I loved without asking the government for permission. I could teach my children whatever I wanted, without asking permission.
Now, that's an idea worth fighting for.

That's an idea I hope I would be willing to give up everything for. That's the idea America was founded on, and that's the idea we can't give up.

House Democrat leadership is planning to ram its 1,900-page complete government takeover of health care through Congress with a vote this Saturday at 6 pm eastern.

But many Democrats are hesitant to support the plan after Tuesday's election results. With every passing day, they are growing more worried about facing the wrath of angry constituents back home.

You and I can take advantage of their doubts to stop the Pelosi Plan in the House, but only if we act quickly and make it clear where we stand.

Click here to get contact information for your representative and urge him to stand up for the American people by opposing the forced insurance mandate, higher taxes, and red tape contained in the Pelosi Plan.

And if the vote takes place Saturday night as scheduled, they will be in their offices all that day. So keep the calls going on Saturday!

There is a real alternative to yielding more power over our lives to Washington: implementing a plan centered on freedom, choice, and faith in the American taxpayers that they know how to spend their money better than some unelected bureaucrat.

That's why Campaign for Liberty has launched www.OperationHealthFreedom.com.

This new website highlights our Health Freedom Plan, features videos from Judge Napolitano, Rand Paul, Peter Schiff, and more, and gives you contact information for your representative, along with a sample letter to Congress.

The same government that has piled up trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security is not going to fix our health care system with more intervention.

It's time to send Congress a clear message: get out of our health care!

Update: Current reports indicate the vote could be moved to early next week! The pressure is working!  Keep those calls going.

Operation Health Freedom Website Launched

Washington, D.C., November 5, 2009 - Today, House Republicans are holding a press conference in front of a rallying crowd to oppose the Democrat's health reform plan introduced late last week. Campaign for Liberty, which announced its support for an alternative to the Democrat health reform plan last week as well, is also launching a new project and website to promote its proposal.

The project, Operation Health Freedom (http://www.OperationHealthFreedom.com), boasts a site which gives visitors information on the legislation and on how to contact their representatives in Congress to urge them to support this alternative health reform package.

"Campaign for Liberty is proposing that Congress try passing legislation that promotes true health freedom," said John Tate, President of Campaign for Liberty. "The same government that has given us trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security is not going to fix our health care system with this latest bureaucratic scheme. It's time to vote health freedom."

The Operation Health Freedom package includes legislation introduced by Congressman Ron Paul. The cornerstone of the package is H.R. 1495, the Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act of 2009, which provides all Americans with a tax credit for 100% of health care expenses, a tax credit for premiums for high-deductible insurance policies connected with a Health Savings Account (HSA), and allows seniors to use funds in an HSA to pay for a medigap policy.  In addition, it makes all medical expenses tax deductible.

Also included are H.R. 2629, a bill that prevents the government from requiring people to purchase health insurance, and H.R. 3217, introduced by Congressman John Shadegg, which permits the purchase of health insurance across state lines and will ultimately lower costs due to the resulting competition.

HR 1207 has come a long way in the 8+ months that we've been working on it, and currently has 308 cosponsors in the House. This is truly an amazing accomplishment when you consider that Dr. Paul has been trying to bring awareness to the secrecy of the Fed for 30 years with little notice by his peers, or from the public at large. We have proven that we are a force to be reckoned with. In under a year, we worked to gain the support of 308 members of the House, and we also saw HR 1207 receive a hearing in front of the House Financial Services Committee.

Of course, when liberty's light begins to shine through the muck and the mire, the establishment takes notice, and they tend to fight back.

According to Campaign for Liberty President, John Tate:

Mel Watt (D-NC), Chairman of the Monetary Policy Subcommittee, has sided with banking interests and is working to gut substantial audit provisions from H.R. 1207.  The bill Congressman Watt has sent to the full Financial Services Committee contains no audit of the Fed’s monetary   policy-making authority or transparency of the Fed’s secret agreements with foreign central banks.

Without these provisions, a so-called “audit” of the Fed would be worthless.

HR 1207 could be voted on by the full House Financial Services Committee this week, and it is imperative that we act now to ensure that the original language is restored.

While Dr. Paul will be offering an amendment to restore the original provisions contained in HR 1207, he needs our help to ensure that when the vote is taken, those who have already cosponsored the bill remain faithful to their promise to support a full audit of the Federal Reserve. The committee is made up of 41 Democrats and 29 Republicans. 13 of the Democrats who serve on the House Financial Services Committee have cosponsored this bill, and we need to call them and urge them to vote "YES" on the Paul Amendment.

The following is a list of the 13 Democrats who have cosponsored:

1. Rep. John Adler, NJ (202) 225-4765

2. Rep. Travis Childers, MS (202) 225-4306

3. Rep. Steve Driehaus, OH (202) 225-2216

4. Rep. Alan Grayson, FL (202) 225-2176

5. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa, TX (202) 225-2531

6. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, FL Toll Free: 1-877-956-7627

7. Rep. Dan Maffei, NY (202) 225-3701

8. Rep. Brad Miller, NC (202) 225-3032

9. Rep. Walt Minnick, ID (202) 225-6611

10. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, CO (202)-225-2645

11. Rep. David Scott, GA (202) 225-2939

12. Rep. Brad Sherman, CA (202) 225-5911

13. Rep. Jackie Speier, CA (202) 225-3531

When contacting these members, remember that up to this point, these members have been allies on this issue.  A civil yet firm tone should be kept during these calls.  They should be thanked for their cosponsorship, told that Mel Watt’s changes to the bill are unacceptable, and urged to hold the line and honor their promise to support transparency at the Fed by voting “Yes” for the Paul amendment.

We can win this, our first major battle, but in order to do so, we must see it through and call these Representatives. In addition to that, please remember to call Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and urge them to schedule a "stand-alone, up or down vote on the real Audit the Fed bill".

Rep. Barney Frank: (202) 225-5931

Speaker Nancy Pelosi: (202) 225-0100

With a little more effort, we will see HR 1207 pass the House.

In this Audit the Fed update, Dr. Paul explains what is happening with HR 1207 in the Monetary Policy Subcommittee, describes his plan to protect 1207 in the full Financial Services Committee, and provides ideas on actions we can take to keep Audit the Fed from being watered down.

Consider for a moment the legislation that is making it's way through Congress. Health Care reform bills in the House and Senate are an expensive, unconstitutional power grab that promise to dismantle our health care system, steal our rights to privacy and choice, increase our taxes, and deal a devastating blow to our already failing economy. If that isn't the final nail in our economic coffin, Cap and Trade will finish the job. While enriching certain elites that will buy and sell carbon credits, increased energy costs will inflict severe financial hardship on average Americans who are already suffering in this great recession. Large businesses will move to countries with friendlier laws, and small businesses will simply close their doors, costing valuable jobs that are so desperately needed. The Cyber Security Act will give control of the internet to the government, dismantling our right to free speech. The recently passed hate crimes legislation which was attached to a defense spending bill ensures unequal treatment under the law. This is by no means a complete list, but it demonstrates the extreme depths to which our rights are under assault.

How do we stop this out-of-control spending and outright thievery of our rights as Americans? The first step to reigning in the spending and restoring our rights is to audit the Federal Reserve! When the American people TRULY understand the extent of our debt, the fact that the Federal Reserve system is what causes our constant economic crises, as well as the destruction of the middle class and the value of our currency, THEN the Congress will have no choice but to end their spending frenzy.

There is but ONE bill in the Congress that enjoys the support of 75% of the public, has bi-partisan support, and will help America recover from our current economic situation, HR 1207 and her sister, S 604.

We've worked tirelessly since February to bring awareness to this legislation, and we've managed to get 308 cosponsors in the House and 30 in the Senate. This was by no means an easy thing to do, but we did it, and we should all be proud of that. Our efforts also paid off when HR 1207 received a hearing in the House Financial Services Committee, but our work is not done. Despite the popularity of and support for auditing the Fed, this legislation continues to be ignored.

As Campaign for Liberty President John Tate says, we need to "unleash a torrent of political pressure on Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid..." Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid continue to stand in the way of allowing a vote on this legislation. We have worked far too hard for far too long to allow them to continue to waffle on these bills. It's the bottom of the ninth, and all bases are loaded! It's time to bring the runners home.

Click here to sign the petitions to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid demanding that they bring Audit the Fed to the floor for a vote, if you have not done so already. Then CALL, FAX and EMAIL your Senators and Congressman to insist that they cosponsor this legislation if they haven't already. Ask them to tell Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid to bring HR 1207 and S 604 to the floor for a vote. Spread the word to your family and friends that the final push to get these bills passed has begun, and we need their help to make it happen.

Our freedoms are under attack, but we can change that. Let's clog up the phone lines and crash their servers! It's time to bring Audit the Fed to the floor for a vote.

This week (Sunday through Tuesday), big labor organized a major protest of all of the large banks in Chicago to coincide with the American Banking Association (ABA) conference.  Labor activists from all over the Midwest were bussed to this event, called the Showdown in Chicago, to demonstrate in front of the major banks, including Bank of America and Wells Fargo.  They urged the banks to cease in engaging in "preditatory lending practices" both through chants, and through a letter hand delivered to each bank's office.

Matthew Navarro and I went to the rallies on Monday to spread the word about Audit the Fed, and introduce some people to Campaign for Liberty.

Having attended many of the Tea Parties this year, this demonstration felt quite different to me for the following reasons:

  • These rallies were much more top-down.  At the Tea Parties we would chant "No More Bailouts", etc. in unison.  At these rallies one leader would yell something, and then all the attendees were expected to yell the same thing, but after the attendees had yelled it, similar to someone repeating after the priest when taking wedding vowes.
  • The people at these rallies all arrived by bus, and I am not talking about city bus route 151, I mean large busses that brought people in from Peoria, Cleveland, etc. just for this event, while at the Tea Parties many came individually in their cars, on trains, and bicycles (well, that is how I got there).
  • The chants were much more elaborate- including phrases such as "ceas and desist prediatory lending practices".  The Tea Party cants were simpler, like "Socialism Sucks".

We handed out Campaign for Liberty Audit the Fed slim jims to people and got a mostly positive response.  We avoided the people wearing the SEIU jackets, but most of the individual members accepted the literature and some even pledged to call or write their sennators in support of S. 604.

Despite the reputation that the SEIU and big labor have for being in the tank for big government, I feel that some of the indiviudal members who would atted such a rally may be open to our message.  They are generally working people who resent seeing their money taken and given to others, especially to big corporations via bailouts.  They recognize that something is wrong, and appear to be paying a lot more attention to what is going on than the average reality TV watching, weekend mall shopping American.   The problem is that they have been lead to believe that Government is going to help them, and that big government politicians are on their side, when in reality, Government is the main entity that is screwing them!  My hopes is that enough people will check out our website (which is listed on our literature) and see what is going on with the Government and the Fed.

At the rally I talked to many people briefly, urging them to call senators, and telling them about HR1207/S604.  I talked to three people for longer periods of time (I will not mention their names for confidentiality).

  • The first person I talked to was talking to us about how our Sennators were bought and paid for, and how the bailouts were bad for the people.  This person was definitely with us on the Federal Reserve issue, but might not be on some other issues.
  • The second person I talked to was probably one of the few negative responses I recieved.  He was telling me about how the $11 Trillion debt, and monetary inflation did not affect anybody.  He also said he did not care if we printed money, he only cared about who it was going to.  I was polite, but quickly realized this individual was not an ally.
  • The third person I talked to told me that he liked Ron Paul, but was somewhat concerned about his economic policies.  Basically, he was worried that Ron Paul and co. would want to get rid of all city parks, and anything that would be labeled "socialist".  He said he was not very happy with Barack Obama and was looking for something else to believe in- completely with us on the Federal Reserve and foreign policy.  I plan to meet up with him again and answer all his questions about our movement.

Maybe some new members will come out of this particular endeavor, maybe they won't.  However, I still feel that these people have the energy and the attention we need, their anger is just slightly mis-directed.  If we can show theese people the real reason all their jobs are being downsized, and their housing is threatened, maybe we can strengthen the movement, and bring over some people from the so-called left.

Want to take back your country?  Start in your own backyard!  If the Campaign for Liberty can place liberty-minded committeeman in every precinct in the country, we can position ourselves to restore our liberties from the bottom up.

What does a committeman do and how does this help us take back our country?

According to the DuPage County election commission, the expectations of the job include:

  • Represent the party's voters at the county central committee convention to elect the county central chairman and its officers. The precinct committeeman casts a total number of party votes, (weighted vote), as cast in the precinct at the recent primary election
  • Attend and become involved in the party's Township meetings
  • Become a voter registrar and register all qualified constituents
  • Appoint and fill vacancies of election judges for the precinct polling place
  • Provide candidate and election information to the voters
  • Circulate petitions for candidates prior to the primary election
  • Become familiar with the elected officials and legislatures so the concerns of the voters can be passed on to them

This is why the position is so important.  By circulating petitions for candidates and providing candidate and election information to the voters, the precinct committeeman can influence which hopeful politicans can even get on the ballot and also what message is sent to voters regarding their representativs.

Sound interesting?  Give the below article a quick read, and if you think you're ready to take the plunge, get to work getting your signatures in by November 2nd!  Don't like the Republican party? No problem!  The Campaign for Liberty wants to see liberty-minded committeemen representing all parties, so pick your favorite and go nuts!

10 Days left to run for Republican Committeeman
Posted: October 23, 2009

By Doug Ibendahl

There is still time to be a part of the Republican Renaissance in Illinois. In fact if new people don't step-up, it won't happen.

The last day to circulate and file petitions to get on the February 2nd Primary Ballot is Monday, November 2nd. So there are 10 days left.

In all Illinois counties (except for Cook) every Republican Precinct Committeeman spot is up for election in the February 2nd Primary. There are several thousand of these volunteer spots statewide and many are currently unfilled.

Precinct Committeemen aren't elected in Cook County but the 30 Republican Township Committeeman spots are also up for election on February 2nd.

You've probably noticed that our State Party doesn't actively recruit Committeemen despite a huge vacancy rate around the state. In other states it's a given that the State GOP recruits, but not here. That's why we're picking-up the slack through the Republican Renaissance Project.

Don't just sit back and let another election slip away folks. This party belongs to you as much as it does to the old party pooh-bahs.

You have until the close of business on November 2nd to gather and file petitions for any office on the ballot in February. In the case of Republican Precinct Committeeman - you only need 10 valid signatures to get on the ballot. You could easily get twice that number (as a cushion) in half a day.

We've got all the details and the forms you need online. Just go to Republican Precinct Committeeman (if you live anywhere outside of Cook), or Republican Township Committeeman (suburban Cook County only).

And just shoot me an email at dibendahl@ilryp.org if you still have any questions.

Doug Ibendahl is a Chicago Attorney and a former General Counsel of the Illinois Republican Party. He is Co-Founder of Republican Young Professionals (RYP).

For months we speculated about what the "bad guys" would do to undermine our efforts demanding a full audit of the Federal Reserve.  With more than two thirds of the House signed on to HR 1207 and over 30 cosponsors of S 604  It looked inevitable that Ron Paul's bill would actually receive a floor vote.  Many justifiably cynical skeptics, however, believed that there would be an attempt to water down the language of the bill, and by now I'm sure you have heard that these suspicions have been confirmed.   Yesterday the "Federal Reserve Accountability Act" was introduced by Democrat Jeff Merkley and Republican Bob Corker under the guise of a "compromise." Don't be fooled by the name (and don't take my word for it, read the full text of the bill below.)

While it is hoped that this bill will appease our movement by providing a pretense of an audit while maintaining the Fed's "independence" (read: secrecy), we're not buying it.  But believe me when I tell you that this is exactly the bill we will get if we don't step up and immediately and decisively demand a full audit.  Your Senators must understand that we are not willing to compromise on this issue, and that we do not support this deviation from the language of S 604. Please don't let all your hard work be in vain. Please call your Senators today, and politely let them know the importance of this issue.

On a personal note, let me share this.  When I called Senator Burris's office today, the intern I spoke with said he had not received any calls about this bill, but he had received some calls about S 604.  The intern at Durbin's office, though only having manned the phones for 90 minutes, had received no such calls.  Let's change this.  Let's make them so sick of hearing about S 604 that they personally tell their Senators to vote for it just to make their jobs less monotonous.  Let's also remember to encourage the people we talk to at their offices to look into the bill if they haven't yet.  Mention that it has bipartisan support in both houses and support of 75% of Americans.  Most of the staffers you will speak with are interns, and may still be personally persuaded by some Campaign for Liberty logic.

Federal Reserve Accountability Act

On October 20, Senators Merkley (D-OR) and Corker (R-TN) introduced The Federal Reserve Accountability Act. The bill, whose name is deceptively similar to HR 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act, does not fully audit the Federal Reserve, and does not provide "accountability". According to a press release issued by Gary Howard, "The bill would permit an audit of the Fed's actions in the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and similar high profile bailouts, but would not allow Congress to review the Fed's inflation of the money supply or its agreements with foreign central banks." Additionally, according to Campaign for Liberty President, John Tate, "the names of the institutions who received the funds would not be available until one year after each "emergency" program ended."

Like Illinois Senators Durbin and Burris, Senators Merkley and Corker have waffled on S 604, refusing to support the measure that provides real transparency to the taxpayers, and demands true accountability from the Federal Reserve.

It is pretty clear that the hard work and dedication of Campaign for Liberty members across the country have made an impact on those in Washington. If not for the public awareness of HR 1207 and S 604, this impostor legislation never would have been introduced. Your action is needed again to spread the word about this deceptive bill, and contact Senators Durbin and Burris to let them know that we will not be appeased by their support of any Federal Reserve Transparency bill other than S 604. Please call and/or FAX them, using the numbers provided below. Clicking on their names will take you to their email contact forms.

Dick Durbin: Phone: 202) 224-2152      Fax: 202) 228-0400

Roland Burris: Phone: 202) 224-2854    Fax: 202) 228-3333

Please spread this message around your meetups, Facebook, Twitter, and any other network you use to ensure that our Senators get enough phone calls to guarantee that they fully understand that we will accept nothing less than their full support of S 604.

Federal Reserve Accountability Act An Unacceptable Compromise

Washington D.C. October 20, 2009 -Today, Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Bob Corker (R-TN) introduced the Federal Reserve Accountability Act S.1803, an attempted compromise on the issue of transparency for America's secretive central bank.  The bill would permit an audit of the Fed's actions in the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and similar high profile bailouts, but would not allow Congress to review the Fed's inflation of the money supply or the its agreements with foreign central banks.

Legislation that would bring a full audit of the Fed, Congressman Ron Paul's H.R. 1207 and its Senate companion S. 604, has gained strong grassroots support and built tremendous pressure on banking special interests.

Opponents of Fed Transparency argue that a full audit of the Federal Reserve would damage the central bank's "independence" and allow Congress to dictate monetary policy.

"Claims that transparency at the Federal Reserve would leave Congress in charge of monetary policy are simply bogus," said Jesse Benton, Senior Vice President of Campaign for Liberty. "There is absolutely no reason why The American People should not be able to review the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee after a reasonable amount of time has passed."

"The Federal Reserve Accountability Act does not audit the monetary policy functions which have been responsible for our deteriorating dollar and so many of our current economic problems, and it is not an acceptable piece of legislation. Campaign for Liberty will continue to push for a full audit of the Fed."

The announcement of the new legislation comes after the number of cosponsors in the House of Representatives for H.R. 1207 recently climbed to 303, and S. 604 gained 30 senate cosponsors.  Campaign for Liberty has been leading the grassroots effort on H.R .1207, getting it to its current point with 75% of Americans showing support for a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve.

Defenders of Liberty,

This Tuesday, October 20, Organizing For America (continuation of the Obama campaign) is planning a mass action 'call party' in support of a government takeover of health care (See original e-mail below).

Their plan is to organize supporters to make 100,000 calls to congress in one day to make a big push for the state-controlled health agenda. In an attempt to counter their move that day, it would be great if the dedicated  grassroots activists and supporters of C4L could make just as big of a push in opposition to government-run health care.

Let's have our own 100,000 calls to congress push! Let our voices be heard, and let them know we will not stand for it! In the process, we can block their attempts to influence congress.

If this is a action you would like to be involved in, please reply in comments section--and tell a friend. Join the Revolution!

Original OFA e-mail:

With health insurance reform finally ready for consideration before the full Congress, we've set a big goal for this Tuesday: 100,000 calls to Congress made or committed to in a single day. We'll make our voices heard above the din created by the insurance industry's campaign of misinformation and fear and make sure our representatives know it's finally time to deliver on health reform.

But here's the thing -- if we're going to get there, we need your help to reach out to friendly folks who still need to speak up in support of reform.

We're holding "Time to Deliver" call parties and neighborhood outreach events across the country. We'll get together in living rooms and community centers, and reach out to supportive voters whose voices are particularly critical in this debate. We'll talk to them about the President's plan, and then we'll ask them to call on their representatives to support reform and thank those already doing so.

And the President will be joining all of the events that evening via an exclusive webcast -- please find an event near you and RSVP today.

Time to deliver
You don't need to have any experience to attend a Time to Deliver event. The host will have everything set up for you, so it will just be a great evening of reaching out to voters with your friends and neighbors and making a tremendous difference.

We've set a big goal, but if we hit it, two things will happen: we'll have set a new record for contacting Congress in a single day, and the phones in our representatives' offices will be ringing off the hook the whole day, meaning our voices cannot be ignored.

With more than 1,000 events happening on Tuesday, we've got everything set to reach our goal -- but we need you to make it happen.

Please RSVP for an event by you:

See you out there,

Jeremy

National News

HR 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, continues to gain cosponsors in the House. As of today, there are 303 Representatives signed on to the legislation. Illinois gained it's last cosponsor on July 31, when Representative Jackson signed on, leaving 6 Representatives lacking commitment to transparency. The following is a list of these Representatives; clicking on their names will take you to their websites. The three with asterisks serve on the House Financial Services Committee, where the bill currently resides.

Bobby Rush (CD-1)

*Luis Gutierrez (CD-4)

Mike Quigley (CD-5)

*Melissa Bean (CD-8)

Jerry Costello (CD-12)

*Bill Foster (CD-14)

Please call, write, email and FAX these 6 and bring them on-board this very important legislation. Be sure to insist that they pass this bill as written, without attaching it to any other legislation. Continue to contact Senator's Durbin and Burris as well and urge them to cosponsor S 604, the corresponding bill in the Senate. Document all of your efforts, and be sure to enter their responses into blog posts and Letters to the Editor, so that their constituents are aware of their support, or lack thereof, of transparency.

While our continued efforts on Audit the Fed legislation is imperative, be sure to contact all Illinois legislators about pending Health Care Reform bills in both Houses as well. The Senate is currently working on merging all of the different bills that have passed through committee, and it is crucial that we stop the federal government's takeover of our health care system. Stay current on the latest breaking news concerning this issue on the Campaign for Liberty home page, as well as the Illinois profile.

Member Activism

The time is drawing short for those who plan to run for Precinct Committeeman in the party of their choice to gather signatures on petitions for the upcoming elections. If you haven't started working within your county party yet, there is no time like the present to get started. Precinct Committeemen are able to vote on important issues within their party, and it is the best way to lead within your party and set policy rather than having to follow what others decide.

We are still looking to fill many Local, County and Regional Coordinator positions here in Illinois. If you have any questions on what these positions require, or if you have someone in mind (including yourself) that you would like to nominate, please contact Heather Danielowski or Doug Bach.

Be sure to follow the Illinois Campaign for Liberty on Twitter and Facebook.

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski and Doug Bach

Interim Illinois State Coordinators

Current reports indicate Senator Max Baucus' Senate Finance Committee is preparing to vote on their version of President Obama's health control scheme today.

One component of Baucus' plan is the mandate that will force most Americans to either have government-approved coverage or to pay a tax penalty enforced by the IRS.

If we take action now, we may be able to stop the Baucus bill from ever reaching the Senate floor. This is a key vote for the administration and a perfect time for us to turn up the heat on Congress.

Click here for a list of Senate Finance Committee members with their contact information linked to their names.

The Committee's main office number is (202) 224-4515.

Tell them to stand up for the American people by opposing this latest power grab. We agree that the status quo has to change, but government intervention in the health care market created this problem. More intervention is guaranteed to only make it much worse.

This fight will be harder to win once the bill reaches the Senate floor. Take action today and help stop Obama's big government health control scheme while it's still in Committee!

Dear Friend of Liberty,

The month of September was a busy, yet exciting month for the Illinois Campaign for Liberty. Concerned patriots from across the state answered the call to bring awareness to S 604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act, by gathering signatures on petitions, writing letters to the editor of local newspapers, calling talk radio shows, and participating in rallies in both Springfield and Chicago. The efforts, led by Justin Kapacinskas in Chicago, and Greg Bishop in Springfield, both included marches through the streets of the cities, ending at our Senator's offices, where thousands of petitions were dropped off. The media took notice of our Springfield rally; be sure to check out this link.

On September 25, HR 1207 received it's first hearing in the House Financial Services Committee. Read all about what transpired that day here. Without the hard work and dedication of members across the nation, this hearing probably would not have taken place, but despite this incredible accomplishment, we can not afford to let up on our efforts. With 299 cosponsors in the House and 30 in the Senate, "Audit the Fed" should pass in both Houses rather easily, however, it is extremely important that we continue to call and write our Representatives and Senators and insist that they vote for this bill in it's current form and not attached to any other legislation. Those Illinois Representatives that have cosponsored HR 1207 should continue to receive communications thanking them for their support, and requesting that they oppose any changes to the bill. Those Illinois Representatives, as well as both Senators, who have not committed to the transparency of the Federal Reserve should continue to hear from us demanding their support. To take action on this, or to view a complete list of cosponsors, please click here.

We are beginning to see the dollar crisis that has been predicted by the Austrian Economists including Ron Paul, Peter Schiff, and all of the folks with the Mises Institute.

When the U.N. starts talking about new reserve currencies, and OPEC nations are having secret talks about abandoning the USD as the pricing currency for oil, one has to assume that the dollar crisis will be right around a not too distant corner.

The most frightening commentary that I've seen in the news today is that Iran claims that it is seeing bigger oil profits since abondoning the greenback. If that's true we'll most likely see some additional countries turn to follow the profit.

Hold on tight folks.

Us Campaign for Libery members understand that corporate bailouts, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, easy money and all of the other factors that enabled all of the bad mortgages which lead to the housing bubble and its' subsequent collapse have nothing to do with "Capitalism".  However, in the days imidiately following the financial collapse, my fear was that the majority of the American public would not get this.  I feard that the Democrats would become all-out soldiers for Socialism, renouncing Capitalism as the cause of another depression, and the Republicans would simply rally behind a "not quite as much" message [we need more regulation, but not quite as much as the Democrats are proposing].

While, amongst the political class, this fear has at least partially beeen realized [it can be argued that some Republicans, regardless of intentions, have embraceed the true message of the financial collapse], it has not been true amongst the American people, which is quite encounraging.  Last month, Jesse Workman (C4L 4th district member) blogged about an article in the Huffington Post which outlines the differences between Capitalism and Corporatism.  Although the autor of the article may reach some different conclusions than I would reach, his message about the fundamental differences between the two systems clearly demonstrates that he understands that large parts of our economy are not "Capitalist".

Another "mainstream" source, Smart Money magazine, also published an article this week, which demonstrates an encourgaging understanding of what Capitalism is, and how it differs from what we have seen in the housing market pretty much since Fannie Mae's creation.  This article may have been fueled by anger directed at Micahel Moore's new movie, but the understanding of the economic system in paragraph two distinguishes this article as much more intellectually usefull than some other Moore-bashing articles, and even presents us with hope that other "mainstream" sources will look into this and come to the same conclusion; Our housing market was not a free marktet, is not a free markt, and the free market is not responsible for the crisis.

Throughout the year, pollster Scott Rasmussesn has demonstrated that there is a wide gap in attitude between what he refers to as "mainstream America", and what he refers to as the "Political Class".  The gap between these two groups, he claims, is ususally wider than the gap between Republicans and Democrats.  This, is also a new phenomenon, as RR did not mention this gap prior to 2009.  The political class is clearly in the minority according to polls.  This is the group of people that is largely controlling the current discourse in Washington DC.

Most of America is not buying the "we need a vast expnasion of government" vs. "we only need slightly more government than the status quo" discourse amongst the political class.  More and more Americans, as evidenced in these recent articles and polls are recognizing the problem for what it is; not a free market failure, but a failure of Government intervention.  I, for one, cannot wait to see what kind of true free market candidates we can elect in 2010!

The Campaign for Liberty has realized incredible success in the year since it's founding. In our first nationwide effort, Americans from every walk of life have banded together and managed to convince 297 Representatives, and 28 Senators to cosponsor Audit the Fed legislation. While this is a huge victory, the many patriots among us are not yet satisfied.

With 297 cosponsors in the House, technically we have more than enough Representatives to pass this bill. Most people would be content with that number and move on to gaining more support in the Senate or even change their focus to some other issue near and dear to their heart. Members of this movement are tenacious, and "good enough" isn't how we do business. Until Audit the Fed becomes law, our members will continue to do everything it takes to bring enlightenment to the hold-outs in the Senate and the House, while we strive to bring transparency to the American people, as was promised to us in the last election cycle.

Congress and the Federal Reserve should take note. We won't back down until this legislation passes unmolested. If my job depended on the satisfaction of voters, I would not want to be on the wrong side of this issue. If we can reach 75% of the electorate on this our first issue, with our numbers hovering around 200,000, imagine what we will be able to do at election time when our numbers have doubled or tripled.

The hard-charging members in this campaign have accomplished something in one year that Dr. Paul himself has tried to do for over 30 years. We made believers out of 325 lawmakers that prior to now have utterly ignored the power of the Federal Reserve. The vast majority of the members here had never been politically active, indeed, many had never written to their Congressman or called their office to point out the unconstitutionality of the latest piece of legislation.

Reaching out to our legislators has now become second nature. While we continue to approach those in office, it is imperative that we bring our neighbors into the fold. After a year of facing down elected officials who generally want to hear from you only when you are in support of their latest pet project, sharing the message of freedom with our neighbors should be a cake-walk.

When HR 1207 was introduced in the House, each one of us committed to bring our own Congressman on board. In similar fashion, if we each commit to bringing our own neighbor into the fold, we would see our numbers increase to such an extent that no one would dare to marginalize us.

If we think in terms of trying to reach millions, the job seems too great to bear; however, if we focus on reaching just ONE person per week, or even per month, we will reach millions in a very short period of time. It is said that all politics is local, and as we strive to take back our own backyards, the political climate at all levels will be transformed. The strength of the Campaign for Liberty rests solely with the grassroots; the grassroots is the foundation upon which the success of the organization relies. Keeping this in mind, let's each commit to reaching one patriot each month. Right now we have 217,847 members, each striving to win back our freedoms. If we each reach 1 more patriot by the end of October, we would be 435,694 strong, and by the end of the year, we would have 1.7 million members. Imagine for a moment what it would be like to have 1.7 million people to share the load....

Each one reach one.

It's right here in the Chicago Tribune folks! I hear more and more about it all the time, from sources other than C4L. We're doing our jobs!

Please answer the poll question on the left hand side of the screen. The results are already overwhelmingly on the side of an audit, but let's really hammer it home.

Keep up the great work!

The gun show isn't over yet, a couple more hours today, and then tomorrow, but so far it went really well, despite a few setbacks...

We ran out of petition forms, and somebody, not I, had the brilliant idea of letting people sign the sheets of paper underneath the actual forms, because there are wide margins on the paper, and we could get a number of signatures in, and if necessary the backs could be used. So we got through that emergency.
And then our sign started falling down. Now, I am not an expert, but I had the idea that duct tape basically solves the world's problems. Well...it doesn't.
We spent the morning trying to tape our sign back to the front of the table, finally my mom and I gave up and left it for the guys to figure out. I am not very used to duct tape...I guess guys just rip pieces of tape off the roll, but I had to use scissors, lol...but in any case, I am sure it is fixed now. It was just a little amusing to be crawling under the table sticking tape on our sign, all the while trying to explain to a number of people what the petitions were all about--talk about multi-tasking. :)
We met a couple Campaign members, one from Winnebago County, and one from Whiteside, which was really nice.
I think one of the biggest obstacles we have at gun shows and events like that is that people are so educated about the state of our government that they've given up on it. They won't bother to sign petitions, "because Durbin won't listen anyways" or "The Fed will never tell us where our money is." There's the defeatism attitude we have to try and get around. Yes, our government is in a terrible state, but it won't get any better if we don't do anything about it. As long as people still know what liberty is, there is hope.
We had a table next to Bill Lee, who is running again Sen. Durbin in 2014, and I met an organizer of www.icarry.org, an organization pushing for concealed carry in IL and Wis. It is always nice to meet like-minded citizens who are actually doing something about the problems.
Like I said, we don't have a final report yet, but I think this gun show is going better than the last one. We have a sign on our table that says, "I'll keep my freedom, my money, and my guns...you keep the change," and I think that's catches attention. :)
As I was aware, and as was pointed out to me, I was not very organized for this event, just kinda threw a bunch of stuff in the car and hoped we had everything, but it is turning out quite well. I was a little preoccupied with catching up on school...did I mention I am graduating next May? :) And thank you, Pastor Jim and Don, for giving me the afternoon off, I was able to get a rough draft of our meeting agenda for next Saturday.

I am sure I'll post a final report on Monday.

After months of knocking on doors and attending rallies and functions to gather signatures on HR 1207 petitions, the House Financial Services Committee will finally hold hearings this Friday, September 25, beginning at 9:00 AM EST. Please check this link for any changes to the schedule, and to watch the live feed from the hearings.

In the coming days, it is vital that we all call our own Representatives, as well as the five from Illinois that serve on the Financial Services Committee. It is imperative that we remind our Representatives not just to support an audit of the Fed, but we must also demand that they vote on this bill on it's own merits, without adding or taking away from it in any way, and without adding it to any other legislation.

Illinois Financial Services Committee Members:

Judy Biggert (CD-13) (cosponsor)                 202-225-3515

Donald Manzullo (CD-16) (cosponsor)           202-225-5676

Melissa Bean (CD-8) (NOT a cosponsor)         202-225-3711

Last Friday evening Liberty called in Bloomington. Campaign For LIberty answered. What a great victory for freedom - what a great victory to witness.

Organized with the help of our local membership in just eight short weeks, the evidence of the new political paradigm confronting us and threatening our own well-being, alerted concerned citizens and they responded. They turned out in force to be informed and educated about the efforts to erode our rights.

Speakers at FREEDOM NIGHT included Kathy Michael. She is a local candidate for McLean County Clerk. Kathy educated the enthusiastic crowd with her knowledge about local property rights. Illinois State University Business professor, Dr. Terry Noel, detailed the audience on free market choice and entrepreneurship from a constitutional perspective. Travis Akin of the Illinois Lawsuit Abuse Watch, presented a compelling narrative on the negative effects of lawsuit abuse on all citizens.

Finally, rounding out the exciting evening was our keynote speaker, Michael Badnarik.  Michael is one of the most renowned and acclaimed constitutional experts in the country. I would urge everyone to watch his video's on YOUTUBE. You'll be amazed.

The following day, Michael Badnarik presented his highly popular Constitutional Class, an eight hour long dissertation on the Constitution.  Afterward, some of the class participants and our local organizing group had the pleasure of dining out with each other and the famed teacher.

The dynamics of the McLean County C4L team is phenomenal. What a dedicated group of passionate people for liberty. It just goes to illustrate how the fire of liberty wins the hearts of everyone when we just light it.

Yesterday nearly 100 hundred people in Chicago joined with thousands of others nationwide to demand a full audit of the Federal Reserve Bank.  While H.R. 1207 now boasts a commanding 287 cosponsors, S. 604 still only has a modest 24 consponsors.  Conspicuously absent from this list of cosponsors are two Illinois Senators who continue to protect the secrecy of this institution.

The purpose of this rally was to let senators Durbin and Burris know that we expect them to stand up in opposition to the nearly 100 year reign of secrecy at the Fed and by cosponsoring S. 604.  The rally was also meant to bring awareness to our fellow citizens, and let them know where their representatives stand on the issue of transparency.

From 12:00 - 2:30 PM members of Camapaign for Liberty and other activist groups handed out literature and talked with pedestrians about the movement.  We then marched to Priztger Park where we had a number of speakers share their insights and knowledge with the gathered crowd.  At 4:00 PM, designated teams delivered over 1000 petitions to the senators offices, while the rest of the group continued their march down to the Chicago Fed building.

You can read additional accounts of the Chicago rally here and here, and details of the Springfield rally can be found here.

Thanks to Justin Kapacinskas and Greg Bishop for an excellent job coordinating these events and making them a huge success!

Thanks to Ryan Gaba for sharing the videos of all of our Chicago speakers:

September 16, 2009
by Greg Bishop

"It is time to audit the Federal Reserve" was the message Tuesday afternoon. Around 20 members of the public from around central Illinois gathered to send that clear messages in downtown Springfield, September 15th. S604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009, has 24 cosponsors in the Senate. Current cosponsors do not including the two Senators form Illinois: Senators Roland Burris and Dick Durbin.

A public display of "Audit the Fed" signs along with bullhorn-chants of "get the country out of the red, audit the Fed" and "no more hanky panky Bernanke, show us the money" were combined with thousands of signatures to be delivered to both Senator Burris' and Durbin's Springfield office. The rally began at the Old State Capitol Historic Plaza in the Capitol City.

After being interviewed by several different media outlets covering the start up of the rally, protestors began marching east on Adams street towards Senator Burris' Springfield office. As rally participants stood outside the building holding signs, several members entered the lobby with cameras and over 300 signatures urging Senator Burris to support S604. Staffers were called down to the lobby to pick up the petitions.

Delivering the petitions to staffers also provided the chance to share, in person, the importance of transparency within the Federal Reserve Banking System. One staffer said he was not sure if Burris is aware of the bill, but ensured he would get the signatures to the Senator.

After delivering the signatures to Burris' office, the march continued down 6th street with boisterous chants and passing cars honking in support. Marchers made their way to Jackson Street and turned east. As they continued their march towards Senator Durbin's office, which is located on the grounds of the Abraham Lincoln historic home site, they were stopped by park police.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa ...," a man came charging with hands waving. "You can't have signs here. The free speech zone is down the street," the park officer said.

"Free speech zone? This is America! We have a permit from the city ..."

"This is Federal property. You need a Federal permit"

Then, another officer stepped out of a building with a gun on his hip and an attack dog by his side. Apparently, in order to protest on Federal Property you must have a Federal protest permit. Springfield protesters only obtained a city protest permit. Lessons learned for next time!

The officer with the attack dog politely asked the marchers to not disrupt the tourists visiting Lincoln's historic site by using the bullhorn or chanting. He then escorted the group to Senator Durbin's Springfield office, which is located on Federal property.

After arriving at Senator Durbin's Springfield office, the armed escort asked the members to wait outside while he went to touch base with Durbin's staff. About five minutes later, Bill Houlihan, Durbin's scheduler, came out and was greeted with a box containing over 2000 signatures urging Senator Durbin to support the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009. Houlihan asked several questions about the bill: Who sponsored the bill in the Senate and whether it was in committee in the House? Both questions were answered and thanks were sent all around. "We worked really hard throughout the summer gathering these signatures," Brent Roos of Peoria County said.

After delivering the petitions from across the state, marchers proceeded towards the "free speech zone" and began chanting and marching back to their original starting position at the Old State Capitol Historic Plaza. Similar rallies were held in Chicago and across the country urging Senators to support S604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009

Video of the Springfield event will be posted soon.

Greg Bishop organized the Springfield audit the Fed rally and can be reached by phone: 217.633.4030 or email: bishoponair@gmail.com

Poll: How efective are rallies and protests?

Extremely effective, really get the point accross and sways public opinion and representatives decisions
Somewhat effective, provides for public awareness of the issue
Mildly effective, doesn't do much for public policy, but does bring the issue to the forefront
Not effective at all, a waste of time

I am sorry, I must confess I didn't sit down to write this report as soon as I got home, it is 10pm, and I got home about 45 minutes ago. But my order from C4L came today, so I had to open it and see my new t-shirt and all the fun stuff we ordered. :)

Anyways, here I am.
The day went very well, I think. There was no trouble with the police, or the left-wing extremists that I know of. We were very peaceful, but had a very good presence at Federal Plaza and the surrounding area. From about 12-2:30 we worked the streets around Fed. Plaza, I don't remember the names, someone else will have to fill the details in. But eventually we had 3 or 4 people standing on each corner. What happened was we'd get a person with the clipboard and petitions, ready to get signatures, and there'd be someone handing out literature to as many people as possible, and then there'd be people with signs to attract attention. At least that's how I think it went, and that's how it went on our corner. I held a sign. :) It was fun, and there were really great people there who spent the whole 2 hours trying to talk to people. The environment was not what I was used to at all, and it was hard for me to interrupt people in their walking and start a conversation. I am used to booths and such, but this was totally different, so I watched what the other members were doing, and might try speaking out more next time. One of the catch phrases that we used was, "Do you want to know where your money is going?" And I started cracking up everytime somebody answered, "no." Like, "uh...you really don't care where your money is going? Come on, be serious..." but I didn't say anything. :)
So it was a success, I believe, and although it didn't seem like we got many petitions signed, correct me if I am wrong, I believe we handed out most, if not all, of the literature Justin brought, which was at least 500, probably more.
Then about 2:30 we started marching down to Priztger Park. By then I'd say there were at least 75, if not 100 people with us. The group had to split up, and there are a couple people with bullhorns leading the chant, and we'd answer back to each other, "No more bailouts" and then "Audit the Fed" or "Senator Durbin, Audit the Fed," then "Senator Burris, Audit the Fed" all the way to the park. It was an amazing experience for me to be in this large group of like-minded Americans voicing their concerns and opinions. Very inspiring. Then in the park there were a number of speakers. Someone else will have to fill in the details, because I didn't catch all of them.
Justin roped me into helping him count the petitions, which wasn't exactly easy, considering there were like 6 people trying to help, and the wind was blowing the petitions around, and it was loud, and there was no where to really lay out the petitions. But after a while we got it figured out. I don't have the exact numbers, but we had about 1,050 for Sen. Durbin and 500 for Sen. Burris. After the speeches ended, we walked back to Federal Plaza where the two lead groups, Doug Bach and me, and Lisa Wogan and...I don't remember who went with Lisa, I am sorry...I had a hard time remembering the street where we had to get back on the train, let alone the 20 new people I met today, but anyways, the two lead groups headed into the Federal building to deliver the petitions while Justin lead the main group around a couple blocks, including the Federal Reserve bank. By the way, one of my friends was in this group, and he ended up falling behind the group, and as he walked by the Fed, all the employees were leaving, so he handed out all the slim-jims he had with him to Fed employees. :) So, Doug and I made our way through the building. I was a little worried when we got to security, but we made it through the metal detectors and all that fine. They couldn't have made it any harders for us to reach our senators. They were on like the 32nd floor, through metal detectors and security, and all this stuff. But we found the office, and handed over the petitions. The end. No arrests, no DHS harrassing, we just delivered them, talked to the aide for a few minutes, and left. She said that they would send the petitions to Washington. We'll see how that goes.
Doug and I escaped from the Federal Building, :), and reported back to those eagerly waiting for us. I guess everybody dispersed pretty much after that. We headed out about 4:15 to get pics with the Federal Reserve building, and get some dinner before catching the train.
But overall, it went really well, it was very positive, very peaceful, and very patriotic. It was the first C4L rally I've attending, and I loved seeing all the C4L t-shirts, it was great. It was a good reminder that I am not alone out here, and there are many, many Americans who refuse to have their liberties stripped from them.
I need to go get some sleep...sorry I didn't have more details, Justin or Doug will have to fill in the rest. But to everyone who worked on this, THANK YOU! A big THANK YOU to Justin and Chris for their efforts, and although it didn't turn out as planned, it was fantastic! Keep it up!

There are few occasions that evince the kind of high (and sometimes low) emotions and downright exaltation as the concerted and coordinated efforts of a true grassroots movement.

In Illinois, there exists such a grassroots movement. That movement is known as Audit the Fed Illinois.

Today, September 15th, 2009, nearly one-hundred (100) people gathered in Chicago, Illinois to demonstrate their support for S 604, the bill before the Senate to Audit the Federal Reserve.

Our group also helped to deliver over 1,050 petitions urging Senator Richard J. Durbin, representing the people of the state of Illinois, to cosponsor S 604 and to seek roll call votes for the bill.

We marched on the sidewalks of downtown Chicago and reached out to the denizens and passers-by there, many of whom were highly receptive to our message of auditing the Federal Reserve. Some people agreed and signed the petitions, some people just talked, many people accepted the literature, many people expressed some level of agreement, some people joined us for a while, others applauded and smiled as we marched by.

One man honked and made an obscene gesture directed at me. It seemed almost like deja vu.

As we passed by the Death Star itself, the Chicago Federal Reserve, the security guards there seemed especially uneasy with our very temporary presence nearby. I couldn't imagine why.

PART II, the Springfield Connection

Some twenty-five (25) concerned citizens showed their support for this important legislation in Springfield, Illinois today. The group there delivered an impressive two-thousand (2,0000) petitions in support of S 604, to Audit the Fed, to the offices of Senator Richard J. Durbin. What a feat!

That means that over 3,000 petition signatures of his constituents were delivered to Senator Richard J. Durbin today, September 15th. That means that about one-hundred and twenty-five (125) of his constituents took it upon themselves today to volunteer to advocate for an idea.

That idea is S 604, "the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009", which would require a full audit of the Fed and reveal its agreements with foreign central banks and foreign governments. According to polls, 75% of the American people would support auditing the Fed and publicly reporting the results of the audit.

Audit the Fed Illinois also delivered a volume of petitions to Senator Roland W. Burris today. A total of 850+ petition signatures urging the senator to cosponsor S 604 were delivered to his offices in Chicago and Springfield.

I want to offer my sincere thanks to all of the people who made this all happen. What an amazing rally for such a common-sense measure.

Ryan, Chris, Lisa, Doug, Heather, John, Paul, Wayne, Scott, Steve (all three of you), Savannah, Bob, Saad, Gary, Joe, Greg, Terry, Jeff, the list just goes on and on. If I left anyone out, I'm sure that you will understand---I got so much help from so many friends that it's hard to enumerate all of their contributions (even in the smallest of ways).

What we did is uncommon and extraordinary. We have much to be proud of.

A note on our First Amendment rights

As you may be aware of, Steve and I were briefly detained (not arrested) by Department of Homeland Security officers recently--for the crime of attempted political free speech on "federal property".

It was a personal struggle for me to mentally overcome that outrageous run-in with our open police state. It didn't help that we made a mistake on our applications to the various governmental bureaucracies when applying for our permit to assemble in Chicago today for our rally.

But we persevered. We improvised and made the right call. We were able to meet the challenge and make a strong yet peaceful statement today. Our message was "Audit the Fed" (also, "NO MORE BAILOUT$!").

We'll be expecting some kind of sign from our senators in the near future that they received our message and the message of the constituents' petitions that we delivered today--across the state of Illinois. We'll probably have to give their offices a call and remind them.

Mark my words, this is only the beginning. I will be taking a break and recharging--and coming back with a vengeance. In the meantime, now would be a good time to make that call to your senators in support of S 604 that you've been meaning to make.

A great speech by Doug was given at our rally. I think that he described very well the essence of the Audit the Fed movement.

Fed Reserve Audit

A public protest at Springfield's Old State Capitol Tuesday was not for change, but rather disclosure.
Ralliers with Campaign For Liberty are calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve.
The event was held to raise public awareness for "S" 604, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009.
It's ironic because the protest calls for greater transparency by the Federal Reserve.
Campaign For Liberty claims the Fed devalued our monetary unity by 95% since its inception in 1913.
Since then, the Fed has allegedly refused to disclose which banks and wall street firms received trillions of dollars and loans.
The group claims this warrants a public audit.
Protests were also held outside the Springfield senate offices of Roland Burris and Dick Durbin calling for both to support greater transparency by the Fed.
Similar rallies were said to be held in Chicago and other cities across the country.

Today, thousands of C4L members will be delivering petitions to their senators' local offices urging them to cosponsor and push for a standalone floor vote on S 604, the Senate version of Audit the Fed.

Meanwhile, C4L national staff and several grassroots volunteers are delivering over 100,000 petitions to Capitol Hill.

Many local C4L groups have invited area media to cover their petition drops and rallies.  I look forward to seeing the stories!

Please leave any experiences or thoughts from the day's action under this thread.  And don't forget, if you can't make it out to a drop, it's never too late to call, fax, and write Congress!

Sept. 10th, 2009, Chicago, Illinois -- Two concerned citizens were briefly detained by Department of Homeland Security officers for the crime of filming in a public location and attempting to document the actions of public officials, having political signs in their possession on "Federal property", and attempting to deliver the petitions of Illinois residents to the offices of our U.S. Senators. They were subsequently released and were free to go after the brief, but outrageous episode.

Your hard work in this historic movement to Audit the Fed continues to pay off!

Thanks to the thousands of Campaign for Liberty members who have tirelessly dedicated themselves to spreading the word, gathering petitions, and putting continuous pressure on Congress by calling, writing, and faxing, Congressman Ron Paul informed C4L today that House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank has officially agreed to hold hearings on HR 1207! The hearings are tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 25 at 9:00 am.

Your efforts have resulted in Washington's most secretive institution having to defend itself before the media, the American people, and now at a House hearing specifically focused on transparency.

This exciting victory is only one more achievement in a battle that we must see through until the end.

Contact your representative and senators and urge them to cosponsor HR 1207/S 604 if they have not yet done so. If they signed on, tell them it is imperative that Audit the Fed receive a standalone, up or down vote on its own merits. Full transparency in our nation's monetary system is too important to be a minor footnote in yet another massive Washington bill, and C4L will vigorously oppose any attempts to include HR 1207 in a regulatory reform package that increases the Fed's power over our economy and lives.

Less than a year ago, a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve wasn't on anyone's radar. Now, we have the support of seventy five percent of the American people, almost two thirds of the House of Representatives, nearly a quarter of the Senate, and an official hearing before the House Financial Services Committee!

There will be more exciting information to follow soon, but I wanted you to know right away.  Now is the time to turn the heat up even more.

Together, we will finish this fight!

On the eve of Congress returning to work, there are some important updates regarding Mass Action Month that will go a long way in helping us to succeed in our efforts.

From the office of John Tate:

Here are three ways you can help ensure the success of this Mass Action Event:
1.) Gather petitions – Hit the streets! Make sure your senators hear from as many people in your state as possible. Let's spread the word and add to the seventy-five percent of Americans who support our cause. You can download petitions at CampaignforLiberty.com and AuditTheFed.com.
2.) Call your senators – Starting Tuesday, September 8, C4L members will be calling their senators' offices to urge them to cosponsor S 604. Our objective is to keep their phones ringing off the hook by having members call every day for the week leading up to the petition drop. Commit to calling your senators by signing up here.
3.) Show up on September 15 - Congress counts on grassroots activists being content with just calling and sending petitions. To make sure they get our message that it's time to Audit the Fed, we're going to take our cause right to their offices in person. These events will be as effective as you make them. Show your senators that you are serious about real reform by rallying with your fellow members right outside their offices.

As you know, the state of Illinois has been divided into 3 regions for the purposes of Mass Action Month, with 2 rally locations for Mass Action Day. Our project leads for this effort are: Northern Illinois - Justin Kapacinskas; Central Illinois - Greg Bishop; and Southern Illinois - Jeff Covington. If you would like to volunteer to help out with the planning and implementation of activities leading to Mass Action Day, please contact the project lead in your region by clicking on their names.

Our Chicago Rally will begin at 2:30 PM at Federal Plaza. For those interested in participating in a petition drive prior to the rally, members will be meeting at 12:00 PM at Federal Plaza and will head over to the Financial District to gather more signatures and attract more people to the rally. Beginning at 2:30, we will have speakers, and then at 4:00 PM sharp, designated teams will deliver our petitions to both Senator's Durbin and Burris. Please be sure to RSVP by following this link.

Our Springfield Rally will begin at 3:30pm from the Old State Capital State Historic site in Springfield, Illinois. Members of the Campaign for Liberty, and anyone in the general public that would like to march for an Audit of the Federal Reserve, will meet for a short rally. This is just outside of Senator Roland Burris' office in Downtown Springfield. After a few short words from local Campaign for Liberty Members about the importance for transparency and openness of the Federal Reserve, stacks of constituents signatures urging Senator Burris to support S 604 (The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act) will be delivered to the Springfield Office. Participants will then march south on 6th street down to Jackson Street turning east, towards South 8th Street, and south to Senator Durbin's office. Please be sure to RSVP by following this link.

To ensure ultimate impact with this event, it is imperative that we all get involved. Don't forget, the person in each state that gathers the most signatures on their petitions will receive signed copies of Dr. Paul's latest book, End the Fed, and a pocket Constitution! The state gathering the most petitions will win a $1,500 shopping spree to the Campaign for Liberty store. Let's win that prize!

Be sure to sign up for a calling slot so we are sure to keep the staff of each Senator busy hearing about S 604 every 5 minutes of every working day until our rallies.

See you at the rallies!

Yesterday, Saturday, September 5th, fifty-four (54) total signatures were collected on our S 604 petitions to help persuade senators Durbin/Burris to cosponsor the Audit the Fed bill. Also, 400+ Audit the Fed fact sheets / flyers promoting our 9/15 Chicago rally were distributed to denizens of Chicago, Illinois.

Five gentlemen participated in the event. Ryan, Paul D., Wayne, Dave, and myself met outside of the Art Institute of Chicago and worked to spread the word about auditing the Fed. Later in the day, a few of us walked over to the studios of ABC 7 Chicago and tried to communicate our efforts to the media as they did their nightly broadcast. The media didn't seem interested in our message, but the passers-by on State St. who gathered at ABC 7's window were receptive and accepted many of our handbills.

I'm exhausted!

The Czar Accountability and Reform Act of 2009, introduced in the House by Representative Kingston of Georgia on July 15, 2009, is a badly needed piece of legislation that we should all get behind. The appointment of "Czars" by presidents past and present is an unconstitutional power grab, which takes oversight away from the Congress, as ordered by the Constitution, and puts all power into the hands of the Executive Branch, effectively removing our system of checks and balances.

The appointment of Czars essentially creates a "shadow government", allowing unelected officials to form policy while avoiding public scrutiny through the Constitutionally mandated "advice and consent" of the Senate. These unelected Czars are neither vetted, nor are they required to be accountable for their actions, past or present, to the American people through their elected representatives.

HR 3226 would:

"...provide that appropriated funds may not be used to pay for any salaries or expenses of any task force, council, or similar office which is established by or at the direction of the President and headed by an individual who has been inappropriately appointed to such position (on other than an interim basis), without the advice and consent of the Senate."

This bill would return the power to Congress to properly vet all Presidential appointees, and it would greatly limit the power of the Executive Branch, bringing the separation of powers back in-line with the mandates provided for in our Constitution.

This bill currently sits in the Sub-Committee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement, and has 34 cosponsors. Please call and write your Representatives and demand that they cosponsor this bill.

The following was published in the Daily Herald.

In a recent letter to her constituents, U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert explained that she voted for the expansion of the cash for clunkers program. This is further proof that we have a representative in the 13th district with little to no knowledge of how a healthy economy works, and furthermore that her commitment to the principles of small government is paper thin at best.

Biggert claims in her letter that the stimulus program is not working because the money is sitting idle because the government hasn't figured out a way to spend it and probably wont spend it until the recession is well over. This statement is amazingly contradictory, considering Biggert and much of the Republican Party are quick to attack President Obama for spending us into oblivion with his health care bill.

However, if Rep. Biggert really feels that more spending can solve this recession, then I propose that she take the cash for clunkers program to the next logical step. If more spending is all we need, then a $4,500 rebate is clearly not enough. If we can spend our way to prosperity, then she should immediately introduce legislation to buy every American a new green car. This increase will surely stimulate the economy if spending is all we need.

What Ms. Biggert does not acknowledge is that this recession is a result of the prior stimuli of the Congress that she has served in. Easy credit and reckless spending were a drug to our economy, and Ms. Biggert, members of congress, and the Federal Reserve were the enablers. The solution to our economic woes is increase in savings, not more government stimulus to buy more things we don't need. Such reckless action will only lengthen the recession. Biggert, along with most of our Congress, need to be sent packing.

Last night, August 31st, 2009, a "town hall meeting" was held by Congresswoman Janice Schakowsky (IL-9) in Skokie, Illinois, at the Niles West High School auditorium.

I had planned to attend, but the traffic and parking situation prevented me from arriving on time to be able to enter the event--and many other people faced this same fate. The auditorium was filled to capacity as hundreds of people remained in line outside.

There was pandemonium in the parking lots as they were also filled to capacity, but cars (including the one I was driving) continued to turn in to the lot only to find no vacant parking spaces. Once I cut my losses and exited the parking lot, I noticed that cars were parked on side streets for blocks and blocks. I was relieved to finally find a place to park on a side street about six or seven blocks away. I noticed that many people had given up trying to get into the event and were heading back to their cars as I made my way toward the high school.

I was able to make the most of the situation, despite not being able to communicate in person with my representative in Congress.

Over the course of the evening, I, along with Scott D., Steve, Monika, Brian, Michael L., Riley, and later Marty P. took the initiative to petition for S 604 to Audit The Fed and to distribute S 604 literature and flyers promoting our 9/15 Chicago Audit The Fed Rally to the hundreds of people who remained outside for the duration of the event.

By the end of the night, we gathered fifty-one (51) and twenty-seven (27) signatures, respectively, on our petitions urging Senator Richard J. Durbin and Senator Roland W. Burris to cosponsor S 604 and to seek roll call votes for the bill.

The crowd that remained outside of the auditorium during the event created an almost carnival-like atmosphere with their signs, flags, handbills, petitions, and chanting. Cars and trucks driving by on Oakton Street sometimes honked and waved. Emotions often ran high as the contentious issue of the proposed government-run "health care reform" bill was debated, argued, and discussed amongst opposing groups that were obviously on-hand to express either their support or opposition for the unconstitutional legislation.

I was pleased to see such vast interest in representative government, but I was also concerned that the majority of people on hand for the event seemed to favor what looks to be a nationalized "health care" scheme that will grant the federal government entirely too much power over our lives and, frankly, over our physical bodies.

However, there was a vocal and visible presence of those of us who would favor free market solutions to the real or perceived problems with the current four-party health care system here in the United States. This group, which staunchly opposed the "health care reform" bill in the exercise of their freedom of speech, consisted mostly of self-described conservatives, libertarians, and independents.

With at least a few hundred people persisting, the opposing groups eventually took up positions on either side of the drive directly in front of the auditorium. A police car would, from time to time, drive up and down the lane to separate the two groups as they clashed in a struggle to prove to each other, and to anyone in the immediate vicinity who was interested, which group was the loudest and most impassioned for their cause.

After speaking to many of the folks who favor the government coming in to run "health care" in this country, I understand that they are mainly well-meaning people. Unfortunately, I think that most of them are poorly informed about the true origins and nature of the four-party health care system and, thus, the problems and inadequacies inherent with the system.

Many left-liberals and conservatives that I spoke to agreed with the idea of auditing the Federal Reserve--while others were completely unaware of either the existence of the Fed, the effort to Audit it, and/or the nature and origins of the Fed. We seized the opportunity to educate as many people as we could, whether on the left or on the "right", of the oft-times deleterious impact of the Fed's monetary policy on the economy and the hidden tax of inflation.

I tried to use the Audit The Fed issue to illustrate a central talking point of mine--that our house is out of order here (what with the taxpayer being robbed blind by the Federal Reserve and their Wall Street cronies--to name just one of the crises facing our republic) and we need to get that fixed first before we talk about such Big Ideas as bringing in governmental angels to manage our health care system.

Below are some videos from the event that illustrate the contentious nature of the goings-on outside of the town hall meeting last night.

This woman was upset that the person she was accosting would dare portray Mr. Obama in a negative light--in this case comparing the president to Adolph Hitler. Just before I clicked the record button on my camcorder, she had said something to the effect that the guy had no right to intimate such a thing and that he should be arrested for exercising his right to free speech.

Here is some raw footage of the melee outside of the event.

I interviewed Campaign for Liberty Cook County Coordinator Scott Davis after all was said and done to recap the event for the viewers at home.

Later in the evening, after almost everyone had cleared out of the area, We Are Change Chicago made an exclusive guest appearance on Fox News Chicago with some of our signs.

UPDATE: Here is Scott Troogstad's speech in its entirety. He was the very last audience speaker of the evening. His microphone was cut after the first paragraph.

I want to start by stating for the record that I was not sent here by an insurance lobby, a neo-con organization or Fox news. In fact, I'm not even a Republican, I do not recognize the 2 party farce. Who I am is an American that believes strongly in the principals upon which this great nation was founded. I came to exercise my God given & constitutionally guaranteed right to speak freely & demand redress. I have called your office, sent letters & petitions concerning everything from your support of the banker bailouts, to cap & trade, to your constant assaults on the 2nd amendment. There has been no redress. I'm also aware that holding these beliefs near to my heart would classify me as a "right-wing extremist" or "domestic terrorist" in the eyes of our homeland security "czar." I find it quite disturbing that dissent, the very thing our nation was founded on, is now being classified as "terrorism" & though I am not surprised, this government is playing a dangerous game that may very well leave them with blood on their hands. -

It's quite clear that the policy makers & opinion crafters have resorted to fear mongering & the age old trick of divide & conquer, making all things a left - right, black-white issue, all the while trying to divert attention away from the real power structure of this country. These tactics are failing, the curtain has been pulled back & the game has been exposed. It has become blatantly obvious to anyone willing to paying attention, that this government, regardless of administration, is no longer beholden to WE THE PEOPLE, but instead a criminal cartel of international bankers, corporate elitists & never a ending stream of special interest groups. Cause a PROBLEM, incite a REACTION & purpose a SOLUTION, the same story over & over again. The only thing I want from my government is to be left alone & that includes rejecting your eugenics laden health care program. Nowhere in the constitution does it grant the authority to forcibly steal the fruits of my labor & fund a constant welfare/warfare state, hell-bent on destroying my freedoms & the future of my posterity. Our children, parents & grandparents have spent the last 100 years fighting & dying in wars against the very thing that this country is morphing into. Socialism is much too kind, this is Fascism by definition. Anyone that knows their history will recognize where this is going & I believe that I speak for millions of Americans when I say that this will not be tolerated.

It's time for the rats to jump ship. The jig is up & the line in the sand has been drawn. It's time for all of you to decide if you're going to continue to advance the agenda of your globalist puppet masters or stand with the people that you claim to represent. We both took an oath to uphold & defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign & domestic; you have failed. I thoroughly believe that the greatest threat to our Republic resides within the halls of D.C. This is no less than a monumental battle of ..Liberty.. vs. Tyranny & should the light of liberty be extinguished in ....America...., the world may never see it again. In my eyes this is not an option & I will uphold my oath at all costs.

From the office of John Tate:

"As many of you may have heard by now, recent statements from Representative Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, have indicated that the House will vote on Audit the Fed in the next few months.

However, rather than voting on HR 1207 as a standalone bill, many in Congress hope to roll it into the comprehensive regulatory reform package recently proposed by the White House.

This reform package grants new, more comprehensive powers to the Fed and strengthens the government's control over our economy. C4L and other friends of liberty stand in opposition to this proposal, as well as any other attempt to convert this historic movement for transparency into yet another rubber-stamping of politics as usual.

It is imperative that Audit the Fed come before the House and Senate on its own merits."

Three-fourths of Americans now support this audit as it stands, and we must demand that it is passed unadulterated.

If your Representative has co-sponsored HR 1207, demand that they pass the bill on it's own merits in it's current form.

If your Representative has NOT co-sponsored HR 1207, demand that they get on board and pass the bill on it's own merits in it's current form.

Dear Friends of Liberty,

A couple of weeks ago, the National Campaign for Liberty staff announced plans for Thirty Days of Action leading up to a nation-wide Mass Action Day on September 15. Since the announcement was made, Illinois members have been busy planning for our Springfield and Chicago Rallies, gathering signatures on petitions at the State and County Fairs and other venues, attending local Town Hall meetings, and ensuring that all Illinois residents know what the Audit the Fed bill is.

There is still plenty of work to be done. From now until September 15, we need everyone to continue gathering signatures on their petitions, which can be found here,  spread the word about the rallies, and plan to take the afternoon off to attend the rally nearest you. Remember, the person collecting the most S 604 signatures on petitions will receive a copy of Dr. Paul's new book, "End the Fed", as well as a Pocket Constitution, both autographed by Dr. Paul. Be sure to make copies of your petitions so everyone gets proper credit! The state that collects the most signatures will receive a $1,500 shopping spree from the C4L online store, so let's put our best foot forward and bring home that prize!

If you are interested in helping organize these events, please contact the Project Lead in your area; they could use as much support as we can give them.

Justin Kapacinskas is our Northern Illinois Project lead, Greg Bishop is leading the charge in Central Illinois, and Jeff Covington is leading the effort in Southern Illinois.

As previously mentioned, our September 15 Rallies will take place in Chicago and Springfield. The Springfield Rally will begin at 3:00 PM outside of Senator Roland Burris' office, at 607 East Adams. We will have a few speakers present, and then we will deliver our petitions. From Senator Burris' office, we will march to Senator Durbin's office, at  525 South 8th Street. The exact march route can be found here.

Petitions should be dropped in the mail by September 10 if you are unable to attend a rally. Please follow the links above to your project lead to find the address where you should send your petitions.

With the unexpected outcry from our fellow Americans over Health Care Reform, finding willing participants for the rallies should not be difficult. Be sure to bring your cameras so we can document the events!

Find more information on Audit the Fed here.

Follow Audit the Fed Illinois on Facebook and Twitter.

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski and Doug Bach

Interim Illinois State Co-Coordinators

This would be a great opportunity to learn more about the health care system, hear your congressman speak on health care, and to get Campaign for Liberty's name out.

WLS AM radio is hosting a town hall event that is bringing together our representative Peter Roskam, representative Danny Davis, and various health care industry professionals to discuss problems/solutions for the healthcare system. You can submit your questions in advance at the above link.

Hurry up and buy yourself a C4L t-shirt, print up some handouts, and find your way to the town hall meeting.

Take some videos and pictures. I'd love to see some C4L t-shirts scattered throughout the crowd!

Follow the instuctions on the WLS web page to  recieve your invite. The event takes place on Tuesday, September 1st, from 7:00 to 9:00pm.

Dear Friends of Liberty,

Six short months ago, Congressman Ron Paul introduced HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. Since that time, the Illinois Grassroots has met the challenge of educating our neighbors by holding petition drives, manning booths at local events, writing letters to the editor and arranging meetings with our Representatives or their staff. We have seen great rewards for all of our hard work, as 75% of Americans now support this audit. Given that most Americans didn’t care about the Fed at this time last year, this is an incredible victory.

As if gaining the support of 75% of Americans is not enough, Illinois activists have also won the support of 13 of our 19 Representatives. With six Democrats and 7 Republicans from Illinois cosponsoring this bill, we can loudly proclaim bipartisan support in our state.

The time has now come to shift gears and take aim at the Senate. Introduced in the Senate by Bernard Sanders (I-VT), S 604, The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009, is the sister bill to HR 1207. Over the next 30 days, Campaign for Liberty members across the country will be taking action to shine a light on those Senators who have not yet cosponsored this legislation. Our mission is to expose those who do not support the transparency of the Fed, and apply enough pressure to bring them on board. When we succeed, we can move this debate to a whole new level - the floor of the House and Senate, with millions of Americans paying attention!

To make the greatest impact, we need every Illinois Patriot to take action, and I am not just referring to Campaign for Liberty members. With 75% of Americans supporting a full audit of the Fed, we need to open our doors and include them in this effort. Some of those that support the audit may not agree with us on every issue, so to make them feel comfortable in helping with this effort, the Campaign for Liberty has set up a new website, AudittheFed.com where people of all persuasions will feel comfortable visiting and mobilizing.

As we learn of events where our Senators will appear over the next 30 days, they will be added to the Illinois Profile and calendar. We need representation at every event, gathering signatures on our petitions, and diplomatically pressing our Senators about their lack of support for transparency of the Fed. In addition to that, we need booths at every local event so you can continue to gather signatures and find supporters who will be willing to assist us with our efforts in the final week of Mass Action Month. No time to plan a booth? Show up with your petitions anyway and work the crowd! We need members to record our efforts, blog about them, write letters to the editor, call local radio shows and make certain that every American is aware of S 604.

In order to assure ultimate impact, we are dividing Illinois into 3 regions, with a Project Lead in each region. Our Northern Illinois Project Lead will be Justin Kapacinskas, Greg Bishop will organize the efforts of Central Illinois, and Jeff Covington will lead in Southern Illinois. They can use all the help you are willing to give, so please contact them and volunteer for a lead role in this effort!

Getting our Illinois Senators on board S 604 should be reward enough, but just to make things interesting, the person that gathers the most signatures on S 604 petitions will not only win our respect, gratitude and admiration, they will also win a Campaign for Liberty silver coin and a pocket Constitution bearing Congressman Ron Paul’s autograph. But wait! That’s not all! The state collecting the most signatures (as a percentage of population) will win a $1,500.00 gift certificate to the Campaign for Liberty store.

Beginning on September 8, until we deliver petitions on September 15, our Senators will be greeted by a steady stream of calls, every 5 minutes, of every working day.   We need a minimum of 480 callers for each Senator in order to keep their staffers busy answering calls about S 604 for 5 straight days. Over the next month, we all need to sign up on the website for a time-slot. Talking points will be provided by National, and you will receive an email the day of your scheduled call as a reminder. I don’t know about you, but I sure wish I could be a fly on the wall of those offices during those very intense 5 days!

Finally, as if the previously mentioned plans are not exciting enough, on Tuesday, September 15 at 4:00 P.M. local time, Liberty Lovers across the nation will be handing stacks of petitions over to local Senatorial offices.

Audit the Fed Rallies are being planned for Springfield and Chicago on September 15, leading up to the handoff of our petitions. Details for these events are still being worked out, so please check our State Profile and Calendar often for updates. Imagine having hundreds of supporters present when we deliver the thousands of petitions we have worked so hard to collect! Our project leads are working hard to organize these events, attract local media, and ensure that Senators Durbin and Burris hear the message that we demand an audit of the Fed loud and clear! Our project leads are searching for other leaders to assist them in the planning of this effort, so please be sure to contact them and volunteer. We will need people to speak to the Senator’s staff, record the event, speak with the local media, coordinate our efforts with other groups who support an audit of the Fed, and blog about all of our efforts.

The time to act is now, and with enough effort on our parts, we can push for a vote on this legislation! We’ve all worked hard to bring sunlight to this issue, and the reward for all of our efforts is near. Let’s put Illinois on the map, and ensure the biggest turn-out in the nation for Mass Action Day! You’ve worked hard for months, you deserve the recognition!

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski and Doug Bach

This is a handbill that I designed to advertise the "Audit The Fed" Rally in Chicago on September 15, 2009. Please feel free to use it, along with the other handbills that I have designed, to promote this event.

I will be using it in conjunction with the fact sheet found on AuditTheFed.com to promote the event this weekend in Chicago, Illinois. I will be creating half-sheet doubled-side fliers to distribute widely.

Please join us this weekend, Saturday, August 29th, to petition for S 604 and to help promote this event in Chicago, Illinois.

I would be happy to create a similar broadsheet for the Audit The Fed event to be held in Springfield, Illinois on the same date.

Audit The Fed!

As always, if you would like to help organize this important event (I could really use the help of local, regional, and county coordinators to call the C4L members in your area to rally their support--especially in the Chicago area and vicinity), please contact me, and/or please submit your comments, suggestions, criticisms, and questions below. Your participation is welcomed and appreciated!

Now is the time to get involved!

Also, the fact is that some of these efforts require money to accomplish (such as printing a volume of handbills or making signs or applying for First Amendment permits). So, please, if you are so inclined, please contact myself or Greg Bishop, who is organizing the Springfield event, to contribute to these efforts to make as strong a statement as possible in the state of Illinois on September 15th.

I am very happy to officially announce that right here in Bloomington IL, we have secured none other than Michael Badnarik, a highly renowned Constitutional expert and former presidential candidate, to speak at a major event our local Campaign For Liberty organization is hosting. The event is called "Freedom Night" and takes place on Friday, September 18th at the Lafayette Club in Bloomington. Freedom Night includes Avanti's catering, a lively liberty-minded singer from Michigan, and a variety of other top-notch speakers. Tickets will be available this coming Monday!

This is our biggest event to date and we definitely need your help spreading the word. In the coming days, I will be sending out / posting the event flyer, asking each of you to help distribute to all friends, family, and  neighbors. Until then, please check out the draft version of our new website (used to market the event) at www.McLeanC4L.com! If you can do more, please call me or email me and ask how you can help.

P.S. Michael Badnarik will also be holding his highly acclaimed "Constitution Class" the following day, Saturday September 19th. More info on that to come. Please check out this video of Michael talking about the Constitution.

To raise public awareness of S 604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009 (which is the companion bill in the U.S. Senate to HR 1207 to Audit the Fed!), a rally is being planned for September 15th. The rally is also meant to generate publicity in the local media and bring pressure to bear on our U.S. Senators from Illinois, Senator Richard J. Durbin and Senator Roland W. Burris to cosponsor S 604 and to explain their respective positions on the bill.

The Springfield Rally will begin at 3:30pm from the Old State Capital State Historic site in Springfield, Illinois.

Please see the calendar entry here, and contact Greg Bishop to volunteer here.

The Chicago Rally will begin at noon and go until 5:00. The rallying point is still being determined as we are still waiting on the permits needed. The tentative plan is to start in Chicago at 12PM, do a sidewalk march, distribute literature and gather S 604 petition signatures, have speeches, present our petitions to Senator Durbin's and Senator Burris' offices at 4PM, and then carry on until 5PM so that we can reach the lunch crowd as well as the after-work crowd in downtown Chicago. Please see the calendar entry here to RSVP; it will be updated soon with further details. Please contact Justin Kapacinskas here to volunteer to help with the effort.

Find us on Facebook here, and on Twitter here.  Be sure to visit AuditTheFed.com and sign the petition, download literature, and learn useful information about the issue, including those who support it, and those who need to be inspired.

Poll: Will you be attending a Rally on Sept. 15 calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve?

Yes! I wouldn't miss it for the world!
No, an audit of the Fed is a dumb idea.
I would love to be there, but I'm not sure I can make it.

Every single day I learn from someone about another awesome website created with Liberty in mind.  So I thought a search engine focused on websites that are pro-liberty would assist the way us C4Lers use the web.  Google has a great Custom Search Engine feature, which I am adding sites to.

Give it a try and let me know what you think and any sites that you think should be added.

It is entitled "Search for Liberty"; A Search Engine for Liberty-minded people.

http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=003042018248556586402%3Aipammenhwh4

Poll: Will you use this Search Engine?

Absolutely! I might even set it as my Homepage.
I might use it on occasion.
Nah, probably not. I prefer useless search results when researching issues.
No! Google is the devil.
I have the right to remain silent and I intend to use it.

We are initiating our plans to organize an Audit the Fed Rally in both Chicago and Springfield on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009. Tentatively, the events will serve a manifold purpose--to raise public awareness of the debate (or lack thereof) about Auditing the Fed, to educate our fellow citizens regarding HR 1207 and S 604 and the nature and origins of the Federal Reserve, to attract local media attention, and finally to take action in delivering our thousands of S 604 petitions to the offices of Senator Richard J. Durbin and Senator Roland W. Burris.

We will make a concerted and organized effort to persuade our senators from Illinois to cosponsor the legislation and to seek roll call votes for the bill--or at least respond to the petitions of their constituents and explain their respective positions on the bill.

Please contact me if you are interested in helping to organize this important event.

Our vehicle for accomplishing all of that, along with Campaign for Liberty and the recently announced coalition website, AuditTheFed.com, will be a new group called Audit the Fed Illinois, which is a transpartisan coalition for greater transparency, fiscal responsibility, and accountability.

Audit the Fed Illinois is now on Facebook and Twitter. Please spread the word and join these social networking groups. I think that we're going to make an big impact if we can combine our efforts to Audit the Fed on a statewide scale--and this is your chance to be a part of something that could be an historic event. It's now or never! GET INVOLVED!

MISSION STATEMENT

Audit the Fed Illinois is a group for activists and concerned citizens in the state of Illinois who favor auditing the Federal Reserve Banking System. A recent Rasmussen Reports survey suggests that 75% of the American people would favor auditing the Federal Reserve and publicly reporting the results of the audit.

HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, is supported by 282 cosponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives (a bipartisan majority). More than 2,000 petition signatures have already been gathered in Illinois in support of S 604, the Senate version of HR 1207, and we intend to substantially increase that number.

The Audit the Fed movement is a peaceful, non-violent, non-partisan, grassroots-volunteer movement. We intend to send letters, call, fax, and email our representatives and senators, write letters to the editor, call in to talk radio shows, participate in petition drives, and exercise our First Amendment rights to free speech, freedom of assembly, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The goal of our group is to educate our fellow citizens about the Federal Reserve and to advocate for the enactment of HR 1207 / S 604. The legislation will, when passed into law, require a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve and reveal its agreements with foreign central banks and foreign governments.

Support HR 1207 and S 604 to Audit the Fed. Call Congress at (202) 224-3121 and urge your representative and senators to cosponsor and support HR 1207 and S 604 to Audit the Fed!

In recent days, a pair of protests was held outside of Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson's Joliet office regarding the impending national health care legislation. Rep. Halvorson is reportedly out of the country thus was unable to attend either event. Here's a video of one of the protests posted at Illinois Review.

One of Rep. Halvorson's challengers, Bloomington Republican Adam Kinzinger, is hosting a series of health care town hall meetings in the coming days. SEE FULL SCHEDULE HERE

Please consider attending one of these events and passing the word to like-minded friends and acquaintances. Real dialogue and public education on this critical issue are desperately needed . . . that means adding YOUR voice to the debate!

Folks, you've done a great job spreading the word about Audit the Fed.  We've come a long way in demonstrating to the nation that monetary policy is a critical issue, and every day more and more people are waking up to the harm that the Fed has caused our economy.

But we've still got aways to go: there are more people to educate, more signatures to collect, and more work to be done to combat the "big guns" that have come out against HR 1207. That's why we've taken the next step in our efforts by launching AuditTheFed.com, a focused, coalition website with one purpose: to pass the Audit the Fed bill.  Digg the site here.

This website was designed to put you, the liberty-loving activist, in a position to efficiently and effectively promote Audit the Fed to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike.  We hope that you find it useful in spreading the word about the central bank's secrecy.

Stay tuned for more from Campaign for Liberty.

Local Campaign For Liberty members, Matt Ervin, Tom Morgan, Barbara Orwig (all pictured), former Bloomington Mayoral Candidate Eric DeCosas, and C4L members Carol Rogers and Donny Herrin (not pictured), partcipated in a petition drive this past weekend at a local Wal Mart store in Normal, Il, opposing pending legislation on the health care bill  and in support of the pending legislation to audit the Federal Reserve.

It was a very positive event for the most part. While the slowing economy limited  shoppers, C4L gained the signatures of nearly 70 concerned citizens on both petitions. More importantly, we learned and witnessed the concern and passion that both republican and democrats have for the state of our economy, obviously the disdain for government-controlled health care, and that these  citizens are unhappy with elected representatives.

Future similar events are being planned as we continue to defend liberty and allow citizens the opportunity to become active participants in not only our government process, but with Campaign For Liberty.

In a move usually reserved for elected politicians, members of the Federal Reserve Board are holding "listening sessions".  Chairman Ben Bernanke recently attended one in Kansas City and made his case for how tough his job is - poor guy.

NEXT STOP: Decatur, IL on August 15

The date was announced at a meeting of the Central Illinois Organizing Project.

A member of the Project, Rev. Robert Bushey, associate pastor of Central Christian Church tells members of his church that "...board members can still redeem themselves by listening to the concerns of the citizenry and acting upon them".

Redeem themselves?  (Ed. - How about a full audit - that would "redeem" them)

See the article in the Herald & Review and watch your local news for Fed stumping antics coming to a town near you.

Poll: Should you attend a so-called Fed "listening session" in order to keep the Fed honest in their communication with citizens?

No, let the "sheeple" believe what they want to believe
No, I'm afraid to be in the same room with the Fed
Yes, I'll be there listening
Yes, and I'll be there asking questions
I have no clue

Yesterday the White house launched a campaign to combat "disinformation" regarding the Health Care Debate by urging supporters to forward "fishy" information and e-mails to flag@whitehouse.gov.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Below is a letter in response to this new program from Texas Senator John Cornyn asking President Obama to suspend this program and explain his actions.

Dear Senator Burris,

I would like to urge you to cosponsor S604, The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009.

As you are aware, this country is mired in an economic crisis the likes of which has not been seen since the Great Depression. This meltdown was first recognized during the waning days of the Bush administration, and the first bailout was passed, giving the Federal Reserve and Treasury the power to dole out incredible sums of tax-payer money with no Congressional oversight.

The Federal Reserve has never been subject to a full audit, despite the fact that they are an independent bank. Since it's inception in 1913, the Federal Reserve, while claiming that it's primary objective is to keep inflation in check has seen the value of the dollar fall by over 95%. The Federal Reserve has failed miserably in it's objectives, and despite this fact, the current administration is proposing giving MORE power to the Central Bank, further eroding the system of checks and balances that our Founders envisioned, and removing the powers that the Congress is meant to hold.

Being a servant of the people of the state of Illinois is not an easy job, and I am certain that you take that responsibility seriously. Recent polls suggest that no less than 75% of Americans support S. 604, a full audit of the Federal Reserve. It is the peoples money that is being spent so callously by the Federal Reserve, and the people have a right to know where each dollar is going.

An open and transparent government was promised by our Founders, it was promised during the last election cycle, and it is an integral component of a free society. The Federal Reserve is not a branch of our government, yet it has the power to spend, inflate and control the people's money without having to justify their actions to the people who suffer the consequences of their decisions.

As your tenure as a U.S. Senator winds down, you have a golden opportunity to represent your constituents by cosponsoring S 604. Your legacy would include the proof that you stand with the 75% of Americans who want nothing more than transparency and an accounting for how their hard-earned money is spent.

Please cosponsor S 604, and urge your colleagues in the Senate to do the same.

Respectfully Submitted,

Heather Danielowski

In a largely unnoticed vote late last week, 13 small government-conservatives backed legislation that could facilitate the emergence of major government-run health care entities.

In an exquisite political irony, 13 Republicans on the House Education and Labor Committee offered their support for an amendment that allowed states to set up single-payer health care systems.

Dear Friends of Liberty,

As July 2009 winds down, it is good to reflect on the progress we have made, and plan out our goals for the rest of the year. This month has been an incredible one for us, with membership growing by leaps and bounds, momentum building by hosting events and meetings across the state, and liberty activists in every Illinois region bringing political awareness to their neighbors, family and friends.

In the two weeks since our last update, our membership has grown by 287, with 74 new members creating user accounts, and 2 activists agreeing to become Local Coordinators. For those of you keeping track, this brings our total membership to 6,643, with 1,417 members with user accounts, and 97 Local Coordinators. Welcome to all of the new members! Arming ourselves with the educational tools needed to return sanity to our government is more important now than ever before, and our Local Coordinator training is second to none. If you're not yet a Local Coordinator, please consider taking that step now.

State-Wide Barbecue

On Saturday, July 25, members from across the state gathered for our first State-Wide Barbecue. A massive storm tore through the state the night before, but that didn't stop us from moving forward with the event. We enjoyed hotdogs and hamburgers, grilled by Local Coordinator, Russell Dill, a members meeting where we discussed our goals for the remainder of the year, and of course, fun activities such as volleyball, frisbee, and a playground for the young at heart. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this event a huge success!

Upcoming Events

The State Fair is just around the corner, and Coordinators Terry Jack and Greg Bishop are working to ensure that the Campaign for Liberty will be represented there. They will be armed with Campaign for Liberty literature, merchandise, and of course, Audit the Fed and Health Care petitions. A planning meeting will be held at Diamond's Buffet off of MacArthur Blvd. in Springfield on Tuesday, August 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Please contact Terry or Greg if you are interested in helping with this event.

On September 12, liberty lovers from across the country will be marching on Washington D.C. The Campaign for Liberty has joined forces with many other organizations across the country to proclaim in one loud voice that we're fed up and we're not going to take it anymore! Please check out the State Calendar for more information about the schedules, important links, and information about transportation.

For those unable to attend the march in Washington, please consider hosting Tea Parties right here at home. These Tea Parties are the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, get petitions signed, and demonstrate our numbers and our resolve.

National Issues

Audit the Fed: A new Rasmussen Poll suggests that 3 of 4 Americans support an Audit of the Federal Reserve. Due to the efforts of members across the country, this bill is now finally receiving the recognition it deserves. Although this issue is finally seeing media attention, and the majority of our Representatives have cosponsored HR 1207, our work on this is not quite done. Friday, July 31, we will be focusing our efforts on calling Congressman Gutierrez. Whether you live in his District or not, please take a moment to call his Washington office. In addition to that, please continue to gather signatures on your petitions, and call and write your legislators.

Health Care Reform: Many in Washington are now saying that Congress will leave for their August recess without bringing Health Care Reform to the floor for a vote. While this inaction would certainly be a welcome reprieve, past experience proves that we can't let our guard down. Please see this link for important steps you can take NOW to fight the current Health Care Reform plans, and learn about the steps Congress SHOULD be taking to reform the system. In the event that Congress convenes without voting, please continue bringing the truth of this issue to your neighbors. Attend any Town Halls that our Legislators are holding, write letters to the editor, and be sure to have petitions available at your local events.

Petitions, legislative information, and Illinois news can be found on the State Profile.

Be sure to follow the Illinois Campaign for Liberty on Twitter!

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski and Doug Bach

Thanks to grassroots efforts around the country, HR 2749, the so-called Food Safety Act of 2009, failed to pass through a special parliamentary procedure that limited debate but required a higher percentage vote (2/3 of the House) in order to pass.

But now is not the time to celebrate.  The margin of victory was only 7 votes, and a simple majority vote can come as early as tomorrow (that's Thursday, the 29th).

Please take the time to contact your congressman AGAIN to voice your opposition over HR 2749 and the attempts to rush this unjust bill through without debate.

This just in from the National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association (NICFA):

VOTE on HR 2749 POSSIBLE TUESDAY.  CALL TODAY.

HR 2749, the All Industrial Agriculture bill, could be voted on in the House of Representatives Tuesday.  Please call your Congressman immediately and request that he or she reject this bill.  Normal voting rules have been suspended to try and ram this through, so please call immediately.

This bill will:

  • Mandate NAIS (National Animal Identification System)
  • Allow industrializations of all farms
  • Give the federal government arbitrary power to force any practices they choose on any farm.
  • Allow the federal government to outlaw raw milk

This bill will not create the food safety it claims (it's actually called The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009).  It will make the our food supply less safe by eliminating small farms and centralizing production and processing more than it is already.

ACTION:  Please call your Congressman immediately and ask him or her to vote AGAINST HR2749.
Contact info: http://www.House.gov

There is no amendment that will "fix" this bill.  An amendment proposed by Representative Kaptur has not been accepted and will not fix the problems in this bill anyway.  We want to stop this bill.

Yours for small farms and real food,

Deborah Stockton, Executive Director
National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association (NICFA)
nicfa@earthlink.net
http://www.nicfa.org

Please use our contact Congress page to contact your representatives.  Urge them to vote against HR 2749, the so-called Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009.

Saturday, July 25, the Illinois Campaign for Liberty hosted it's first state-wide barbecue in East Peoria. Despite the fact that many patriots were unable to attend due to a massive thunderstorm that came through the night before, knocking out power, uprooting trees and damaging buildings and homes along it's path, many members still drove hours to attend. By the time members began to arrive, Local Coordinator, Russell Dill, who is the Events Coordinator for our patriots in the central Illinois region, had our shelter all set up with Campaign for Liberty banners and patriotic decor, and of course, the grills were primed and ready for cooking. Russell grills a mean burger, and did a fabulous job of preparing the food.

Members and their families, including 2 members that had joined in the previous 24 hours, enjoyed great conversation, volleyball, frisbee, and a playground for the young at heart. After we ate, we settled into a members meeting where we discussed our goals for the remainder of the year. Many great ideas were shared, and these ideas will be passed on to those members that were unable to attend at their upcoming local meetings.

Our first state-wide barbecue was a huge success, and I look forward to the next one! Many thanks to all who attended, and of course, everyone who contributed their time and energy to ensure a good time was had by all.

Thanks for the pictures Doug!

July 22, 2009

Phone calls to a growing movement of patriots fighting to audit the Federal Reserve went out Wednesday morning from the Campaign for Liberty. The call included a 10 minute recorded message from Congressman Ron Paul and Campaign for Liberty President John Tate. The message was urgent and of utmost priority.

Dr. Paul talked about the growing expansion of the Federal Government by way of more power being handed to the Federal Reserve (a private bank, a "creature" of Congress). "It is going and going ... we must stop the madness," Dr. Paul exclaimed.

The Audit the Fed fight in the senate begins today!

C4L President Tate came on the recording to discuss all the things the movement is aware of: growing debt, more federal powers, looming continued wars, bailouts of failed business etc. "It is at a critical point ... the scope of the disaster" will effect every family in the country ... directly. The mounting debt, according to President Tate, is more than the New Deal, the Iraq debacle, the 80s Savings and Loans mess and the Korean War ... combined!

A vote could come up anytime on the House Floor, and the numbers are there! Nearly 270 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and signed on to audit the Federal Reserve. There is a long fight in the Senate, according to Mr. Tate.

The C4L President said in June, there was 12.8 Trillion in loans and bailouts handed out and in the next few weeks more power will be handed out to the Federal Reserve. Since its inception in 1913, the Federal Reserve has never been fully transparent or accountable to the American people. Meetings, minutes, monetary policy decision, dealings with foreign banks: all these things have been shrouded in secrecy for 96 year!

They will refuse. Why? If an open and full audit of the Federal Reserve shows any malfeasance there will be an anti-Fed firestorm.

Plans are in the works to contact 5 million activists across the country, fire up the meet-ups, get radio, television and newspaper ads and more; to send a message to congress that anyone who votes against an audit of the Federal Reserve better look for a new job!

It is important we act today, because tomorrow the Fed will spend more money and be bestowed more power, becoming more secretive and locked up. Join and donate today: www.CampaignforLiberty.org

I know we have our C4L bar-b-cue scheduled for Saturday, but starting at 5:30 @ the amphitheatre in river front park near down town Alton Il. there will be a freedom rally/ tea party. Speakers are expected to include Bill Hennessey of the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition and Jonathan West, author of "Good-bye, America?"

Robyn Hamlin (MO. State Coordinator) and myself will have A C4L booth set up to collect signatures for HR1207 and S 604 as well as special petitions for Nancy Pelosi.. I will also take this opportunity to recruit new members and spread the word about C4L! I can use all the help I can get, so if you can't make the BBQ and live in the 12th, 17th, or 19th congressional districts (which all come to a point within 20 miles of Alton) please try and make it! It would be greatly appreciated! This will be a great opportunity to recruit new members, think about it, like minded people coming to us!

For Liberty,

Jeff

Campaign for Liberty agrees that America's health care system needs serious reform. We applaud the sentiment shared across the political spectrum that action must be taken and believe that our nation stands at an important crossroads.

Since the inception of managed care in the 1970s, excessive regulation and corporatism have damaged the patient-doctor relationship and driven up consumer costs. The problems we see today are the result of a collusion between big government and big business, not of market failure, and it is critical that instead of moving toward even more government and less freedom, America enact the right reforms to empower consumers and doctors.

Campaign for Liberty will support health care reform solutions that:

• Give Americans control over their health care by giving them control over their health care dollar via tax credits and deductions similar to those outlined in Congressman Ron Paul's Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act (HR 1495).

• Protect privacy rights by allowing patients and physicians to opt-out of any government-mandated or funded system of electronic health care records, and repeal the federal law creating an "unique patient identifier" by adopting the policies contained in Congressman Ron Paul's Protect Patients and Physicians Privacy Act (HR 2630).

• Empower doctors by softening antitrust law restrictions on health care professionals when they negotiate with insurers and medical providers. Our current system gives drug companies and corporate interests all the power.

Campaign for Liberty will oppose any health care reform bill that:

• Raises taxes on any American.

• Forces Americans to purchase a government-approved health insurance plan, imposes fines or tax increases on individuals for failure to purchase health insurance, or conditions the receipt of any government benefit on the purchase or maintenance of health insurance. Instead, Congress should protect Americans from mandatory health insurance by adopting policies like those contained in Congressman Ron Paul's Coercion is Not Health Care Act (HR 2629).

• Establishes a government-run or taxpayer-financed health insurance system. Creation of a "public health insurance option" is a first step toward the complete nationalization of health care. Government-managed and financed health care will inevitability result in lower standards, waiting lines, and rationed care.

Hi everyone!

I wrote a letter to the editor which was posed in Saturday's Panagraph newspaper.

Approve plan for audit of Federal Reserve

In April, Sen. Dick Durbin said the banks "are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place." I applaud the senator for saying this and expect that he will now do something about it.

According to the Constitution, "Congress shall have power to coin money, regulate the value thereof." Unfortunately, Congress has handed over this power to the Bank of the Federal Reserve with few regulating powers over is actions. This means that the bank can print money and give it away without telling the American people where the money went.

Currently, there bills in the House - HR1207 - and the Senate - S604 - that call for a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve. The legislation would legally obligate the bank to tell Congress exactly how much money has been given out - in the trillions - to whom it has been given and on what terms.

Organizations, such as Campaign for Liberty, have been informing Congress about the bill. Currently, there are over 250 cosponsors in the House.

This letter is a call to action for Dick Durbin to cosponsor S 604.

It is also a call to action for citizens to become educated regarding the Federal Reserve and urge Congress to pass the bill. Remember, Congress is elected to represent you, not the banks.

"Permit me to issue and control the money of the nation and I care not who makes its laws." - Mayer Rothschild.

Today, July 18th, five concerned citizens and volunteers for Campaign for Liberty petitioned in the 8th Congressional District of Illinois on behalf of the bill before Congress to Audit the Federal Reserve Banking System.

That bill is HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. The bill is currently supported by 270 cosponsors in the House, a majority (and fast approaching a veto-proof majority). Yet, this common-sense legislation languishes in the House Financial Services Committee, where it has been referred. I leave it to the reader to attempt to understand why such a condition exists.

The petition urges Congresswoman Melissa Bean, representing the 8th Congressional District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives, to cosponsor HR 1207 to Audit the Fed and to seek roll call votes for the bill. It may be informative and revealing to the reader to learn that Representative Bean is, rather un-ironically, a member of the House Financial Services Committee (where HR 1207 has been seemingly relegated to an effective politico-pigeonhole).

I want to extend my personal gratitude to the four gentlemen who joined me in this important grassroots effort to inform and educate the residents of the 8th District about the Federal Reserve and the effort to Audit it. C4L Cook County Co-coordinator Bob Jones, Allen, Wayne, and Justin K. took it upon themselves today to take action to demand of Congress transparency and accountability from an institution that has devalued the monetary unit by some 95% since its inception in 1913.

Today we gathered forty-four signatures on our petitions, a formidable success for about two hours of work on a rather unseasonably cool and comfortable July day in northern Illinois (which your benevolent petitioners were grateful for).

That brings the total, to date, of HR 1207 petition signatures collected by grassroots activists in the 8th District to more than 250.

Apart from the somewhat painfully obvious and auspicious advantages to We The People to requiring by law transparency and accountability from the quasi-private, unelected central bank of the United States of America, our efforts, along with those of other concerned citizens, should rightfully elicit a cogent and coherent response from Congresswoman Bean. Alas, to date, we have not received an intelligible response.

Isn't it time for the Congresswoman to clearly and unequivocally articulate her position on HR 1207 and Fed transparency (especially since she campaigned on "transparency")? Having personally petitioned for HR 1207 in the 8th District on now the third occasion,  I think that the answer is a resounding 'yes' when the question is put directly to Representative Bean's constituents.

It's clearly time for Congresswoman Bean to dispense with any equivocation--and what is becoming increasingly clear to be something like prevarication--and to answer the petitions of her constituents. We will deliver them to her forthwith and at the her earliest convenience, along with the reasonable request that she explain her position on HR 1207 to her constituents

Today I am proud to say that our participation in representative government of the United States still embodies a powerful and sanguine meaning and that honesty and accountability in government are still ideals that are highly esteemed by the good and decent people of this country. I am, again, proud to be an American.

It was a hard-fought battle to get Mark Kirk to cosponsor HR 1207, but the efforts of our Region 10 patriots (and those from surrounding areas) have finally paid off! Way to go! 12 of 19 Illinois Representatives are now signed onto the bill; check out the state profile to find the other 7 who still need some guidance on this very important issue.

Dear Friends of Liberty,

Since our last update, an amazing thing has happened here in Illinois; our membership has been increasing at a phenomenal rate! It is clear that Illinois Patriots are working hard to spread the message of liberty, and your dedication is paying off. In the last 2 weeks, our total membership has grown by 579, 38 new user accounts have been created, and 3 members have agreed to work as local coordinators. This brings our total numbers to 6,356 members, 1,343 members with user accounts and 95 local coordinators. Welcome to all of the new members! It is said that many hands make light work, and though we have our work cut out for us, the more members we have to share the load, the greater our chance for success.

As you all know, the Campaign for Liberty staff has worked very hard to develop a winning strategy. One key element to the strategy is the training of members via the local coordinator training. Our local coordinator training is second to none when it comes to arming you with the knowledge and tools you will need to bring our country back to it's Constitutional roots. If you have a couple of spare hours per week that you can dedicate to learning how to win, and then use those tools to spread the message to members of your community, please consider signing up as a local coordinator.

Please welcome Rob Esposito as our new Region 13 coordinator. Rob is extremely dedicated to our cause, and he is a true asset to our leadership team.

Illinois State-Wide Barbecue

Our first state-wide barbecue will be held on July 25, from 11:00 to 5:00 at the VFW Park in Peoria. Russell Dill, a local coordinator from the Peoria area, has been working very hard to ensure that this event is a tremendous success. We are finalizing plans for speakers, as well as fun activities for the kids (both big and small) and we will provide further updates in the days preceding the barbecue. If you have not yet RSVP'd for this, please do so from your dashboards so we can plan accordingly. Please use the Campaign for Liberty Forums to discuss things such as ride sharing or to discuss your ideas for the event. If you would like to volunteer to help with the barbecue, or to provide food or supplies, please let us know. You may want to bringlawn chairs, and your choice of non-alcoholic beverages (alcohol is not allowed in the park). Bottled water will be provided.

HR 1207 / S 604

As of today, HR 1207 is up to 267 cosponsors. Please see the Illinois Profile where you will find a list of our Representatives, with those who have yet to cosponsor highlighted in red. While a majority of Illinois Representatives have signed onto this legislation, we still have 8 hold-outs, and if you are anything like me, THAT JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH! We were promised transparency in the last election cycle, and now is the time to demand that we get it. Many Illinois members have continued their efforts to collect signatures on their HR 1207 petitions, including Justin Kapacinskas who will be working in IL-10 this weekend. If you're in the area, and would like to help Justin in his efforts, please let him know; I'm sure he would welcome some company!

S 604 currently has 8 cosponsors, and many of our members are hard at work collecting petitions for Senators Durbin and Burris. Please be sure to have copies of all petitions at your local events, and blog about your efforts. We already have thousands of petitions to present to our Senators, and we need thousands more! You can find the petitions to both Senators on the State Profile. Other actions we can take is writing letters to the editor, calling the Senator's offices, and organizing letter writing campaigns at your monthly meetings. Please be sure to check your calendars for updates on planned meetings.

Health Care "Reform" / Cap and Trade

Health care legislation cleared it's first hurdle in the Senate yesterday, with a Senate panel voting to advance the bill on party lines. House committees are prepared to vote on their versions as early as Thursday. Recent polls reflect a loss of support from the public on Health Care Reform, but our need to act has grown MORE important instead of less. As we have seen with the bailouts, the stimulus bills, and Cap and Trade, it seems that when public support wanes, our elected officials work harder to rush the bad bills through. There are petitions on the state profile for your use, but more action is needed at this time. Please write and call both Senators as well as your Representative and demand that they oppose these bills. Stay tuned for further updates on plans of action.

Cap and Trade continues to need our attention as well. Though the latest word is that the Senate will not take action on this until the Fall, that does not mean that we can afford to lose sight of the importance of this issue. Please continue educating your neighbors, friends and family on this issue, call and write our Senators and stay tuned for a petition that should be available soon.

Miscellaneous

Be sure to check out the Illinois State Profile to see all of the latest news and plans of action. You'll noticed that the appearance of the page has changed for the better, and that is thanks to Doug's computer-savvy skills. Be sure to blog about your thoughts and planned activities; you just might find your entry featured on the state profile! Don't forget to follow the Illinois Campaign for Liberty on Twitter.

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski and Doug Bach

Interim State Coordinators for Illinois

House Democrats released the Health Care bill today: HR 3200, America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.

The Bill is 1018 pages and Speaker Pelosi is planning to have the bill voted on before the August recess, to meet the Presidents wishes.

[This event has been CANCELED. See the important update below.]

On Sunday, July 19th at 2:30 PM there will be a closed Wheeling Township GOP precinct captain meeting with Congressman Mark Kirk. We'd like to gather a volume of signatures in support of HR 1207 to present to Rep. Kirk at that meeting (C4L Regional Coordinator Justin Kuehlthau is a precinct captain for the Wheeling Township GOP and will be in attendance). You may recall that Justin and I have already presented the Congressman with over 80 signatures in support of HR 1207, but Representative Kirk still has not clearly stated his position on the bill.

We will meet at 9:30 AM CT on Saturday, July 18th, to discuss strategies for gathering signatures door-to-door from residents of the 10th Congressional District of Illinois on the petition urging Congressman Kirk to cosponsor this critical, common-sense legislation. We will then begin our petitioning efforts promptly at 10:00 AM. We will also gather signatures in support of the petitions urging U.S. Senators Durbin and Burris to cosponsor S 604, the companion legislation in the Senate to Audit the Fed.

This petition practically sells itself, folks. We will provide training (if necessary) and materials (pens, clip-boards, petition forms, HR 1207 slim jims, and maps). All you need to do is show up! Anyone can gather 10-30 signatures with a few hours of relatively enjoyable work. You might be surprised to learn that many people will actually thank you and encourage you in your petitioning efforts.

The meeting location is accessible via the Metra Union Pacific Northwest line and a weekend pass on Metra is $5.

We look forward to seeing you there! With your help, we hope to deliver a powerful message to Congressman Kirk that his constituents are FED UP with the arcane operations of the Fed.

For more details and to RVSP for the petition drive, click here.

UPDATE: Congressman Mark Kirk is now cosponsoring HR 1207. Thank you 10th District Patriots and thank you Ron Paul (and thanks to everyone who helped in this effort to bring Rep. Kirk on-board with this important bill)!

Therefore, this HR 1207 petition drive is canceled---only to be replaced by another grassroots effort that will be scheduled later today. So check back later for that important update.

The Federal Reserve is one of the most powerful and secretive institutions in Washington, long considered beyond the reach of lawmakers. But now, as details emerge of how the Fed secretly doled out more than a trillion dollars during the financial crisis, a rare bipartisan movement in Congress demands that the Fed be held accountable.

Monday, July 6, Senator Jim Demint of South Carolina attempted to add S 604 as an amendment to HR 1219, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act.

According to Matt Hawes:

"A little while ago, the Senate voted to pass HR 2918, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act. This $3.1 billion bill contains, among many other things, provisions for GAO audits on certain agencies.

With this in mind, Senator DeMint attached the full text of S 604, the Senate version of Ron Paul's Audit the Fed bill, to HR 2918 as Senate Amendment 1367 before it was considered for final passage.

However, Senate Democrats refused to even allow a vote on the amendment! Instead of giving it a chance to stand before the Senate, they swept it under the rug with a parliamentary tactic.

After Senator DeMint brought Audit the Fed to the floor, Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska raised a "point of order" to prevent a vote, claiming that the amendment violated Senate Rule 16 by "legislating" on an appropriations bill. The Senate president agreed, and the amendment was shot down.

Senator DeMint did not back down, though, and directly challenged Senate leadership by pointing out the other GAO audits contained in the bill. As Senator DeMint listed them off, the Senate president was forced to agree with Senator DeMint that each one he described, all of which would be left in for final passage, also violated Senate Rule 16.

So the issue wasn't about "legislating" on the bill or violating the Senate Rules (which is commonly done), it was about preventing a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve for the first time in its history!

Senate leadership is hoping this issue will just fade away so they can get on to what they deem to be more important business, like dictating what kind of healthcare plan you and I can carry or passing destructive Cap-and-Trade legislation."

LET'S NOT LET IT FADE AWAY! Call, write and fax Senator's Burris and Durbin TODAY and tell them to cosponsor S 604! Remind them that their party promised to provide us with transparency in the last election, and the blocking of this amendment was contrary to that promise. Once you have contacted them, be sure to sign the online petition. These petitions will be delivered to our Senators soon, and we need thousands of them to prove how serious we are, and how many of their constituents DEMAND what was promised to us, an open and transparent government that is accountable to the people.

I am happy to report that despite the cold and the constant rainy weather, Saturday's July 4th Tea Party Freedom Rally in Bloomington, IL was a great success! We had over 400+ people come out to celebrate freedom and listen to speakers talk about the Constitution, our Constitutional Republic (not democracy), the Federal Reserve System, and HR1207 / S. 604. While we were anticipating well over 1,000 people to come out (in good weather), to think that so many people still came out and stayed for over 2 hours in the pouring rain is quite admirable and personally encouraging.

Thank you to Matt, Tanya, Dave, and Angella for passing out C4L flyers in the pouring rain. It sounds like people were very eager to receive and read this information; at times swarming them exclaiming that they had not received a flyer yet.

Other Campaign For Liberty members, Donnie Herrin and I, spoke at the event about our Constitutional Republic, the Federal Reserve System, and HR1207 / S. 604. One year ago, I would not have dreamed that a crowd would agree with and cheer for ideas about questioning the socialistic central bank and the need for its audit. *Note - Videos of several of the event speakers will be posted next week.

"The success of the event [passing out literature, interacting with the community, getting out the message of individual liberty] was beyond measure. It was very encouraging and I look forward to building on this success." ~ Matt Ervin, C4L Local Coordinator of Normal, IL

A big thanks to Donny, Lex, and Keren for meeting consistantly each Sunday for the past 2.5 months and to all of the dedicated liberty-loving members of the Bloomington 912 Project, McLean County Campaign For Liberty, and the McLean County Libertarian Party!

Next Major Bloomington Rally - September 12 (more details to come!)

Here is the text of a letter to the editor I wrote that was recently published.  Also, if somebody says the Fed already publishes enough information here is the current law of the land US Code: Title 12, 3910 that says exactly what an audit cannot include (include it in letters to your representatives):

(3) Audits of the Federal Reserve Board and Federal Reserve banks may not include-
(A) transactions for, or with, a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;
(B) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, or open market operations;
(C) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or
(D) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to subparagraphs (A) through (C) of this paragraph.

Here is a link to the above
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/search/display.html?terms=audit%20Federal%20Reserve
&url=/uscode/html/uscode12/usc_sec_12_00003910----000-.html

Published Letter to the Editor:

The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United States that has set certain banking interest rates in attempts to stimulate or contract economic growth since 1913. Since the recent economic collapse, however, the Fed has involved itself heavily in the banking system handing out trillions of our dollars.

But we have no idea where our money has gone because the Fed has no legal obligation to tell us. In fact, it has refused multiple inquiries from the House and Senate to disclose who is receiving these trillions of dollars.

Furthermore, the regional Reserve Banks in the Federal Reserve system have boards of directors chosen primarily by private banking institutions. There are striking conflicts of interest in the management of our money. The CEO of JP Morgan also serves on the board of the New York Federal Reserve, and he was a board member of the New York Fed even as he negotiated on behalf of JP Morgan with the New York Fed for a $29 billion bridge loan allowing his company to take over Bear Stearns. Furthermore, half the seats intended to represent the public at the New York Fed are vacant.

Luckily, there is legislation in the Senate to change current law and allow an audit of the Fed's books: S 604 Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009. Contact our Senators urging them to support and co-sponsor S 604 to find out where our money has gone.

Below is a letter I have written and will be sending to all of the HR1207 supporters in my district. The reason I am sending this letter, at my own expense, is because we were promised transparency and accountability by most of our elected officials in this last set of elections, but so far have NOT gotten it. This is my way of saying to my fellow citizens "you are NOT forgotten, and your voice IS heard by someone".

I plan to re-write this as an open letter to Ms. Bean and hope to have it published as a Letter to the Editor in one (or more) of the local papers. I'll keep you updated on that.

Enjoy,

Bob

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------

Dear Neighbor;

My name is Bob Jones, and you might remember me as one of the gentlemen who have been out asking for your support on a bill in Congress asking for an audit of the Federal Reserve over the last couple of months. I want thank you for your support in what I consider to be an important issue and to give you an update on the results of our efforts.

As you might recall, the Federal Reserve Bank is NOT a branch of the US Government, but is instead a private company (actually an oligarchy of several private companies), which has some of the powers of a Government entity but none of the responsibilities. Also, during times of economic distress, such as we are now experiencing, it is NOT the Federal Reserve, but We the taxpaying People who are the lenders of last resort, since it is We the People who must repay the loans made by the Federal Reserve (plus interest on those loans). Fellow citizens such as myself are working tirelessly to bring about a change in the Federal Reserve in the sense that if they are to be given the powers of a Federal bureau, then they should be accountable to We the People just like any other Federal department. This is why we were out gathering signatures in support of our cause over the last several weekends.

To give you an update, I have been trying for the last month, calling or emailing our Representative, Melissa Bean's, local office weekly; ever since the last petition drive I partook in on May 30th of this year. In the last 4+ weeks, I have had exactly ONE response from her office indicating that my request for a meeting was received. To the best of my knowledge, my request on all of our behalves has been ignored. And this non-response has come from our Representative who campaigned on the platform of Transparency and Accountability.

I cannot speak for anyone except myself, but I have become absolutely disgusted in the lack of representation from our supposed Representative, who seems to NOT represent our best interests. Here are some of the Congressional bills (some are now signed into law) that she has supported and voted for:
· The bank bailout of 2008
· The pork-laden Stimulus bill of 2009
· The Mandatory Service bill a.k.a. Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act
· The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control act (whereby tobacco is now a drug controlled by the FDA)
· The $106Billion War Supplemental spending bill
· The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (a.k.a. Cap and Trade, or as I like to refer to it, the Cap and tax and tax and tax Bill)

What the preceding tells me is Mrs. Bean sees us, her constituents (and ultimately, her bosses), as nothing more than her personal ATM machine since all of the measures she has supported recently either have or will impose additional tax burdens and cost increases on us. For instance, the recently passed Cap and Trade bill would, if passed into law, impose additional burdens on us citizens of between $3000 and $12000 per year depending on which sets of estimates you believe (I tend to believe that it will fall between the 2 extremes but closer to the upper end - to start with, and will likely increase as time goes on).

Thank you again for your support in this matter. I will keep you updated on any further developments.

Sincerely,
Bob Jones

07/04/09 12:00 PM - 07/04/09 2:30 PM
Location:

Riedy's Tee Time

1400 Maple Avenue

Lisle, IL 60532

Description:

There is no day of the year that is more appropriate than the 4th of July for members of the Campaign for Liberty to be full fledged activists!

Members of the DuPage County Campaign for Liberty will be attending a Tea Party that has been arranged to take place in Lisle on the 4th. The event will begin at 12:00 p.m. and is scheduled to conclude at 2:30 p.m. It will be hosted at Riedy's Tee Time. The address is 1400 Maple Avenue, Lisle, IL 60532.

We will be surrounded by a crowd of people who, like us, are fed up with taxes and government spending. By demonstrating our common frustrations along with them, we will have a great opportunity to introduce many people to the full message of Liberty and Constitutionally limited government.

We'll be handing out Campaign for Liberty literature, collecting signatures for our "Audit the Fed" petitions, and otherwise having a great time with C4L'ers and all of the new friends that we'll be making.

Please grab your friends and family and join us. Paint some signs, and wear your favorite freedom related t-shirt, just don't waste another perfectly good Independence Day!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or to call my cell. Please RSVP on our Campaign for Liberty Calendar or on our Facebook page. Thanks,

Matt Phillips

If you're planning to attend a July 4th event this weekend (or even if you're just having a bbq with a few friends in your backyard), take the opportunity to spread the word about C4L!

The fliers below celebrate our founding principles and feature the C4L logo and website address.

The first one was created by supporter Craig Wright, and quotes the Declaration of Independence while also listing the Bill of Rights. Click here to download.

This second flier is our official July 4th handout, and centers on the Declaration, with a key quotation (original document in the background) framed by images of the Founders and the states.  Download this flier here.

And be sure to check our Handouts section for more C4L fliers!

Dear Friends of Liberty,

As most of you know, this week Doug Bach was promoted to (Interim) State Co-Coordinator. With the flurry of activity happening all around us, whether in the U.S. Congress, the Illinois Legislature or in the streets of your hometown with upcoming summer festivities, Doug is a welcome addition to our leadership team.

Brent Roos, our Peoria County Coordinator shared some impressive news with me this week, and we think you'll all agree that the folks in the Peoria area deserve a round of applause. He and his dedicated crew have gathered over 1,500 signatures on their S 604 petitions! This is no small feat; members from the Peoria area have been working extremely hard, manning booths at every local event they possibly can, and their commitment is greatly appreciated.

Illinois Campaign for Liberty Barbecue

Things are really starting to come together for our first barbecue, scheduled to take place on July 25 in Peoria. Russell Dill is taking care of reservations for us, and as soon as they are confirmed, we will add the exact location and address to the calendar. If you haven't RSVP'd for the barbecue yet, please do so by following this link or RSVP from your calendar on your dashboard. It's important that we know how many people to expect so we can plan accordingly. The day promises to be a lot of fun, and we hope to see you there!

HR 1207 / S 604

HR 1207 currently has 245 cosponsors, with Representative Danny Davis (IL-7) being the most recent to sign on. Congratulations to all of our Region 7 members who worked so hard for this achievement! This brings the total number of cosponsors from Illinois to 11, with 8 more to go. Though we have a majority in the state AND in the Congress signed onto this bill, some in Congress need more convincing. Please continue working on the remaining 8 Representatives. They are: Bobby Rush (CD-1), Jesse Jackson JR. (CD-2), Luis Gutierrez (CD-4), Mike Quigley (CD-5), Melissa Bean (CD-8), Mark Kirk (CD-10), Jerry Costello (CD-12), and Bill Foster (CD-14). Please click here to find their contact information.

S 604 currently has 4 Senators signed onto the bill. The time has come to turn up the heat on our Senators. You will find the link to the S 604 petition on the Illinois Profile, as well as links to Senator Durbin and Senator Burris' contact information. With the 4th of July festivities and Tea Parties just around the corner, it should be easy to gather a lot of signatures.

Cap and Trade

Last Friday, the U.S. House voted to pass the Cap and Trade bill. This bill was brought to the floor with little warning, 300 pages were added to it in the middle of the night, and it is unlikely that any of the supporters of this legislation actually read it. You can read about the dangers of this bill here. Cap and Trade passed in the house by only 8 votes, and though it is going to be tough, we CAN defeat it in the Senate. Please call, write, fax and visit our Senators and demand that they vote no on this legislation when it comes to the floor of the Senate.

Healthcare "Reform"

Once the 4th of July recess is over, Congress is due to reconvene to determine the future of our healthcare system. Congress' ideas on how to pay for "coverage for all" range from taxing healthcare benefits for all Americans except those in a Union, to raising taxes on those items that they deem to be "sinful". Every possible "solution" is on the table, and none of the ideas are good. Please check your Representative's websites for details on forums they are holding to discuss healthcare reform, and then encourage every friend of liberty you know to attend. There is a link to a petition on the Illinois Profile. Save our healthcare; contact your representatives!

Miscellaneous

This week 68 members joined our ranks, 42 created user accounts, and 3 members agreed to work as Local Coordinators, bringing our membership to 5,777, with 1,305 user accounts and 92 Local Coordinators. Welcome to all of the new members!

We have many Local, County and Regional Coodinator positions to fill. Our Local Coordinator training is an invaluable tool that will equip you to bring America back to a Constitutional Republic. The work is rewarding, and the pay-off is sweet... Liberty in our lifetime! The time is now to get the leadership in place to win!

Please be sure to follow the Illinois Campaign for Liberty on Twitter, and check out the Illinois Profile often for the latest Illinois news, commentary and planned events!

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski and Doug Bach

(Interim) State Coordinators for Illinois

From the Southtown Star:

A national science-based environmental group sees two Southland congresswomen as swing votes for a controversial energy bill making its way through Congress.

But U.S. Reps.Debbie Halvorson (D-11th) and Judy Biggert (R-13th) still are weighing how the bill would affect their districts before commenting on how they will cast their votes.

U.S. Reps. Judy Biggert and Debbie Halvorson are key votes on the American Clean Energy and Security Act, says the Union of Concerned Scientists.

"I'm carefully considering this legislation as it develops," Halvorson said through a statement. "Changes are still being made to the bill, and I want to fully evaluate its affects on the 11th District and my constituents."

Halvorson's district has a large agricultural industry. Biggert's district is heavy on manufacturing.

Read the rest of the story here.

Rep. Halvorson is obviously open to hearing from her constituency on this issue. Her #s are on the District 11 home page.

All-

On Friday the US House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on HR2454 - The American Clean Energy and Security Act.  This amounts to nothing more than a backdoor tax on the American people, that will do NOTHING to help the enviornment.

Read a great criticism of the bill here: http://bit.ly/du8et

This bill will cost the taxpayers of Illinois an estimated $443M.

Look at this map to see estimated costs for every state

Everyone needs to call their reps TODAY & TOMORROW, and let them know we oppose this bill.

I've also heard that Mark Kirk (IL-10) has been especially targeted to be the first Republican to support the bill.  Call YOUR REP first and then call Mark Kirk.

Dear Heather:

Thank you for contacting me about the Federal Reserve System. I appreciate hearing from you and value your opinion.

The Federal Reserve is the central banking system of the United States. It plays a vital role in setting the monetary policies that provide stability and contain systemic risk across the financial markets. The Federal Reserve supervises and regulates banking institutions to protect consumer credit rights. Furthermore, it manages our money supply to achieve maximum employment, reasonable long-term interest rates, and stable prices. Regardless of how it responds to the banking crisis, the Federal Reserve’s independence has been important to the long-term growth of the American economy and the stability of our financial system.

Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind as the debate continues in Congress over our fiscal and monetary policies. I will continue to work diligently alongside my Senate colleagues to support greater responsibility, transparency, and accountability. Your concerns as a taxpayer remain of the utmost importance to me.

Again, thank you for writing. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future regarding this or any other issue of concern to you.

Sincerely,

Roland W. Burris
United States Senator

It's been another incredible week in Illinois, with members around the state working hard to bring real change to our state. Many members have been busy gathering signatures on their HR 1207 and S 604 petitions while others have been planning "Meet the Candidate" forums, organizing for upcoming parades and Tea Parties, and hosting Campaign for Liberty booths at local events. Be sure to check out your calendars on your dashboards, as there are far too many planned activities to list! Thanks to everyone that is working so hard to put these events together.

State News

Please be sure to check the State Profile regularly for updates on planned activities, actionable information through the blogs section as well as the Newswire, and helpful information pertinent to the state such as Coordinator information and important links to petitions and governing bodies.

Governor Quinn has called our legislators back to Springfield, and they are due to start working on the budget again beginning Tuesday, June 23. The Governor is still set on raising our income taxes, so please call your legislators and insist that raising our taxes is unacceptable. The majority of the House defeated the Governor's planned increase last month, but he has been relentless in his demands for this tax hike. Please try to call your legislators Tuesday afternoon. You can find your legislator and their office number by clicking here.

We are planning a state-wide barbecue for all members and their families for July 25 in Peoria. Peoria County Coordinator, Brent Roos, is our Project Lead for this event. This will be a perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other and enjoy fun, family, and good food! Planning is in the beginning stages, so if you would like to be a part of organizing this event, or if you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know. Please RSVP yes, no or maybe from your dashboards so that we can make our plans accordingly. Watch for further updates on this event.

National News

HR 1207 / S 604 There are currently 237 cosponsors for HR 1207, and 2 cosponsors for  S 604. With the Federal Reserve hiring a PR firm to help "improve" their image, and President Obama proposing to give the Fed MORE power, it is imperative that we continue to work on our Representatives and Senators and bring them on-board this important legislation. We've come a long way in a very short period of time with this legislation, and now is not the time to back down! Thanks to everyone who has been working so hard on this. You can download copies for both petitions from the Illinois Profile.

Health Care Reform  We all knew the day was coming when our elected officials in DC were going to try to nationalize health care; that day is here. Throughout the summer, our Congress will be working on "reforming" health care, and their proposals spell disaster for those of us who believe in privacy, and the freedom to make our own health care choices. It goes without saying that we can't afford this 1.5 trillion dollar plan, but lack of funds has not been a deterrent to our rulers in DC for a very long time. Please take action on government proposed health care reform now! Petitions for our Representatives and Senators have been added to our State Profile.

Miscellaneous

This week, our membership has grown by 148 members, 19 new members with user accounts, and 1 new local coordinator, bringing our total numbers to 5,709 members, 1,263 with user accounts, and 89 local coordinators. Welcome to all of the new members! If you are interested in becoming a local, county or regional coordinator and have any questions, please be sure to let me know.

This week, Orville Brettman was promoted to Coordinator for Region 16, James Hazelbower agreed to coordinate for Carroll County, and Laurie Jenner stepped into the McHenry County Coordinator position. Congratulations (and a big thank you) to each of you!

Please be sure to follow us on Twitter, and share your ideas on the Campaign for Liberty Forums.

Heather Danielowski

(Interim) State Coordinator for Illinois

Independence Day is almost here and so are many demonstrations, parades, picnics, and other gatherings.

However, if you plan to attend events with C4L materials and have not ordered them yet, please do so no later than Wednesday, June 24. Currently the C4L Store is not set-up for expedited shipping and normal Fed Ex will take 3 to 5 business days for delivery.

Moreover, banner orders are printed "just-in-time" and can take up to two weeks for fulfillment.

Have a great July 4th and thank you for your help!

Today, June 19th, if you are so inclined, please contact Rep. Mark Kirk's offices and politely and respectfully urge the Congressman to cosponsor HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, and inquire of Rep. Kirk's position on HR 1207 and Fed transparency. Please post your update here after reaching the Congressman's offices.

Congressman Mark Kirk recently equivocated regarding his position on HR 1207 to Audit the Federal Reserve as he was presented with more than 80 petition signatures from his constituents in support of this common-sense measure. HR 1207 now has the support of 237 cosponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives (over a majority--and approaching a veto-proof majority). It is clearly time for Representative Kirk to articulate his position on HR 1207 and the need for transparency and accountability from an institution that has devalued the dollar by 95% since its inception.

Throughout the 2008 Presidential Campaign and beyond, Dr. Paul was often quoted as saying, "If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait until it's free!" The time is now upon us to take action to STOP the Federal Government from destroying our healthcare system. As it stands now, their plan will cover approximately 1/3rd of uninsured Americans, with a price tag in excess of $1.5 TRILLION. It goes without saying that American citizens can ill afford such an expense. With unemployment on the rise, businesses having to shut their doors, and foreign nations not so eager to buy our debt anymore, just WHO will be left to pay that bill?

There is far more to worry about than the extreme cost of this plan. According to Dr. Paul, "Medical decisions being made by government bureaucrats, loss of privacy of medical data, and our ability to keep our own insurance and doctors are all up for grabs once Congress starts moving on these government takeover and rationing schemes."

If placing your medical decisions into the hands of politicians is anathema to you, then you must TAKE ACTION NOW! Follow this link, and customize the petition for each of your elected Senators and your Representative in Washington. Print up extra copies so you can gather as many signatures as possible, and deliver your signed petitions to the offices of your elected representatives. The time is short to take action on this!  As we witnessed with the unconstitutional bailouts, when the Washington crowd decides to do something that the people are against, they will rush it through at break-neck speed!

We cannot sit idly by while Washington attempts to take over our nation's healthcare. Sign the petition, call your Senators and your Representative, and demand that they keep their hands off our healthcare system!

We see the news every day, Springfield is in chaos and no leadership is emerging with real solutions from the General Assembly.  Washington is poised to socialize the health care industry and reduce it's effectiveness somewhere to "DMV levels".  There are few voices that are championing the liberty-based ideas and ideals that most of this country adheres to. The media believes that the center-right is dead and only the "progressive" message is vibrant. The truth is, our message isn't losing because it's flawed; it's losing because we lack serious candidates to advance it!

Whether you are a Republican, a Democrat or a third-party/independent, now is the time to lend your voice to the fight. In Illinois, I'm recruiting candidates to run for the General Assembly and Congress. Quite simply, we need you.  Yes, YOU!  Our ideas aren't being advanced in Springfield or Washington because people like us aren't there to promote them.  Politicians care about getting re-elected and when no serious challenges are presented in the ballot box, they are free to do what they want.  Consider this:

The reason the 50%-67% income tax increase didn't pass last month in Illinois wasn't because it was bad policy (though it was).  Lawmakers didn't want to vote for a massive unprecedented tax increase two months before people could circulate petitions to run against them.  They didn't want to anger the electorate while they still have time to respond!  Once the candidate filing period is over, they will have all the latitude they need to increase taxes because they will know whether they have a challenge or not.  Now is the time to keep the pressure on!

Consider running for the General Assembly or Congress.  Many of our elected leaders have simply rarely (if ever!) had a primary challenge.  Many run unopposed in the General Election!  That means they don't have to concern themselves with your issues because they simply have no risk to losing re-election.

No matter what your political leanings, please consider running.  If you are interested, contact me at jcb@illinoiscitizenscoalition.com and I will do what I can to assist you.  I provide policy advice and political advice for free and I can connect you to low-cost resources to help with your campaign as well.  The current crop of leadership has failed... now it is YOUR turn to lead.

Video: HR 1207 Discussion with Rep. Mark Kirk (IL-10)

This was filmed yesterday, June 13th, at the Republicans of Wheeling Township meeting. Many thanks to C4L Regional Coordinator for Illinois Region 10, Justin Kuehlthau for making this possible and for his excellent work petitioning, organizing, and speaking in favor of HR 1207 to Audit the Fed. Justin is making a tremendous contribution to the freedom movement in the form of conventional political action at the local level. Also, I want to offer my sincere gratitude to Congressman Mark Kirk for making himself available to his constituents in this forum.

As part of the on-going Illinois HR 1207 Petition project to help persuade the last vestiges of U.S. Representatives from Illinois who have not yet taken action in favor of full and complete transparency for the Fed, last week we collected 80 signatures on the petition urging Congressman Mark Kirk to cosponsor HR 1207.

Yesterday Justin presented the petitions to the Congressman after addressing him during the meeting, but Representative Kirk's response still leaves us with some questions.

Is it too much to ask of our representatives that they clearly and unequivocally respond to our petitions? HR 1207 is not a complex bill to understand. What is Congressman Kirk's position on the bill? His answer in the video seems to sidestep the question altogether.

Congressman Kirk ought to know that the Constitution does not authorize an "independent" central bank. Only the Congress is to have the power to coin money and regulate the value thereof according to the Constitution. Representative Kirk's conception of the Really Smart Guys at the Fed who assiduously and benevolently decide the value of the dollar and who are supposedly not affected by political pressures or attract the influence of special interests is frankly absurd. If Congressman Kirk hasn't noticed, not many outside of the so-called mainstream punditry and the insulated big government beltway are satisfied with the job done by the Keynesianist money-changers at the Fed. It would seem that an honest and sound monetary policy would begin with transparency and accountability for the institution that has devalued the dollar by 95% since its inception and a public discourse on alternatives to the status quo that has brought us insidious debt, inflation, and eventual national ruin.

Summer has arrived, and the opportunities for petition drives, recruitment activities, training and "meet the candidate" events abound. Members from all around the state are planning to march in parades, have Campaign for Liberty booths at local gun shows, Blues Fests and other local events. Be sure to check out your County and Regional calendars for a complete list of planned activities.

2010 Elections

It seems as if the 2008 elections were just wrapped up, but believe it or not, it's already time to start planning for the 2010 election. With the Primary Season quickly approaching, candidates for different offices are actively seeking the approval of Illinois voters. Many of our County and Regional Coordinators have already made plans to invite different candidates to their monthly meetings so our members can ask important questions of those who wish to represent us. Be sure to get to your monthly meetings so you can take part in these important events, and if your area has nothing planned yet, stay tuned! Our County and Regional Coordinators will keep you apprised as more information is available.

HR 1207 / S 604

The Campaign for Liberty has realized a VERY important win this week. HR 1207 now has a majority of the House cosponsoring this legislation, 222 to be exact. This does not mean that we can let up on our efforts, but it is a milestone that we should all be proud of. As you know, even with the majority of House on board, this bill is still not guaranteed to make it through committee and onto the floor for a vote. Illinois currently has 10 of our 19 representatives signed onto the bill. Of the remaining 9, there are 3 that sit on the House Financial Services Committee, the committee where this bill resides. They are Representatives Luis Gutierrez (IL-4), Melissa Bean (IL-8) and Bill Foster (IL-14). Getting these 3 on board would be a huge win for Illinois, and the C4L in general, as the more committee members who sign on, the greater chance the bill will make it out of committee. Please click here to find out if your Representative has signed onto the bill, and be sure to keep working on those who haven't.

S 604 (the Senate version of the bill) also enjoyed a milestone this week. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) became the Senate's first cosponsor! The time has come to begin pursuing support from our Senators in earnest. Hand-delivered letters and personal visits work best, so if you are able, please visit our Senator's local offices from time to time and ask for their support of transparency by signing onto this bill.

Illinois Legislation

As I reported last week, Governor Quinn's request to solve the state's budget crisis by raising our income taxes failed in the House. Governor Quinn has made headlines all week as he has spoken to churches and different groups insisting that we must pass a budget where we "take care of our neighbor". He has made it clear that he will not accept a budget unless it approves the theft of more of your hard-earned dollars. We need to continue to contact our legislators making it clear to them that they need to cut their spending, NOT raise our taxes. You can find your state legislator's contact information by clicking here.

Las Vegas Conference

The Campaign for Liberty is gearing up for it's third Regional Conference, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 10th through the 12th. While the majority of the conference will be focused on educating our members on how to bring our country back to it's Constitutional roots, it promises to be a lot of fun too! Click here to view the full agenda and make your reservations.

Miscellaneous

Please join me in welcoming John Bambenek, our new Champaign County Co-Coordinator,  and Diana Skipworth, our new Kane County Coordinator.

Many thanks to the 6 members who stepped into local coordinator roles this week! Our total membership grew by 79, with 17 members signing up for user accounts. This brings our total numbers to 5,561 members, 1,244 members with user accounts and 88 Local Coordinators. Welcome to all of our new members! If anyone has any questions about the role of a Local Coordinator, please contact any coordinator for more details.

For Liberty,

Heather Danielowski

(Interim) State Coordinator for Illinois

Brought to you by Break the Matrix, this call-a-thon is targeting different Representatives every day. Representative Melissa Bean, 8th District of Illinois is on today's call list. Join in on the effort and call Melissa Bean! Ask her to join the 207 Representatives who have already cosponsored HR 1207.

Planning is underway for a non-partisan, three-day Midwest Liberty Fest! The event - slated for late summer/early fall - will be more casual (and inexpensive!) in nature than a typical conference, yet feature all of the entertainment and educational elements that make a quality political event. Many high-profile speakers are being contacted, and several of our favorites have already committed to being in attendance. Freedom-oriented vendors will also be accommodated. Many, many more details are here.

The Location Committee has narrowed the location to:

  • Camp Zoe, a campground venue south of  Salem, Missouri
  • Du Quoin Fairgrounds at Du Quoin, Illinois

Of course, we in Illinois have our preference that will allow more of our constituency (and their families) to attend.Laughing

So, GO VOTE for your preference right NOW . . . and, we'll see you @ the campground!!

Poll: Do you plan to attend the Midwest Liberty Fest?

Sounds like a blast . . . yes!
I don't think so.
Maybe
Only if it's in Illinois
Only if there are hotels nearby . . . I don't "do" camping!
Depends on the speaker lineup.
If there's a solid educational program, I'd seriously consider it.
If carpools/mass transit are arranged, I'm there for sure!

It is intereting that Mark Kirk is still the only Illinois Republican that is not a cosponser of HR 1207 given the comments he makes here:

Kirk said that Chinese leaders were sharply critical in private of the US Federal Reserve's policy of "quantitative easing" - a form of flooding the financial system with cash, which critics deride as printing imaginary money.

and his willingness to be more honest with Chineese Officials than other Government officials:

"One of the messages I had - because we need to build trust and confidence in our number one creditor - is that the budget numbers that the US government has put forward should not be believed," Kirk said.

Are you a freedom loving individual, determined to see your country return to a Constitutional Republic? Do you fear turning on the news or booting up your computer knowing that the news coming out of the state capital and Washington D.C. will portray a state and nation in peril of stealing your remaining liberties rather than abiding by the mandates prescribed by our founding document? If so, this job may be the one you have been looking for.

We are currently seeking motivated men and women to learn the ins and outs of the political landscape in their own neighborhoods. Our highly educational training will equip you to bring your neighborhoods, townships, counties, states and nation back to the Constitutional Republic our Founders envisioned. If you have a couple of hours of free time per week, are sick and tired of being sick and tired, and are dedicated to changing the course of our state and nation, then this is the perfect job for you.

The right candidate will: invest a few hours a week to learning how to get involved in the political process at all levels, work to educate their neighbors, and learn from those who have already been in the trenches. The reward: liberty in your lifetime, thus leaving an inheritance of freedom for future generations.

Our coordinators are standing by to answer any questions you may have. Don't let this exciting opportunity pass you by! Your fellow patriots are waiting anxiously to hear from you.

DuPage County's Campaign for Liberty group has been in contact with the campaigns of two Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidates. One candidate has expressed great interest in joining us at one of our meetings. The other candidate has already been in contact with our county coordinator Doug Bach about coming to a meeting in the near future.

The candidates are:

Dan Proft - www.Proft2010.com (Website appears to be under construction)

Adam Andrzejewski  - www.adamforillinois.com

More details will be provided in the weeks to come regarding dates and locations for the meetings.

In the meantime we need you to research the candidates and come up with some really tough questions for them.

Our meetings will most definitely be in the western suburbs of Chicago. If you know in advance that you cannot attend, please post the questions that you'd like us to ask the candidates in the comments of this blog.

Let's come up with some good ones!

Poll: Have you looked into who's running for governor in 2010?

Yes. I am very interested in turning Illinois around this election cycle.
No. I'm too busy watching reality tv.
Whaaa? Pat Quin doesn't automatically get four years?

From youtube's "Senate Hub":

"Senator Dodd asks: Is your health care working? What changes would you like to see?

Democratic Senators are writing a major health reform bill. Rising costs are hitting families and businesses and now 46 million Americans live without health coverage. We need reform. Respond now with your ideas as the Senate writes health care legislation. You can help."

Please follow the link above and post comments, vote for Constitutional ideas and against those that are antithetical to our Constitutional Republic.

Thanks to Jeremie for pointing this out.
