This is a quote by President Obama taken from the Washington Post. I happened to come across it via Google News.

"History tells us that job growth always lags behind economic growth, which is why we have to continue to pursue measures that will create new jobs," he said. "And I can promise you that I won't let up until the Americans who want to find work can find work."

To read, "until the Americans who WANT to find work can find work", is absolutely disgusting to me. This is one of the biggest reasons we are in the jobless situation to begin with. The "sheeple" are having their wings clipped in order to fit into the role "The Great Dependency" suggests of us.

It isn't helping our way of life when American citizens feel that is OK to "ride the system". In my opinion the only ones that have earned that right are the Soldiers, Airmen, Seamen, and Marines that have volunteered their time to this country. However, they will be among the first to be treated unfairly. The lazy, unproductive, leech-like citizen of today, with the help of the Fed, has successfully made it more difficult for the hard working, responsible citizen to reach their goals. This is utterly ridiculous. How can one stand there and claim that expanding the ability of Americans to sit on their ass and do nothing helps our economy. It is sad that they use us against ourselves.

It became apparent, with the Bailout(s) and the movement towards Universal Health Care, that our government no longer cares for those who provide the means to which they can continue thier assault on our freedoms. Is it not enough that we have already printed hundreds of billions of federal notes that will only drive our economy further into the red. Which, by the founding standards, are being used illegally. I find it hard to believe that one can do any amount of legitimate research, and find that our federal government is performing well for the tax payers. It continues to make horrible calls for the economy, and is again looking towards a Bailout.

We need to motivate more Americans to do right by themselves and others. I do not have an answer as to how we can fix these situations. I favor the road that moves towards less dependency and a more sound dollar. One which is backed by something of substance, and not digital references. If we continue down the road we currently travel, apathy will be our biggest enemy.

In Liberty,

Marty Lesperance

On a side note: I have recently ordered End the Fed by Congressman Dr. Ron Paul. I hope that this book is able to shed more light on the situation for my personal benefit. I welcome the day we recover our senses, and pay attention to the rules we have already established. I love the Constitution, and applaud the Independents who fight on its behalf.

Poll: If you worked or work for the Gov't, would you be willing to sacrifice your job in order to restore the Republic as defined by the Constitution?

Definitely, Yes!

In a special podcast, Jason Pye and Brett Bittner interview Bob Barr to further explore his thoughts regarding the plan to possibly bring prisoners detained as part of the War on Terror to the United States for trial.

On Monday, former Congressman Barr, along with Grover Norquist and David Keene released a joint statement supporting the proposal. In the interview, Barr discusses federal prisons, habeas corpus, and indefinite detention of these prisoners.

You can download the podcast here (13 minutes/12 MB). The introduction music is "Easy Skankin'" by Bob Marley, one of the former Congressman's favorite artists.

Racist, Nazi, greedy bastard, angry mob, AstroTurf, brown-shirt, unpatriotic, goon, heathen, liar, rich, skinhead, moron, gun nut, ignorant fool, manipulator. Those are sixteen words and phrases used to describe me, used by the media, in person, on the phone, and on the Internet in response to my opposition to ObamaCare. I think that I should note that these are the ones I can publish due to the tameness of language. Of the sixteen, I find only two to be accurate: angry mob and skinhead (only because I cut my hair REALLY short). Friends and acquaintances who have seen or heard these suggest that I collect them as trophies for my efforts. Needless to say, I have a thick skin when it comes to name-calling, mostly because I know what it really means. It means only one thing: I. Am. Winning.

Photo Courtesy of The 1776 Project via FlickrI am winning because I inflict pain, the most effective stimulus on the 535 Congressmen in Washington, DC. Pain is also a stimulus that is easy to administer, as I seek to influence those spineless jellyfish. As I noted in last week's podcast, my passion for activism is renewed. I see the "debate" over ObamaCare dwindle into nothing more than name-calling of its opposition, making it harder for the statists to sway the people with their talking points and eloquent, though factually void, speeches. Instead, the statists are spending their time denouncing and attacking opponents like me, who want them to know that there is a price to be paid for bad political behavior. That price is the continued application of pain until ObamaCare or BaucusCare or whatever "compromise" bill is reached rests at the bottom of the circular file.

I continue to see and hear politicians and "in the tank" media discuss about how ineffective the opposition to ObamaCare is. I also see and hear them talk about the lack of ideas from "my side." If that is the case, why has HR 3200 not yet passed? If the ideas it contains are so great, why have its supporters continually lost support, both from the people and the politicians? Remember how hard most of us fought the bailouts last year for the two or three days leading up to the vote, where our opposition was squashed handily, and we were told by some legislators that "[they] know better." The key difference between then and now: THEY HAD THE VOTES. If they had them at any point prior, the bill would have been quickly passed and signed into law before the summer recess just like President Obama's instructions.

I guess my point is this, in America, there is no real debate, only the debate by the rules of the political class. You must play by their rules, using their words, in the format they decide. If you choose not to do this, you will be marginalized, ridiculed, called names, threatened, maybe even worse. There is no point in declaring that the media is against you. There is no point in debating the merits of your ideas and pointing out the flaws in theirs. There is no point in listening to them when you are told, "That is not how we do things around here?" or "You are hurting your own cause." Those statements are used by THEM to tell US to "piss off." When you submit to their rules and listen to their criticisms, you have already lost.

Sanford Bishop Jr., the Blue Dog Democrat representative from our very own 2nd Congressional District in Georgia agrees with H.R.1207 and a full Audit of the Federal Reserve.  As the most recent congressman to support H.R.1207 from the state of Georgia, Bishop joins the ranks of the other 11 members of the House of Representatives and Both Senators from the state to call for full transparency in the actions of the Federal Reserve; thereby leaving one lone Democrat, Representative Jim Marshall from Georgia's 8th District, to oppose the legislation.

Bishop gave his support on October 27th, signaling his agreement with 75% of the American populace as shown in a recent Rasmussen Reports poll. His support is a victory and great step forward for all those C4L members and 2nd District citizens who spent countless hours calling, mailing, faxing his office for support then hand delivering over one thousand signed petitions in person to his several district offices.

The Campaign For Liberty and the members of Georgia's Second Congressional District should all be very proud of this accomplishment pushed forward by their support and actions.  We need not forget to thank Congressman Bishop for his support.

This, however, is just the beginning.  We must not lose focus or drive to perform the actions that are needed from here on out.  We must use this victory to inspire us to keep working towards our goals to spread the message of Liberty and transparency in a constitutional government; in fact, I'm pretty sure one Representative Jim Marshall will be hearing that very message soon enough.  Perhaps, like 75% of Americans, and all his fellow Representatives and Senators from the state, he will agree.

So you have been appointed as a County Coordinator. Chances are, you are one of the few Local Coordinators in your county, so you got the job. You're willing to serve, but unsure of exactly what you're supposed to be doing.

Allow me to introduce you to Robert McGee, the coordinator for Richmond County, Georgia. He's been appearing on local media, having regular meetings with activists, and generally making the organization known. Please see his latest posts, and get inspired!

Yours in liberty,
Ike Hall

In case you haven't noticed, the Campaign for Liberty has made Step 4 of the Local Coordinator Training available. But before you can even begin Step 4, you must first complete Step 3: Get to Know Your Elected Officials. To help you along, I have created this short guide explaining How I Completed Step 3:

  1. Like most Americans, I graduated high school (and college) woefully ignorant of the basic structure of my state and local government. How many of you can even recall which state legislative district you live in, much less who your representatives are? Luckily, my Secretary of State's website has a 'poll locator' tool which lists all of the political boundaries that I live in. This information is obviously key to completing this section of the training.
  2. The basic point of this section of training is for local coordinators to educate themselves on local political figures at the city, county, district, and state levels. Obviously Internet search engines are your friend. I found it beneficial to first locate the websites for my city (Atlanta), county (Fulton), and state (Georgia General Assembly/Governor) and to then dig through each website for information. Also, the Campaign for Liberty provides a great resource for identifying your US Congressional delegation.
  3. The training will ask you to research details about each official's political career and most recent race results. In Georgia, the SoS website is your best resource. To find individual race results:
    1. Visit the Election Results page and select the year of interest (start with the latest results and work your way down if you are unsure).
    2. For local city/county races: Download/view the Vote Totals by Precinct information. In Georgia, this may be the only way to research results for some local races ("news" organizations typically don't report the final tally).
    3. For state-wide races. You will need to re-visit the Election Results page for state-wide results.
    4. Search for the elected official by last name. I was surprised by how many of my elected officials ran unopposed!

I hope you found this meager guide helpful. I truly believe that the Campaign for Liberty has provided us with the training and guidance that we need to achieve and defend freedom in our lifetimes. Now we just have to get to work doing it.

Poll: How much of the training have you completed?

Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
None

A letter from Saxby Chambliss concerning the PATRIOT Act and the JUSTICE Act:

Dear Mr. Adams:

Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts regarding the PATRIOT Act.  I appreciate hearing from you.

Since its passage following the September 11, 2001 attacks, the Provide Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (PATRIOT) Act has been an integral tool  in a number of successful operations to protect innocent Americans from the deadly plans of terrorists dedicated to destroying America and our way of life.

I believe this legislation is consistent with existing civil liberties and embodies a spirit of prevention and balance.  The PATRIOT Act streamlines anti-terrorism law so that it is consistent with other areas of criminal enforcement.  For example, the legislation allows federal agents to obtain library, medical, or financial records with a court ordered search warrant.  These kinds of searches have routinely been granted in other types of criminal investigations.  The PATRIOT Act also updated laws to reflect advances in technology.  For instance, the legislation allows intelligence officials to employ roving wiretaps. A roving wiretap follows an individual to intercept all calls made, regardless of location, in order to track individuals who change locations frequently to evade authorities.  Again, this is already legal in criminal investigations; this bill expands that authority to the intelligence community in an effort to stem terrorism.

The PATRIOT Act contains built-in reporting requirements and sunset provisions to safeguard civil liberties. Three such provisions are due to sunset on December 31, 2009: the provision which allows the government to seek a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) order from a court for an individual suspected of terrorism but who has no known connection to a terrorist organization; the  provision regarding roving wiretap authority; and Section 215, which permits the government to seek business records after a FISA court order is sought and approved. The PATRIOT Act was reauthorized in the 109th Congress, (P.L. 109-177) making critical national security provisions permanent, including those that helped in dismantling the pre-9/11 communications barriers between intelligence and law enforcement. Importantly, the reauthorization bill provided additional tools for securing our mass transportation systems and seaports. It also closed loopholes that jeopardized our ability to put a stop to terrorist financing. Finally, the reauthorization bill created a National Security Division at the Department of Justice to further safeguard America against another terrorist attack.

All of the PATRIOT Act provisions are subjected to rigorous congressional oversight.  The Department of Justice is required to submit to Congress annual reports on the various provisions in the bill, and multiple congressional committees regularly request additional information to ensure that American's civil liberties are protected and the PATRIOT Act is a useful tool for disrupting terrorism.  We have found that the PATRIOT Act has greatly curtailed terrorists' abilities to operate.  We are winning the war on terrorism, and we owe much of our success, including the fact that there has not been an attack against the homeland since September 11, 2001, to anti-terrorism legislation like the PATRIOT Act.

I supported passage of the original and reauthorized PATRIOT Act, and continue to monitor its effectiveness in our overall war on terrorism through my work on the Senate Committee on Select Intelligence and the Armed Services Committee.  I believe that it is important to equip our intelligence personnel with the means to apprehend criminals who would inflict pain and suffering on our nation.  However, the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution is a protection that I and all Americans value highly.  I will do everything in my power to protect the civil liberties enjoyed by American citizens, while enabling the intelligence community to do its job.

After recently reading an opinion article about Republicans (basically naming Mike Huckabee as the "savior of the party") gaining back the advantage in Washington, I often wonder if people know what the real problems are, namely corruption and that on both sides of the aisle.

Democrats have an agenda.

So do Republicans.

It stopped being about the people of this country a long time ago. It is now about power and control and making the other party look bad. Republicans and Democrats have long ago abandoned the principles that made this country great such as limited government, a free economy and a non-interventionist foreign policy. Now the word democrat has been given a functional definition of socialism by the right and the word republican has been given the definition of warmonger by the left.
Thank goodness these two parties are not the only choices we have.

The voices of liberty and principled government are gaining volume and you are a part of this great reawakening of American ideals.

I urge you as a free American to think, to be a person of principle not political party, to use your vote based on conscience and conviction not fads or trends.

A look at healthcare reform from a moral standpoint, link is here:

http://www.catholic.org/politics/story.php?id=34354

The message of the article is a great one, reminding us that reform can occur because of basic human goodness and morality as opposed to government interventions which will only weaken the basic dignity and liberty of us as humans.

Some good quotes to share:

Pope John Paul II wrote: "By intervening directly and depriving society of its responsibility, the Social Assistance State leads to a loss of human energies and an inordinate increase of public agencies, which are dominated more by bureaucratic ways of thinking than by concern for serving their clients, and which are accompanied by an enormous increase in spending." (Pope John Paul II, Centesimus Annus #48)

Another:

Pope Benedict writes: "The State which would provide everything, absorbing everything into itself, would ultimately become a mere bureaucracy incapable of guaranteeing the very thing which the suffering person-every person-needs: namely, loving personal concern. We do not need a State which regulates and controls everything, but a State which, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, generously acknowledges and supports initiatives arising from the different social forces and combines spontaneity with closeness to those in need. ... In the end, the claim that just social structures would make works of charity superfluous masks a materialist conception of man: the mistaken notion that man can live ‘by bread alone' (Mt 4:4; cf. Dt 8:3)-a conviction that demeans man and ultimately disregards all that is specifically human." (Pope Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas Est #28)

This is a  personal favorite:

The right of every individual to access health care does not necessarily suppose an obligation on the part of the government to provide it. Yet in our American culture, Catholic teaching about the "right" to healthcare is sometimes confused with the structures of "entitlement." The teaching of the Universal Church has never been to suggest a government socialization of medical services. Rather, the Church has asserted the rights of every individual to have access to those things most necessary for sustaining and caring for human life, while at the same time insisting on the personal responsibility of each individual to care properly for his or her own health.

Over about the last 40 years health care costs have skyrocketed. Insurance costs have gotten so expensive that many have decided to risk going uninsured. Reform is obviously needed. However, in order to have good reform - to get rid of what is corrupt and defective while also lowering costs - the source of the problem must be correctly determined.

Some fail to even consider the question and only demand that government do something to fix the problem. This has been called politician's logic; "Something must be done. This is something, therefore we must do it." The question is what caused the problem, too much government intervention or too little?

The truth is that the problem stems from government intervention and so can only truly be fixed by getting government out of health care. I agree with Anthony Gregory, who recently stated, "In the 1960s, more than 80% of Americans had health insurance, and most of those who didn't saw no need for it, since health services were quite inexpensive. Doctors did house calls. Medications were affordable. A hospital visit cost a few days' pay, not a month's or year's pay. This superior system could be restored, if only the government got out of the way. Phase out Medicare, Medicaid, subsidies, licensing and the FDA and we'd be a much healthier nation."

No one knows for sure what health care reform will be enacted, but don't expect that! In Bill Huff's words, "If you want the best and least expensive anything, get the government out of your equation." Any health care reform that is not in the direction of a free market will be destined for failure, and will be used as an excuse for further government involvement. Many politicians have openly stated on video that their goal is getting legislation through that will lead to a single payer system.

Some people say the problem with the health care system is a failure of capitalism. Quite frankly, these people don't know what they're talking about. I can't put it any better than Irwin Schiff did in his book The Biggest Con:  "The American public must wake up and realize that we are now living under a system that is a combination of socialism and fascism." And that was written in 1976!

The reason prices have been rising over time is because the government's partner in crime, the Federal Reserve, creates money out of thin air. This inflation makes prices rise, but not equally across all sectors of the economy. Areas where government spends the most, like health care, see much higher price increases.

There are many reasons why more government involvement in health care is a bad idea. It is all unconstitutional, contrary to the propaganda you hear. Of course, almost everything the federal government does is unconstitutional, so its a moot point. End all the government's unconstitutional activities and with the trillions saved people would be able to fill the gaps in health care with private charity.

Another reason not to have more government involvement in health care is because the country is bankrupt! The national debt including unfunded liabilities is at least $70 trillion. Don't believe the absolute nonsense that the government plan will save money so it won't end up costing anything. Walter Williams notes, "At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion." The Federal government predicted Medicare would cost an inflation-adjusted $12 billion by 1990. "In 1990, Medicare topped $107 billion. That's nine times Congress' prediction. How much confidence can we have in any cost estimates by the White House or Congress?"

Besides being unconstitutional, it is immoral. French economist Frederic Bastiat described it like this: "But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.

Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law - which may be an isolated case - is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system.

The person who profits from this law will complain bitterly, defending his acquired rights. He will claim that the state is obligated to protect and encourage his particular industry; that this procedure enriches the state because the protected industry is thus able to spend more and to pay higher wages to the poor workingmen.

Do not listen to this sophistry by vested interests. The acceptance of these arguments will build legal plunder into a whole system. In fact, this has already occurred. The present-day delusion is an attempt to enrich everyone at the expense of everyone else; to make plunder universal under the pretense of organizing it."

We have failed to heed Bastiat's warning, but he was hardly the only person to warn us. Thomas Jefferson said,

"To preserve independence we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt...If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses, and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers."

Choose the market for health care reform. You have nothing to lose but your chains.

Please join me on Sept 24th at the Johns Creek Georgia Municipal Court at 9:00 a.m. - actually - that's my time to appear and we need to show up earlier if you want a seat.

Johns Creek has only existed for a couple of years.  This area used to be unincorporated Alpharetta and unincorporated Duluth.  We used Fulton County laws and services.  We were all fine.  But then a rumor started that IF we incorporated into our own city then WE would be able to keep our $$ here PLUS have the ability to say NO to every single new strip mall and subdivision that wanted to move in.  For 10 years now it seemed that every bit of green space was being mowed down and another subdivision or strip mall would be built.  We only need so many nail shops and dry cleaners and roads, runoff, schools, etc. infrastructure was never taken into account when they built a new subdivison.  Consquently, we started to have traffic problems, trailers at brand new schools and backyards that would flood when they didn't used to.  So the solution to this was to take the control away from Fulton County - because they just wanted our money.  Well - This was a bait and switch.  Our little area became a city.  Our taxes went up, subdivisions and strip malls continued to get approved, traffic became worse and this little city government is running a muck with making new rules for everything from having multiple and conflicting rules for chicken ownership to requiring permits for everything under the sun.  So, we unknowingly allowed a government to get created that is now going way beyond the bounds and of course not keeping any of those promises!

Help me on September 24th at Johns Creek Georgia Municipal Court.  I want to explain that having more than one law on something - allowing the city to pick in choose to prohibit - is wrong and out of bounds.  If we don't stand up in the beginning, we all know how difficult it is to stand up later when they are even more powerful!

Today I delivered yet another handful of HR 1207 petitions to Rep. John Lewis (D, GA-5). This is (at least) the 2nd such delivery, and I hope that Mr. Lewis will soon take the hint that he needs to co-sponsor the bill.

I set out from work at around 10:30am and arrived at my destination after a short ride on MARTA. Mr. Lewis' office on the 19th floor of The Equitable Building was mostly empty, as expected, but I received a friendly greeting from the one staffer on duty, Ben.

After I explained that I was there to deliver petitions encouraging Mr. Lewis to support an audit of the Federal Reserve, Ben stated that they had heard of the bill. The constiuents of the 5th District have heard of it too was my reply. Ben assured me that the petitions would be promptly delivered to Mr. Lewis. Ben also mentioned our online petitioning efforts; your voices are being heard!

I then presented Ben with a copy of End the Fed intended for Mr. Lewis. Ben noted that Mr. Lewis already had a copy of one of Ron Paul's other books. I can't help but hope that my representative is reading these books with a critical eye and an open mind.

I left soon after to make my way back to work, mission accomplished.

I want to thank all of the volunteers who helped to collect the signatures. Don't fret if you didn't make today's deadline; you can still sign the online petition (and share it with your friends): http://www.campaignforliberty.com/campaigns/auditthefed.php

We have "one of our own" -- Casey Tucker, who was active in the Ron Paul for President campaign and is now the Baldwin County Coordinator for the Georgia Campaign for Liberty -- who has "stepped up to the plate" and "stepped out" with a willingness to run for political office.

This is a BOLD step to take -- and now we need to help him take it.

Let me tell you a little about his race -- then I'll tell you why he is able to WIN it, and how you and I can help make that happen.

I just received this letter in the mail from a doctor I visited about a year ago.  It's another in a long line of stories that show that more government control means less choice and less freedom to live as we see fit.  The winners are the control freaks in D.C. and the economic pirates sitting atop the corporations that have a stranglehold on our healthcare, while the losers are everybody else who would like to have top-notch, cutting-edge healthcare at affordable prices:

Dear Patients and Friends,

It is with great reluctance and sadness that I announce that I will be closing my practice in the Atlanta area on Oct 1st of this year.  I have been in solo practice here for 20 years.  It has been a wonderful and very rewarding experience for me.  I feel like so many of you are like family members.  In fact, my philosophy in my practice has always been to treat everyone like they are family and to do for you only what I would do for my own family.  I WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!

Medicare makes up about 50% of my practice.  Medicare recipients need our services the most.  Over the last 10 years, Medicare has cut my fees by over 70%.  The HMO's and PPO's have followed suit and cut their fees accordingly.  The Managed Care Companies have made my life miserable with constantly refusing tests, X-Rays and procedures that I felt were necessary for good patient care.  They have also delayed payments demanding more and more documentation.  They purposefully have given confusing answers and have given inaccurate information on how to expedite claims.  It was always to their benefit because the longer the delay, the greater their profits.  If you read the financial news, you will see the Managed Care Companies have made record profits in the last several years.  This system did not allow Doctors to have collective bargaining against the Managed Care Companies and certainly not against Medicare.

The economic reality that I face is that I can no longer run this practice with the increasing expenses of malpractice, rent and salaries with lower payments.  Medicare is planning to cut Doctor's salaries by 21% more at the end of this year.  The only way a practice can make any money in this system is to run 50-70 patients through a day.  I refuse to practice "Assembly Line Medicine."

I want you to know the realities I have experienced as you hear politicians saying that if you are happy with your healthcare then you have nothing to fear with a National Health Program.  In reality, they have been manipulating your health care system behind your back for the last 10 years.

What will be the impact of these policies on your health care?  The first effect is that you doctor will have less time for you because he has to see more patients to make ends meet.  Secondly, it will be hard to find a physician.  Doctors are quitting in record numbers.  In 1999 there were 12,000 (doctors who practice his speciality) in the country and now there are less than 9,000.

With the national health debate now underway, I see things only getting worse with more government controls to prevent physicians from acting in the best interest of patients.

These trends will shortly lead to mediocre, rationed care with long waits.

I will start a new (specialty) practice in Florida.  A Physicians Association that can negotiate for better fees and protect my ability to place patients first will employ me.  I have family and many friends in the area.

(closing omitted)

Aaron Krowne has posted an excellent analysis of the recent conviction of Robert Kahre, the Las Vegas businessman who paid his employees in U.S. Gold Eagles. It is sobering to realize that while Gold and Silver Eagles are undeniably legal tender, the free-market value of the precious metal content can lead to trouble with the tax authorities--if you change the valuation! I'll let Aaron explain.

Hi!

Kelse Moen is working for the Leadership Institute (a Washington organization that trains and funds conservative college activist groups).  He is assigned to the Atlanta area and is looking for conservative or libertarian college students who would be interested in starting a new club or a conservative newspaper.  He is particularly interested in starting Young Americans for Liberty groups.  His email address is kelse.moen@gmail.com, and he is on Facebook, if you'd like to contact him.

Thanks!

Mary Lou

It has been suggested http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2009/08/column-kids-with-autism-deserve-better-.html here that autistic students should be receiving federal vouchers for education freedom.  I contest that uniform income tax breaks should be granted for homeschooling or private tutoring/schooling, not in addition to, but in lieu of, any federal funding for education---and should be granted regardless of neuropsychological "labelling."  This free-market solution would be in keeping with the need for real healthcare reform and budgetary limits imposed on a failing state.

Myself a student struggling with asperger's, I say with certainty that the public education system was a hostile, poisonous environment---not simply for the challenge in demonstrating aptitude but for the content I so begrudgingly swallowed---secularized pseudo-books shoved in front of my face until I pretended to read them, always absorbed in myself, ever secretly entertaining the thought of jumping out the window and into traffic so there would be no more of the nonsense.

It was, however, when I began homeschooling that I finally refreshed my childhood memory of what knowledge was. It was then that I realized that however a few psychological experiments here and there with pictures and rote exercises and memorization may turn the tide of beaurocratic thought, children learn from /books/. And it was poring through primary sources and arguments, reading critically and spontaneously (not being a set of spare ears for the state and their hired leftist writing committees) that I learned the truth: statism is not the answer to a failing education system. Rather, is the /cause/, the ailment, and privatization the cure.
If we want to reform our failing medical care system AND our education system, we must hack government off at the knees. Only then can we find competitive free-market alternatives to the sprawling and overregulated systems they've created for us. We must force competition into the marketplace and we must eliminate federal education laws...or we will face a downhill spiral from an already corrupt system.

On a final note---and I speak from experience---students with asperger's possess durable talent. Their survival instinct, as I have encountered it, is in modern times basically unparalleled---this has a lot to do with our amazing stubbornness and tendency towards originality (or, at least, many of us---Yeats and Einstein both had Asperger, as did many, many others whose success is inarguable. In fact so inseparably conjoined are our modern conceptions of analytical/creative intelligence and empathetic disability that some have suggested a recent breakthrough in human evolution as a potential source of the "disorder"). If it seems as though we are not being accommodated, perhaps then the grasp of the educational machine is weakening, and that is a message of hope.

Yesterday I decided to attend the Healthcare Freedom Rally at Centennial Olympic Park. The event was organized by a coalition of several groups, including the folks at WeThePeopleRevolution.com and featured several well known speakers and a panel of doctors and other healthcare industry “experts”. Organizers had fenced off both sections of the “Great Lawn” with two entrances adjacent to the “Centennial Plaza”. The stage was setup at the bottom of the hill opposite the entrance. The weather was an oppressive 90+ degrees with high humidity, but a nice crowd had gathered for the rally by the time I had arrived. Organizers estimated that at least 12,000 individuals attended throughout the afternoon. My goal was to gather as many signatures for HR 1207 as possible from the fine folks of the 5th Congressional District.

After having my backpack searched, I was greeted by a gauntlet of volunteers handing out literature for various causes and candidates for political office. Obviously I wasn't the only person eager to gather support from like-minded individuals at the event. A lady I know to be active in the local Republican Party, Michelle, was stumping for Melvin Everson, which she attributed as “the only Republican in the race”. From what I can tell, Mr. Everson is the only candidate in the race from any party at this time. Michelle's strategy was to hand out free bubble gum and make her spiel as attendees helped themselves to the gum; I thought this was pretty clever. There were also several volunteers for Ray McBerry, a couple for Karen Handel, and a few for Gerry Purcell.

After finding Ike (who was also collecting HR 1207 signatures), I positioned myself towards the end of one of the gauntlets. As attendees approached, I made my best effort to get their attention without being too overbearing. The introduction usually went something like this:

Me: "Hello, how are you doing today?

Them: "Fine, thank you."

Me: "Do you happen to be from the 5th District?" [Points to large printout of 5th District map]

Them: "Uhm..." [Puzzled look at map]

I would estimate that less than 10% of the people that I managed to greet were actually from the 5th District, but  nearly 100% of the 5th District citizens ended up signing the petition. Door-to-door canvassing is obviously less complicated since you know ahead of time which district the person lives in.

For those that expressed doubt about the petition's potential effectiveness with Mr. Lewis, I told them about our success with Mr. Scott in GA-13. Impressed, they usually asked for more information about the Campaign for Liberty. Only one person asked for some time to think about it before signing the petition. I gave the gentleman an Audit the Fed slimjim to read, and he came back within five minutes and signed. I assured everyone that the Campaign for Liberty would not be collecting their information; the information was simply for Rep. Lewis to verify that each signature represented an actual voter. I also gave each person my C4L business card and told them to call or email me if they had any questions. Nobody asked to sign up for the Campaign for Liberty on the spot, but I came prepared with a separate sign-up sheet for that. Next time I intend to (gently) push the sign-up sheet after getting a petition signature.

At one point in the afternoon, Gerry Purcell came through the gate. After spotting my Campaign for Liberty shirt, he came over to introduce himself to me. As we were shaking hands I told him it was nice to finally meet him after hearing so much about him. He stated that he hoped it was all good things, to which I replied “mostly”. He of course wanted to know what kind of bad things I had heard, and I quipped “Well, you are running for political office!”. We both had a good laugh. I think it is telling that candidates are starting to recognize the Campaign for Liberty as a political force. We must be forever vigilant and not allow our genuinely grass-roots organization to be co-opted by political insiders of questionable motives. More importantly, we must never allow ourselves to become those kinds of political insiders!

After a while I took a break to visit with friends and watch Herman Cain host a “rapid fire” question and answer session with the panel of experts. Herman was quite the crowd pleaser.

Overall I think the day was a great success. Ike and I got numerous signatures in support of HR 1207, and the attendees were galvanized against the false hope of socialized medicine. These rallies represent a great opportunity to network and grow our membership, but it is the hard work of Campaign for Liberty members that gets real results.

So now I can check one off my "bucket list" -- I've been kicked out of a public "town hall"  meeting for doing nothing (complete with police escort).  Sweeet.

The meeting was last night, at the Georgia 4th Congressional district in Clarkston, held by Congressman Hank Johnson (D).  The facilities of the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College were used.

A number of us liberty-minded folks (C4L and otherwise), and some GOP faithful showed up to ensure, at the minimum, skepticism accounted for and to see a real debate fostered over the proposed national health care legislation.  As far as I know there was no "right wing" or otherwise organized effort to "swamp" the meetings.

By contrast, it was obvious that organized left-wing groups turned out in force.  People sporting "Teamster" colors were plentiful, as well as Obama acolytes and "single payer" health care system advocacy groups.

The original time for the meeting was 7pm.  Within the day before, it was mysteriously moved up to 6:15 -- perhaps to make sure that working people hit the maximum rush hour.  No matter; I got there around 5:30, so I got an early-enough place in line to get into the main auditorium.   It was pathetically small for the crowd lined up "around the block" to attend the meeting, so only a small portion of the crowd got in.  Me and some C4Lers were among them.  Others ended up in overflow rooms, having become spectators, watching the proceedings on large TVs.

I first got a bad feeling about the whole event being orchestrated when police started warning people not to bring cameras in.  No cameras?  At a public meeting on a public facility?  That's odd.  Well, they weren't going to stop me from making a voice recording using my small sansa mp3 player.

My next signal something was "off" was when, upon entering, I had my pamphlets and fliers confiscated from me by the police.  No explanation was given, just that I "couldn't have them".  This annoyed me, because I had been handed some useful campaign materials and other informational leaflets, including one which had bullet points critically-examining the proposed legislation.  But I had little choice.

The reason for this confiscation became clear once we were inside and seated: we were given instead "official" materials from Johnson and the Democratic party and the Obama administration, including a glossy promotional piece supporting the legislation.  Surprise, surprise.

The first part of the "meeting" was relatively calm.  Johnson of course gave his speech on why we needed this legislation, correctly pointing out high costs, declining coverage, and declining quality, but also excoriating health insurance companies for being "profiteering" (taking sure to make note of the executives "getting paid millions") and saying that "deregulation like the financial sector" was responsible for the problems in the health care sector.   It was pretty much the usual left-wing "politics as usual", with zero admission whatsoever of the role government interference has played in creating the problem (which I would define as a government-protected cartel of health insurers -- privatized, but not free market).  None of this was any surprise.

We then moved on to the panelists, virtually all of whom were biased strongly towards a "solution" in the proposed, nationalized format.  The one exception, second to last, was a Dr. Todd Williamson, from the Medical Association of Georgia, who advocated fixing the tax code, making people's health insurance dollars portable and as tax-free as they are for employers, and moving to a system where people's health insurance follows them and is not tied to a job (largely solving the "pre-existing condition" problem).  He strongly opposed putting government between people and their doctors, and suggested that like in medicare, a government option for health insurance in general would soon turn into virtually the "only option".  He got a rousing ovation from us and a large portion of the crowd -- the first and strongest standing ovation of the night.   He was, however, the token dissenter.

We then moved on to two pre-screened citizen testimonials, presented from the stage.   One was a woman who had chronic illness in her family with her children, and could not even remotely afford health insurance, with costs reaching astronomical levels (as high as $3000 a month just for premiums, she said).  Another was a woman who ran a nursing service, who said she could only afford to provide a very poor health plan for her employees because of the cost.  She advocated a public option to remove this burden.

These are of course characteristic problem cases with our current dysfunctional system, and few serious critics dispute these issues.   However, no cases were brought forward that illustrate how the problem is due to the tax structure and other regulatory quirks.  For example, my insurance premiums (the total of the employer part plus "my" part -- both of which are really my part) went down from over $400 a month to about $100 a month -- for the exact same high-deductible plan -- when I left my last major employer and became self-employed.  This case is typical and shows how the inflexibility and tax bias of the employer-linked health insurance system is used to inflate premiums, which in turn inflates all medical costs.  But, no coverage of this was presented -- perhaps because that would show that the government's tax code and other aspects of regulation are largely responsible.

In my observation, government is intimately involved in creating the existing broken-down system, but it has not even remotely fessed up to this role (in constrast to Hank Johnson's blaise assertions, there has never been a health care "deregulation" -- only more regulation).  That is my main criticism with the proposed health care reform plan and the general debate around the issue -- you cannot solve a problem until you understand what caused it, and "evil health insurance profiteers" falls a bit short.  I am not necessarily against a government option, as long as it is not structured so that it edges out free market health insurance for most of us.  But any government option put in place without solving the structural cost issues of the private portion of the system will inevitably gobble up most of, if not the entire market.  This threatens to simply become another area where the government comes in to provide "something for nothing", but fails to contain costs for society as a whole, and simply ends up printing money to make up the gap -- a cost everyone pays but few see.

This has not worked so well in housing or education.  Shouldn't we be worried about the feat being reproduced in health care?  That was my concern, at least.

Finally, we moved to floor comments.  However, only residents of the 4th District were to be allowed to comment with priority, so I didn't bother to get up and make my comments above.  I decided to just listen.

The comments were an interesting mix.  It did seem that a majority complained of health care costs and simply wanted a government option to be provided so they could have these costs eliminated.  Some were obviously "career welfare recipients" -- so their perspective is inevitably going to be less concerned with nominal prices and more concerned with having expenses in general eliminated.  But some were not -- such as a gentleman who reported his wife and new baby were kicked out of the hospital a day early after a C-section -- because insurance didn't cover the extra day.

These comments, again, were typical, and certainly represented accurate complaints about the cost and coverage pressures of the existing "system".  These are the things no one is arguing.

But there were some insightful points from some people that I didn't know, and did not appear to have any particular political affiliation.

One Asian woman was a doctor and supported reform, but expressed concern at the cost, especially given the huge deficits we are accumulating for various bailouts.   She also expressed concern with many millions of people still being left uninsured, as well as millions being forced off their existing plans (Johnson and his aide replied that "things had changed" since the earlier version of the bill, and all concerns would be taken care of).

An elderly black man expressed frustration at the lack of "good information" on the proposed legislation, complaining of nothing but "sound bites" from all sides.  He expressed a desire for straight "answers" on what is going to happen to medicare (Johnson assured there would be no change).

A black woman seemed peeved at all of the people who had come before her begging for more welfare.  She said she had always "supported herself", and told Johnson to "woman up" to the insurance companies, as they would be the ones to "truly benefit" from this legislation.  She suggested that the problems could be fixed without any cost to the federal government with mandates requiring certain aspects of coverage (such as children, domestic partners), and that Congress's health plan should be offered generally by the same insurers.  She made a point that prices seemed to be based on some sort of insurance racket.

A caucasian man announced himself as a Catholic, acknowledged there were problems, and explained that (based on principles borrowed from Catholicism) we should seek to solve them at a more local level before going directly for a national solution (Johnson replied by asserting that the problems could "only be solved at the national level.")

And perhaps the most important general comment from those queued up came from a gentleman (I cannot recall his appearance) who expressed confusion at the many bills, but asked if we could somehow have a town meeting when a single bill had been settled on, but before it had passed.

Tellingly, Hank Johnson sputtered and bumbled, but finally responded that no, it was not likely we could actually debate the bill that was going to be passed.  But, he said, we could certainly have a town hall meeting after the bill had passed!

This drew laughs and hackles from the entire crowd.  Johnson responded bizarrely by launching into diversionary criticism of the Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans, capping off with an exhortation that we "have gotta do something" (nationally, of course).

This was perhaps the most telling interaction about how the whole system works: we are to be swamped by a confusion of conflicting principles and directives and details, and end up arguing with each other about things that perhaps are in only one version of a bill or another (or none at all), which may or may not appear in a final bill.   Then the bill will be passed quickly by congress, after its usual horse trading, and we'll be unravelling the monstrosity for months if not years to come.  This process belies utter contempt for the citizenry and perhaps reveals that our government has reached a stage where it simply cannot function if proposed legislation is clearly and methodically open to scrutiny.

Anyway...

The session was in its final few minutes when the "big confrontation" happened.  While the "critics" had been booing, cheering, and heckling Johnson and others from the floor the whole time (and the whole audience was certainly guilty of applausing and cheering out of turn), it was not until C4Ler Sean Mangieri bellowed out "where in the Constitution does it authorize you to do this?" that some sort of invisible line was crossed.  Johnson began responding, fumbling a bogus justification that the "general welfare clause" gives the government authority to do anything, but apparently the order had been given.  The police came over and tapped me on the shoulder, apparently thinking it was me who had made the remark; to which I said "I didn't say anything."  Various people in the audience pointed to Sean, who was sitting next to me, and he was "tapped out" by the police.  However, they returned anyway and told me I had to go as well and this was my "last chance".  When I protested again that I didn't say anything, the reply was "it doesn't matter, they want you out."

Two other people we know were thrown out in this sweep as well, one of whom had just been "warned" not to shout any more comments, but was ejected without having said anything additional.

I have the whole session up until that point recorded (audio only; 23MB mp3).

An AP story and CBS piece are available which quote from Mr. Mangieri.

Altogether, I am very disappointed with what passes for "debate" in this country on pressing issues of national concern and relevance to our basic freedoms.  It is obvious from this interaction that Johnson, like so many others in Congress, has made up his mind and is acting as part of the party machinery.  It seems he expected only to get a "rubber stamp" from "friendlies" in the audience, and inasmuch as that did not happen, police were brought in to intimidate and eject.   His comments about not being able to debate the final bill, and not being restricted by the Constitution, really do tell all.

UPDATE: Here is a short YouTube video that a fellow attendee put together over the above soundtrack, with some snapshots of the event and "follow along" subtitles of Johnson's torturing of the Constitution.

To audit the FED! It would uncover money trails. It would answer many questions that we have. The facts will shock and surprize us. The truth has been whispered but has not been confirmed.

Yesterday, I sent out the letter against Obamacare provided by C4L to send to all representatives. The following is Senator Isakson's response. It looks promising and I hope this means he will vote against it should, God forbid, Obamacare make it to the Senate.

Dear Mr. Thornton:

Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform.  I appreciate the comments you have shared with me and the opportunity to respond.

As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee as well as a former small business owner, I am aware of the problems our nation faces regarding health care, and am sensitive to the struggles the average, hard-working American faces when trying to gain access to adequate and affordable health care. I agree we must look for solutions to find ways to provide affordable health care to individuals who lack access to health insurance through an employer.

On July 15, I voted against a health care reform bill that was crafted exclusively by Senate Democrats.  Republicans were shut out of the drafting of the bill, and numerous attempts to improve the bill in Committee were blocked by Committee Democrats.  The bill passed out of Committee by a vote of 13 to 10.  As written, this bill will do nothing to alleviate the financial burden of health care costs or raise the standard of care. This flawed health care reform bill will cost U.S. taxpayers over $1 trillion dollars and will place a massive financial burden on Georgia and other states to pay for a proposed 50 percent expansion of Medicaid eligibility.

I believe that the government-run "public option" plan included in this bill will end up decreasing choice and quality for consumers.  It also will place the federal government in unfair competition with private health insurers and managed care providers, as it will be impossible for private entities to compete fairly with the government that regulates them, taxes them, and is exempt from having to pay taxes itself.  I also oppose a mandate in the bill that will require employers with more than 25 workers to provide insurance or pay a penalty.  I believe that provision would force many small businesses to eliminate jobs.

With a likely cost of more than $1 trillion, I am disappointed that the Committee rejected several amendments designed to reduce frivolous medical lawsuits.  These lawsuits dive up health care costs by forcing physicians to purchase expensive malpractice policies and practice defensive medicine by ordering wasteful tests and procedure.

This bill will also expand the number of individuals eligible for Medicaid by allowing individuals earning up to 150 percent of the federal poverty level to be eligible for full Medicaid benefits.  Currently, Medicaid is available to only those who earn up to 100 percent of the poverty level, meaning that the new plan represents a 50 percent increase in Medicaid.  When Medicaid was first created in 1968, Georgia's total Medicaid spending was nearly $7.7 million, or 1 percent of all state spending.  In 2008, Georgia's total Medicaid spending was over $2.4 billion, or 12 percent of all state spending.  This new proposal would cost Georgia and other states billions of additional dollars to meet the 50 percent increase for their required share of Medicaid costs.

There are many good proposals from the Republican side of the aisle on how to address health care reform in creative ways.  Many of these proposals focus on health care coverage through a private market provider-an idea that I support-rather than single-payer government insurance.  Access to insurance through a private entity will increase choice for the consumer and quality for the patient.  Numerous Republican amendments designed to reign in out-of-control spending and achieve true, effective reform were rejected.

              &
nbsp; I am a co-sponsor of S.1099, the Patient's Choice Act of 2009, which seeks to strengthen the relationship between patient and doctors by using choice and competition, rather than health care rationing and restriction, to contain costs and ensure affordable health care for all Americans.  For more information on the Patient Choice Act please visit my website at
http://isakson.senate.gov/healthcare.html.

Thank you again for contacting me and for your advocacy on behalf of health care reform.  Please visit my webpage at http://isakson.senate.gov/ for more information on the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-newsletter.

Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson
United States Senator

Well, there must be something in the water around here -- for the second week in a row there have been protests right here in little ol' Thomasville, GA against ObamaCare.  In a seemingly unorganized effort, not led by anyone except concerned citizens, the area has come together to show their dissatisfaction with the way things are going in DC.

I was lucky enough to stop by the protest for a little while and talk with many of my fellow Americans who are waking up to the fact that they actually have a political voice in this country.  With no more than a 2 sentence mention in the local paper, people started showing up outside of Congressman Sanford Bishop's Office at lunch time to sign petitions and waive signs.

I took the opportunity to pass out fliers and promote the Campaign for Liberty to all who were interested.  Several people had never heard of C4L  and seemed very intrigued by the organization as a whole.  I just thought I would share this little bit of good news with all the other C4L'ers out there and post a couple pictures I snapped with my phone.

I have been very encouraged by turnout lately and can't wait to meet you all face to face at a Tea Party or other event some time soon!

Below, I have reprinted an email I sent to a friend of mine. Please feel free to share this with others so long as you attribute it as my work.

Dear Friend,

I will give you my take on the healthcare scenario.

Firstly, you must realize that the upper echelons of our government, as well as almost every seat in the Senate and the House of Representatives, are occupied by sociopaths who cooperate in long term strategic planning. This is not a conspiracy as much as it is a business plan. To people on the bottom, it feels like a conspiracy because we are never allowed to know what the CEO and the board of directors are up to. We just see them flying around in expensive private jets and eating caviar in front of the factory line workers.

When I say these people have a long term planning model, I am not talking about fifteen years or thirty years. I mean they have a long term planning strategy that looks 150-200 years into the future. Some people worth looking into are the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds.

The situation with healthcare is critical in the megalomaniacal, diabolic and sociopathic quest for world domination. On a side note, most people don't realize the government has been medicating people for several decades under the guise of making their teeth stronger. Fluoride is one of the worst poisons we could possibly put in our bodies. Before WWII, fluoride was regarded as a toxin. Teflon was developed specially to lubricate machines that used hydrofluoric acid (hydorfluoric acid is extremely corrosive even though it is a weak acid, meaning that the bond between the positively charged hydrogen ion and the negatively charged fluoride ion is very strong and the molecule does not fully separate in water). Exposure to fluoride is deadly, but when the aluminum manufacturing industry produced huge amounts of it during WWII, a disposal program had to be developed that could handle the volume of fluoride being produced. In short, this is why fluoride entered the water supply. I think it is also worth noting that fluoride ion is the active ingredient in prozac.

The reason I bring up the fluoride scenario is that our government has long insisted that fluoridation of the water is for our benefit. Clearly, this is not truth. In short, the government has for 60+ years been feeding the population the active ingredient in prozac. Do you think this is possibly connected to the dumbing down of America? I do.

But that aside, if the government is telling us it is for our health that they fluoridate the water, and there is no public outcry, and people still continue to drink the water, they are accepting that the government medicates them with every drop of water they drink from the tap. This is the longest running government health care program in world history.

So if the first example of government medicating us is to feed us poison and insist it's good for us, what could fully socialized medicine look like? Quite simply, more of the same.

The first interventions by government into the health care market came in the 60's with medicare and medicaid under Lyndon Johnson's Great Society program, which, not coincidentally, sounds eerily similar to the Chinese Great Leap Forward under Mao Zedong. It should be noted that Lyndon Johnson was a wide open socialist and he worked steadily to erode property rights and to abridge the freedom of healthcare.

Following the distortions in the market from the Great Society, HMO's were later introduced by government legislation. Contrary to popular belief, HMO's are not an invention of the free market. Free individuals collaborating of their own free will could not possibly produce such a dehumanizing system. Rather, HMO's are the result of the legislation that created them.

Also contrary to popular belief, before government began interfering in the health care market, people were not going without medical care. Instead, the US had a wide reaching network of charity hospitals that provided care for free to those who could not afford it. With the advent of government medicine, many of these hospitals were forced to close their doors, depriving people of their valuable services. The general population has also been misled to believe that the government will pick up the tab if some one goes to a hospital, and this has made people less likely to donate to the remaining charity hospitals.

The difference between government provided health care and charity hospitals cannot be over emphasized. Charity is a function of the free market, where free individuals cooperate voluntarily and contribute of their own volition in a manner and magnitude that is personally affordable without causing undue stress to one's personal finances. Government funding is a function of coercive extortion, known as taxation, where individuals are forced under duress to fund bureaucratic adventures, and individuals must often contribute more through taxation than they can truly afford, thereby impoverishing them at the hands of the state.

But back to the subject of government health care. In short, we already have it. It exists at the VA, for those on medicare, and for those on medicaid. Unfortunately, people have not realized that the VA provides horrible medical services and they are content to ask for more low quality services. This variance in quality between health care provided by the free market and health care provided by the government is akin to the variance in quality between fresh free range organic beef and a McDonalds sausage patty.

In the end, the politicians promoting this scheme are not advocating government health care because they want to make sure you are healthy and you have a long life. Instead the object is control. The end result will be control over your every move. If a government doctor one day insists that you need psychotropic medication, you may be forced to take the medication, regardless of your personal objection. Because whatever industry you work in likely receives government funding, the government will threaten you with your job if you refuse to take medications prescribed by the state health care system. The government may declare you unfit to drive a vehicle because you won't take the medication they want you to take. Perhaps you will have an option between a government mental hospital and taking medication, effectively forcing you to medicate yourself under duress.

The scenarios and possibilities are endless. When you become too old and the state's economic models show they cannot extract enough production from you to justify expending resources on you, you will be cut off. When an illness becomes too costly when compared to your production potential, the state will cut you off. Perhaps you will be denied care because you don't exercise enough. Now the state can prescribe you an exercise routine.

Socialized medicine dehumanizes every individual forced to live under the system. The system reduces a person to a collection of molecules and predictable chemical reactions, robbing the individual of the uniqueness that defines a human. Rather than individuals seeking health care because they want a better life, the state will provide, deny or force it on an individual based on mathematical calculations regarding the state's return on invested resources. In short, the state will give you health care if the state finds it profitable to give it to you. Your quality of life is irrelevant. As the old saying goes: this song ain't about you.

As surely as I live, I tell you Liberty and socialism cannot coexist. Just as public education is is not about turning Little Johnny into a rocket scientist, state funded health care is not about making you healthy. It is about gaining control over your every move and undoing any last vestiges of privacy that you may have. It is truly the end goal of a Marxist state. The state is vying for control over whether or not you get to see a doctor. Guess which people they don't want going to the doctor? If you said people who dissent from government policy, you are correct. Dissidents and political activists will find themselves without health care, as will the elderly and the infirm once they become too costly to care for.

In closing it is worth mentioning that the current crisis in the cost of healthcare is the direct result of government intervention in the market. As with all goods and services, health care must also conform to the laws of supply and demand. The supply of doctors, medicine, hospital beds and operating rooms are all limited. The government tries to overcome these limitations of supply by paying more and more for services. Naturally this does not help the situation, but makes health care more costly for any one not on the government dole. It makes things worse by pricing individuals without government funding or costly insurance out of the market.

I hope this tells you a little bit about where I think the government is going with it's "single payer" program. It will be a nightmare for free humanity and an incredible victory for the Marxist state.

Sean Mangieri

Today Ike and I delivered a small handful of HR 1207 petitions to Representative David Scott's office in Smyrna.

Our first challenge was finding the office. After missing the office on the first pass we realized that 888 Concord Road was the address of the local Regions Bank. Then we noticed the sign.

We parked in the Regions Bank parking lot and went inside. A nice receptionist informed us that Rep. Scott's office was literally underneath the bank and could be entered from around back between the ATM and the bank's drive through.

After finding the entrance we descended the stairs and pressed the call button. After a minute or two (and several impatient button presses) we were let into the office. The lady who greeted us seemed friendly enough as we handed over the petitions, and she assured us that the petitions would be delivered to Representative Scott's office in Washington. But when we asked if she would mind posing for a picture with us and the petition she became concerned and asked an unseen co-worker in the back if taking pictures was "allowed". "NOOOO!" came the reply from around an office door. Ike politely thanked her again and we left.

How bizarre.

We only need to convince 4 more congress critters from Georgia to support our Audit the Fed legislation. How many petition signatures can you collect?

I recently contacted my representatives concerning health care reform. The first detailed reply I received was from Saxby Chambliss:

Dear Mr. Adams:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about health care reform.  It is good to hear from you.

As Congress and the Administration begin the debate on health care reform, all parties must commit to a full and thorough debate.   With health care representing 17% of our nation's economy, both the House and Senate must devote the appropriate time and focus on this matter.

In the Senate, the two Committees of jurisdiction continue to review possible legislation and committee amendments.  I agree that it is important for Congress to address the issues; however, I will urge my colleagues to take our time and debate all of the issues and proposals so that the American people can follow and understand the development and discussion of the legislation.

After committee action, the full Senate is expected to begin debate regarding comprehensive health care reform.  While we have yet to see the final language of a bill, there have been many ideas about the direction of heath care in our country that are currently being discussed.

I do not believe that a health care overhaul bill should include a government run option to provide health coverage.  Such an alternative would be able to charge much lower rates and would reimburse providers at a much lower level than private insurance plans and limit competition rather than fostering it.  Overtime, this could well eliminate private insurance companies and drive all individuals to the government run option that would essentially become a single payer system.  A health care system that is run by federal bureaucrats would allow the federal government to determine the coverage it feels is appropriate for you, choose the doctors that you see, and dictate the care that you receive.

Along with a government option, I am also opposed to a mandate on small business to cover the costs of their employees under a "pay or play" system.  During these difficult economic times, I do not believe we should be penalizing businesses who already cannot afford health care for their employees.

Questions such as the expansion of a government run program, competition among providers and payers, and cost containment, among others, must be measured against maintaining the highest quality of care for our citizens.  For example, the number of uninsured Americans continues to rise along with the premiums and out-of-pocket expenses incurred by insured consumers.  We in Congress need to address this problem by searching for effective ways to expand access to adequate, affordable medical care for all Americans in a fiscally responsible manner.

It is my view that the majority in Congress and the Administration are moving too quickly with radical proposals that may or may not achieve the worthy objectives mentioned previously.  A rush to legislative passage may limit access, lower quality, while increasing taxes and the nation's debt.  Members of Congress have not been allowed the appropriate time to review aspects of a bill that is estimated to cost over $1.7 trillion and by some estimates could go even higher.

I do agree that our country is in need of health care reform.  I am an original cosponsor of S. 1099, the "Patients' Choice Act," which was introduced on May 20, 2009, and was referred to the Committee on Finance.  The legislation would make health care coverage accessible and affordable for all Americans through private insurance coverage, while also promoting prevention and wellness which can improve lives and lower long-term medical costs.  S. 1099 would put individuals back in charge of their own health care by giving them a tax rebate, worth $2,300 for individuals and $5,700 for families, to be used for the purchase of health insurance.  It also would also allow patients to comparison shop for their health care the same way that they do for all other products and services and allow them to maintain their coverage if they move or change jobs.  Individuals who are most vulnerable of being turned down due to preexisting conditions could not be denied coverage due to age or health.

During the health care reform debate, I will monitor the initiatives with the view that health care reform should focus on keeping health decisions between doctors and patients, empowering and entrusting individuals with their health care savings and decisions, and promoting competition in all areas of health care.  Americans are right to demand access to affordable health care.  We will move closer to this goal as we see more promotion of the same innovation and competition in health care that we see in every other American industry.

I appreciate your comments on this important matter.  I will keep your views in mind as my colleagues and I weigh the various legislative proposals before the Senate.  As we move forward in the Senate, the state of the economy and the support of legislation that will enable the health care sector to improve are and will remain uppermost in my mind.

If you would like to receive timely email alerts regarding the latest congressional actions and my weekly e-newsletter, please sign up via my web site at: www.chambliss.senate.gov.  Please let me know whenever I may be of assistance.

As you can see, most of the letter is devoted to informing me about how Senators assumably behave when considering important legislation. My (very brief) read of S.1099 is that it is the usual hemogeny over the market with a few tempting ideas (such as tax breaks) sprinkled in for good measure. The one bright spot in the letter is the stated opposition to government run health insurance.

My opinion is that the entire health care industry has been skewed towards higher costs largely due to government intervention in the free market. Whether it is patent abuse by Big Pharma or the creation of artificial demand for HMOs, you can easily argue that Uncle Sam's incompetence and/or intervention has negatively impacted our Health Freedom.

I for one am putting my money (and my health) where my mouth is. I will soon be enrolling in a High Deductable Health Plan supplemented with a Health Savings Account. It will be my personal responsibility to ensure that my HSA is budgeted for and well funded. And as it turns out my health is important to me. Making smart choices about preventative care and balancing those against the reality of finite resources will be a personal decision between myself and my doctor. My only regret is that I don't have the freedom to opt-out of existing socialized/corporate medical programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

Hello Everyone,

The article below shows that governors have a growing concern with the federal governments Healthcare Bill.  I believe, at this point, it is so important to call our governors as well as our senators and congressman. List the concerns listed in the second link that come right out of the bill.

Our governors are concerned about the states becoming bankrupt. I am concerned about my life being mandated by the federal government when it is not a part of our founding documents.

The question for us is:
1. Do we want to look like California with the Cap and Trade Bill. Thanks to Henry Waxman, Pelosi, Baucus, and Feinstein, the state is struggling financially, businesses are leaving, and they have high unemployment because of that bill.

2. Do we want to look like Massechusettes with Universal Healthcare. Thanks to Mitt Romney and Barney Frank, US citizens, in that state, are losing their government mandated healthcare due to rising costs and individual rationing.

If the answer is no,today, we need to be concerned about the policy decisions coming out of our states and our congressman and senators. If any of your state or federal politicians said yes to Cap and Trade and will say yes to Government Public Option/Universal Healthcare, then,  it is time to make a change.

All of us agree healthcare needs to be reformed. All of us agree in living in a healthy environment. But, mandating our lives is not an option and not a part of our founding documents. Our politicians have crossed the line. As Americans, We have Lost Too Much Of Our Freedoms This Year Alone.

In case you missed it, both Senators from Georgia are now cosponsors of S.604 The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009. I have updated the S.604 petitions to say "thank you" and to urge our senators to bring S.604 to the Senate floor for a role-call vote:

So. I’ve solved every problem facing the world today. What is it?

You probably already guessed.

Freedom.

For healthcare, the answer is freedom. Only the free market can solve the medical “crisis”. Get the government out and let people choose, and costs will go down and we will have truly “universal health care”.

For gay marriage, freedom is the answer.  Get the beaurucrats in Washington out, and no one will be forced to recognize a relationship that is contrary to their morals.  Return marriage to where it really belongs, churches, families, and communities, and both sides are protected by the system of individuality and personal freedom our country was founded on.

We spend 10 times more each year on incarcerating drug users than treating them for their disease.  And that is what drug abuse is; a disease.  If we let adults decide whether to seek help or not, while simultaneously insuring that children are protected and that everyone’s autonomy is preserved, we can solve the drug problem in the USA. Portugal decriminalized and saw drug abuse rates decrease by nearly 20 percent.

Abortion.  If we truly value reproductive freedom, we will examine the entymology we use.  What is being REPRODUCED? Another human being.  Every honest medical doctor can answer that question.  If we truly believe in life and liberty then we will preserve it for children in the womb as well.

Foreign policy; The Constitution gives us no authority to aggress against other sovereign nations. A policy of non-intervention, that is, staying out of other people’s shit unless it is a direct threat to us, will both preserve lives at home as well as our men and women overseas.

The simultaneous maintenance of border protection, a strong military with only US interests in mind, and a divorce of big business and military strength will get us on the path to truly allowing freedom at home and abroad.

Economic freedom, probably the most important of all of these.  People are entitled to the fruits of their labor.  By returning the tax system to its common sense and Consitutional roots, we will have a small government and a thriving economy.

Religious freedom.  If we preserve freedom of worship, more people will see the values America is founded on: the notion of Christian individualism, which is freedom of conscience and decision making, and is kept strictly between man and God.

So maybe these are crazy goals, and they would “never work”, but we have never tried them.  We can start by rejecting the notion that government is our parent.  Government is simply coercion, organized into a ruling elite.  By constricting government to the preservation of life, liberty, and property, we can ensure that almost every problem facing mankind today is solved, and have a Constitutionally Minarchist government.

I say, let freedom ring.

The Appleseed Project is sponsored by the Revolutionary War Veterans of America (RWVA) with the goal of teaching Americans how to become trained rifleman in the tradition of American Liberty.  I attended my first appleseed last weekend in Ramseur, NC and I was taught by well-trained instructors the proper way to shoot a rifle.  Throughout the weekend, the American tradition was taught with the full version of events at Lexington and Concord which ignited the first American Revolution.  Overall the weekend was fun and exhausting (in a good way).

To give you an idea of how excellent this program is: on Saturday morning I picked up a rifle for the first time, by Sunday afternoon, I consistently scored 170 -180 on the AQT which equates to the level of "marksman" on the AQT (consistently hitting a target at a 400-yd equivalent).  I know that with more practice, I could qualify as a rifleman which is "expert" on the AQT.

I highly recommend this event to anyone who wants to learn how to shoot or improve their aim.  The program is free for women, active military, police, firemen, and anyone under 21.  You can get more details here.

There is an event coming up in Augusta, GA at Pinetucky on July 11-12.  Go ahead and register.....Preserve Liberty!

So our own GA senator, Saxby Chambliss, had a sitdown with Obama’s SCOTUS nominee, Sonya Sotamayor.  He was interviewed about his sitdown, and seemed to let on that he thought she was competent for the job (WTF) despite a recent YouTube video of Sotamayor saying that the Judicial Branch dictates policy (a total departure from the Constitution and the rule of law).  These objections don’t even cite her radical associations or judicial decisions, just her own words.  And Saxby ignored all of it.

Near the end of the interview (the link is at the end of this blog) he criticizes President Obama for not (and I quote): “Stepping up the rhetoric” against Iran regarding their rigged elections.

A few out of many objections can be raised against Senator Chambliss’s desire for a more aggressive US response.

Firstly, where in the Constitution is the President or for that matter any aspect of the government, given the right to interfere in the internal affairs of other nations during peacetime?

Secondly,  any direct engagement (whether through heavy diplomacy or military action) with Iran would be catastrophic, for the US military and budget, the Middle East, and for the liberties of ordinary Americans.

Thirdly, we simply can’t afford another costly, unnecessary war. We’re already fighting 2.5 costly, unnecessary wars (Iraq, the War on Drugs, and half of the Afghan conflict).

Finally, we can’t ensure the liberty of Iranians by giving their government another reason to take their freedom away from them during a conflict with the US.  Plus we Americans will lose what little liberty and wealth we have left if we become involved with Iran.

So Saxby, in response to the tired neocon liberal line of screwing around in other people’s business, it’s a terrible idea.  I know it’s shocking, especially from me, but Obama may be right on this.  I actually even think that he’s making a mistake by even mentioning this in a governmental address publicly.

We are not the Policeman of the world, Senator.  We’re broke already, and it is immoral for one country to force something on another during peacetime.

Here’s the link to the article.

Thank you for contacting me regarding S.604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009. I appreciate your thoughts and the opportunity to respond.

S.604 would mandate an audit of the Federal Reserve by the Comptroller General of the United States to be reported to the leadership of Congress, along with the leadership of committees of jurisdiction. The audit would be completed by the end of 2010.

While I am a supportive of the premise of this legislation, I support a more comprehensive approach of investigating the financial crisis that has impacted our nation. In response to the financial crisis that continues to plague our economy, I introduced legislation to create an independent bipartisan Financial Markets Commission that will be charged with fully investigating the near collapse of the banking system and the loss of tens of trillions of dollars.  It is imperative that we gather all the facts and not rush to legislate as we seek to recover from today's financial crisis. I am pleased that the Congress voted to adopt my Financial Markets Commission on May 6, 2009. Rest assured I am committed to addressing the issues that led economy into its current state.

Thank you again for contacting me.  Please visit my webpage at http://isakson.senate.gov/ for more information on the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-newsletter.

Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson
United States Senator

Poll: Will you be voting for Isakson in 2010?

Hell, yeah! I thought TARP and the GIVE Act were awesome!
Hell, nah! I'd rather vote for anyone other than Isakson!
Wait...there's an election in 2010?

The State, Regional and County Coordinators for the Campaign for Liberty in the State of Georgia condemn, in the strongest possible way, the recent murders of Stephen Johns, a security guard at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC; Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider in Wichita, Kansas; and Pvt. William Long, a soldier volunteering at a military recruiting center in Arkansas, just as we deplore the taking of any innocent human life. We ask that everyone please keep the families of these men in your prayers.

History has shown us all that there are many ideologies that are the enemy of personal freedom. Racist and bigoted ideologies of any kind, and their adherents, particularly those who promote or carry them out using violent means, by shedding the blood or taking the life of another, are anathema to, and the enemies of, the philosophy of freedom that is the cornerstone upon which the Republic stands, and upon which the lives and liberties of all rely. Human life is prerequisite to the expression and the realization of freedom for all. In the act of upholding these freedoms, we oppose every enemy of freedom who would use either the lie of a poisonous ideology to justify harming or killing another, or twist any ideology into a form that espouses or commits despicable acts that deprives anyone of their lives and their freedom.

The Campaign for Liberty had a highly successful outreach at the Georgia Republican Party state convention this weekend in the beautiful city of Savannah.

Ken Rosenberger and Anthony Lewis Sean Mangieri and GOP delegate

Our literature table was one of the best staffed and most popular tables in the convention hall.

Kathy Pate, Neil Jones, and GOP delegate

We debuted the petitions to Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson in support of the companion legislation to H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009 (S. 604),  and gathered over 200 signatures for each senator--all from Republicans!

Thanks to all of the C4L volunteers who collected signatures and handed out literature and buttons and chocolates, but special kudos goes out to Sean Mangieri, whose enthusiastic outreach garnered about two-thirds of those signatures!

The petitions will be delivered to the local offices of Senators Chambliss and Isakson this week.

Ike Hall and Nathan Deal

I was pleased to thank Ninth District Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Nathan Deal for his support of HR 1207, whose table was right next to ours.

The convention itself was well planned by the staff of the Georgia GOP and smoothly orchestrated by convention chairman Randy Evans. On Friday we heard from gubernatorial candidates Nathan Deal, Karen Handel, Eric Johnson, John Oxendine, Austin Scott, and Ray McBerry.

Kathy Pate, Troy Casey, and Mitch Anderson David and Diana Williams

Friday night, many of us gathered at the Boar's Head restaurant on River Street.

Diane Cox and Ken Rosenberger

Ike Hall, James Hattaway, Sean Mangieri, and Steve Matheson

The food was excellent and the company even more so! Please help me thank our 12th Regional Coordinator Mitch Anderson for making the arrangements.

Michael Steele J.C. Watts

On Saturday, the business session opened. Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele addressed the convention, as did former Congressman J.C. Watts and syndicated radio talk show host (and former Kansas City Fed chairman) Herman Cain.

There were challenges for the first and second vice-chair positions, which were won by incumbent Rob Doll and challenger B.J. Van Gundy, respectively. Everyone else, including state chairwoman Sue Everhart, was elected by acclamation.

Two interesting changes were made to the rules. The first was that no GOP officials could use their titles in the endorsement of candidates in races contested by more than one Republican. The second was a term limitation of three two year terms for state officers.

Many Campaign for Liberty activists had submitted resolutions to the state GOP and quite a few of our ideas (including H.R. 1207, state sovereignty, open and concealed carry of handguns, and opposition to REAL-ID) made it into the several omnibus resolutions, which will be posted as soon as we have a copy. My deepest thanks to the Resolutions Committee for their hard work in distilling hundreds of submissions into these excellent resolutions.

The C4L activists that did not have to leave right after the convention gathered at Kevin Barry's Pub on River Street for lunch with gubernatorial candidate Ray McBerry, who enjoyed being amongst such true lovers of liberty! Thank you all for a great weekend!

For the purpose of this essay, it is not necessary to believe in God. I will make some assumptions based on a biblical, creator God, but you are free to ignore them. This article only assumes a universal moral code and human rights such as freedom; the source is up to you.

I am a Christian and I believe in God given rights. God has given man certain inalienable rights, rights of freedom and personal responsibility.  The Bible says that men were created in the image of God. These rights are inherent and should not be taken away by any men or organization of men for any reason. Men may choose to give up these rights, but it is their personal choice. Any taking away of these rights, any forced "sacrifice" of these rights, any manipulation by force or by deception is wrong/evil/sinful. It is the very definition of morally wrong. This is where we get basic human morality. It is morally good to respect another's rights. On the flipside, a violation of the rights of another man, such as stealing private property or murder, is morally wrong and should be punished by the government. Government should especially not condone or practice these violations. Evil government (yes, there is such a thing) is any government that does something to abuse or ignore a citizen's rights. Looking at it from that prospective, most governments in history have partaken in some fashion of morally unacceptable behavior. Government exists to protect rights, not to take them or look the other way. Government does not grant rights, it is an organization designated to preserve them. It has no authority to take them away, even if it is the will of the majority.

This means no matter how large the margin of victory, a democratic government does not have permission to take your rights. As the old saying goes, "One man taking another man's property is called stealing; a group of men taking another man's property is called government." Americans have too long viewed the government's actions as justified by the fact that it comes from the government or that it is the will of the majority of the populace. This is not sufficient. The government must respect the rights of each individual citizen, not just the rights of the majority. This is true democracy, this is true freedom.

Now many Christians say that God requires obedience to all civil authority and their laws. This is very true, but should you support immorality? I believe that many actions that governments can and does take are immoral. As I have stated, I believe compromises on freedoms and rights are immoral. I also believe that governments should not get a free pass. Therefore to support a government that confiscates the rights of any one man is to support immorality. A Christian must recognize this dilemma and consider their actions in this light. I can not with a clean conscience support a government that violates individual rights.

The second argument that often comes up is a supposed "social contract" between the government and its citizens. This argument holds very little water with me for several reasons. First, when do we sign this contract? Is there a document? Is it a pledge or verbal contract? Do I get to vote on it? We never agree, officially or otherwise, to give up our rights for the "better" of the country. Even if we did, how could we change the agreement? We can not, therefore whatever political force in power can decide what terms its serfs, ahem I mean citizens, must follow. Also, how could I cancel it if I decide that I do not like it? What choice do we as individuals have in this contract? What freedom of choice do we have? I see this understood unwritten contract as a grave threat to freedom and therefore our society. We already have a social contract, the constitution in its original words and meaning. But it is continually ignored. Start by following the original before you impose a policy of rights abuse on America.

We are told to give up our freedom to use our money as we choose. We are told that we must blindly follow big brother down the dark hall to better place. We are told that we will have to sacrifice and have a little pain before we can have prosperity. It is time that we take back our rights

It is time to stand up for what is right.

It is time to live in free society

It is time to stop blindly obeying an evil government

It is time that we stop giving a free pass to immorality

It is time that we stop torturing people

It is time that we stop taking away people's right to live freely by suspending habeas corpus

It is time that we stop taking away people's right to privacy by wiretaps

It is time that we stop allowing our homes to be invaded by secret raids by police whose job is to protect us and give us assurance, not abuse us and give us fear

It is time to bring down a central bank that controls our lives through backdoor methods such as inflation

It is time to reject taxes that take a quarter of our money, which is equivalent to taking a quarter of our labor which is no different than mandatory slavery to the government for a quarter of our lives.

It is time to end this modern slavery

It is time to stop giving my money in foreign aid

It is time to stop mandatory charity

It is time to stop fighting wasteful wars

It is time to stop being lied to by politicians who never follow up

It is time to stop having the constitution ignored by everyone in D.C.

It is time for change, but change for the better, not more of the same.

It is time to restore our country to glory by restoring freedom

It is time to reduce the size of government; the larger it gets, the more abusive it gets

It is time to halt the glorifying of law enforcement on TV shows who take the law into their own hands by violating every right possible (aka NCIS, law and order, all the CSIs, basically all cop shows)

It is time to stand up for the freedom to own a gun of my choosing and store it where I will.

It is time to remove regulations which take freedom in order to bring safety

It is time to stop giving our giving up our freedom to the UN, IMF, WHO,WTO, and all other global debacles

It is time to have states rights

It is time to stop the legal murder of infants

It is time to eliminate socialism, in the form healthcare, welfare, and schools

It is time to let private do the work of private

It is time to let private be private

It is time to stop stealing money and calling it redistribution of wealth

It is time to stop letting the government tell us what to do, and instead tell the government what to it should do

It is time to return the government back to its original functions of protection, peace and postage

It is time to have big brother out of our lives

It is time to stop choosing the lesser of two evils and choose what we actually believe

It is time to stop the assault on rights

It is time.

I recently recieved this e-mail from John Barrow and thought I'd pass it along.

Dear XXXXX,

Listening to the folks we represent is one of the most important things a Congressman can do.  Unfortunately, not everyone is able to make a long-distance phone call or drive a long way to talk to their Congressman.

That's why I'm hosting a Telephone Town Hall meeting tomorrow evening.  The call is free, and you'll have an opportunity to submit your own questions.  It's just another way we can stay in touch.

If you'd like to participate, you're invited to call in tomorrow, May 14th, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  The call-in number is:

877-229-8493

The Teleconference ID Code # is:  13406

Again, the call is free.  I hope you can make it!

Sincerely,
Rep. John Barrow's signature

John Barrow

I am going to try to call in tomorrow. I don't know what, if any, question I will ask him. But, I will definitely thank him for co-sponsoring H.R. 1207. I think it would be a good idea if as many of us as possible could call in and voice our support of that move and also ask intelligent questions.

Here is the email that's been going around to everyone in the district that's been in contact with John Barrow, as he's now supporting HR1207! I want to send a shout out to everyone in the district who's been part of the petition drive, been in contact with John Barrow's offices here in Georgia (especially county coordinators Casey Tucker, Robert McGee, Kathy Pate, Bill Bennett, and Peter Zink), and his office in DC. Without your efforts, this would not be possible. Thanks also to Jesse Benton and everyone at C4L HQ who did the petition drops in DC!

This is John Barrow. Thanks for your e-mail in support of H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. I've always supported transparency and accountability in government, and that's why I'm proud to cosponsor H.R. 1207, which will allow for more audits of the Federal Reserve and will direct the Comptroller General to conduct an audit of the Federal Reserve and report its findings to Congress next year. The bill will also allow Members of Congress and the public to be better informed about the work the Federal Reserve does and will help us to see any problems that need to be addressed. If you have any further questions please contact my Legislative Correspondent, Chris Baggett. Feel free to call him at 1-202-225-2823, anytime between 9 in the morning and 6 in the evening. We hope to talk with you soon.

Thanks again-

--John

Congressman John Barrow
213 Cannon House Building
Washington, DC
202-225-2823

Please note also: John Barrow is part of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of conservative Democrats in Congress. Hopefully this will set in motion a series of co-sponsorships from this group, notably the other three Blue Dogs in Georgia.

Defeating The Oligarchy

By Ethan Maas

In 1913, a group of bankers, politicians, and big businessmen met in secret on an island off the coast of Georgia.  There they planned out a way to gain control of the United States of America and use it to usher in the New World Order.  Despite opposition from the Populist movement as well as some classical liberals and conservatives in Congress, the Federal Reserve Act passed after concessions were made that were never intended to be carried out.

Today, Americans live in a centrally planned economy and are almost used to the bubbles that occur in the “market” every few cycles.  The security that sound money brought to America from its founding to 1933 (when the federal government seized all of the gold from private citizens in order to attempt to end a depression it created) is nonexistent today.  Inflation has risen to over 95% since 1913 and the dollar is no longer a major factor in the global economy.

The populace is subject to constant war that is almost always waged by special interests and promoted by the higher-ups in the military-industrial complex and the war hawks from both sides of the two-party system.  The people are told that the government needs to tap their phones, search their property, and tax them heavily in order to keep them safe.  They are convinced by the corrupt scum in D.C. and the heavily controlled media that they need to have their money used in banker bailouts and senseless wars.

In 2000, the Republican candidate ran on a platform of a humble foreign policy and reduced government spending.  Two years later, when George W. Bush invested a large amount of his personal wealth in Halliburton, a private military corporation, just before the Iraq threat was created, no one asked questions.  Barack Obama, a Kenyan-born community organizer ineligible to hold the Presidency under U.S. Law, ran on an anti-war platform.  No one bats an eye when he says he will keep troops in Iraq indefinitely, expand the nation-build in Afghanistan, and prepare to invade Pakistan.

From these facts, there are only two possible conclusions.  Either Bush and Obama were faced with some hidden information after their respective elections that caused them to change their minds, or they are just puppets being controlled by agents of the IMF and the power brokers behind the scenes.  Since no one has ever seen any documents that support the claim that Iraq had plans to directly attack the United States, and no one has a definitive reason to invade Pakistan, the second option is most sensible.

The Bush-Obama Administration is a farce.  They obviously only do what their handlers tell them to.  Otherwise, how could Bush say with a straight face that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and then cite 9/11 as a reason to invade less than 6 months later?  Is it humanly possible for B. Hussein Obama to string together an intelligible speech without a teleprompter?  These people should apply for jobs as the new Bert & Ernie on Sesame Street.

Meanwhile, America is broke.  The working class pays all the taxes which are then redistributed to people who don’t work.  The people who don’t work use their welfare checks to buy illegal drugs, which are readily available.  Those people are then jailed, creating parentless families and overcrowded, overexpensive prisons.  Small businesses have to close because they and their workers can not make enough money to stay open; then they start getting handouts.

Washington has blown over 6 trillion dollars on wars of aggression since the Clinton Administration.  The money is either printed out of thin air, borrowed from China (the worst human rights abuser on Earth), or taxed from the working class (or at least the part of the working class that isn’t broke or in jail).

So they stretch the military thin in 600 bases around the world, then tell the American people they need to spend more on the military.  They tell them that the Iraq-Syria border needs protecting more than the American border, and they tell them that they need to pass such misnamed legislations as the Patriot Act and the Military Commission Act.

So now citizens can be spied on, searched without a warrant, jailed without being charged, or detained and tortured as an “enemy combatant” (read the Military Commissions Act of 2006) if the President says so.  This sounds like legislation that puts the citizen first, doesn’t it?

If we the people had any sort of discernment at all, we would ignore the fake party labels and vote every one of the fucks that supported this legislation out of office.

Instead, we’re told to support Obama because he’s for “change”.  We’re told to support McCain because he’s a “war hero”.  How about this?  I’ll vote for McCain when he runs for the president of the War Hero Society, and look to someone who gives a shit about the Constitution and America when I cast my vote for President.

The paradigm of Republican=Conservative and Democrat=Liberal is about as meaningless as they come.  Both parties want war, debt, and destruction, and neither care about the people.  Bush, hailed as a “conservative”, turned out to be the biggest war criminal in American history since Abraham Lincoln.  His successor, Obama, not only increased the budget for the misnamed War on Terror, but is actively seeking to expand it.

If people look past labels and instead look at policies, they would see that these people are the same.  If we looked past the lies perpetuated by both parties and instead saw the thieving Satanists for who they really are, we would rise up in opposition to everything they oppose.

Since the big-government pieces of shit in Washington love the bloated worker unions so much, the American people should give them a real union that hasn’t been seen in hundreds of years: a Union of citizens who are tired of the welfare, the war, the spending, the debt, the bullshit.  A Union of patriots who see the high ideals of the Constitution and the Declaration being consistently raped by neurotic scumbags like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Lindsey Graham, Bush-Obama, and the United Nations.

What if we as citizens decided that war was only acceptable in retaliation for a credible, imminent threat to the tangible security of the United States?

What if we saw the horrors of abortion and sought to change hearts and minds to see the unspeakable horrors that occur because of it?

What if we quit using lame pragmatic excuses for “enhanced interrogation”/abuse/torture, and charged the terrorists who did this to us with an actual crime as intended by the Founding Fathers?

What if we stopped listening to the media pro-establishment and learned the truth?

What if we recognized that welfare hurts the poor more than it helps them?

What if we acknowledged the obvious, that the Federal Government has no right to tell us what to put in our bodies, and that the War on Drugs is just as much a war on straight-edged citizens as it is on the drug users?

What if we stopped voting for the lesser of two evils and started voting our principles?

What if we went to work for ourselves and our families instead of waiting for a government handout?

What if we learned the truth-that the socialist state that we have been in for nearly 100 years is unsustainable and will be the absolute death of free society?

What if we rose up and exposed the oligarchy, the few individuals who actually determine what goes on in this country?

SUCCESS!

After all of the phone calls, faxes, letters, and hand-delivered petitions to Georgia's Rep. John Linder of CD-7, he has FINALLY signed on as a co-sponsor of H.R. 1207!

This means that EVERY Republican Congressman from Georgia is now co-sponsoring Dr. Paul's bill!

Let me just say -- CONGRATULATIONS, and a great big THANK YOU to everyone who made those contacts with his D.C and District offices. ESPECIALLY you folks who turned out on the Mass Action Day! Great job!

This was more difficult than those outside of our district might understand. Even though every other GA GOP Representative had signed on to the bill, Rep. Linder continued to tell us over and over that he "supported the bill" and would "vote for it if it comes to the floor," but he just wouldn't co-sponsor it. No one was sure of what the real reason for this was... but whatever it was, he changed his mind!

I truly believe this was because his constituents were willing to insist that he co-sponsor the bill. It's been said many times, but it bears repeating: many times, folks in government need to "feel the heat" in order to "see the light"!

So now, we need to turn our attention to the Democrats in Georgia -- especially CD-13, which is Rep. David Scott's district, who is on the House Financial Services committee. Let's roll!  Smile

P.S. Please give Rep. Linder's office a call at 202-225-4272 or 770-232-3005, and THANK him for co-sponsoring H.R. 1207!

I spent a couple of hours this past Monday canvassing Fulton Co precinct 01B with Jesse and Jeff in an effort to gain support for HR 1207. I am happy to report that it was incredibly easy to get signatures in support of auditing the FED, even in a heavily liberal precinct.

As I was speaking to one lady about the Federal Reserve's power to print money she interjected by asking "And it probably isn't backed by anything, right?" People are starting to get the message about sound money and the importance of having real transparency in government.

I challenge each of you to canvass your neighborhood in the next few weeks. Keep spreading the word. If you live in Congressional District 6 please collect signatures thanking Tom Price for being a co-sponsor. Those of us in the 5th and 13th have our work cut out for us...

I will be working on improving some deficiencies in the current petitions, and will post an announcement with links to improved versions very soon.

Poll: Have you canvassed your precinct in support of HR 1207 yet?

Yes!
Yes, and I plan to canvass surrounding precincts as well!
No, but I will start canvassing very shortly!

While this drive to get our petitions may not have been ultimately successful to get John Barrow to co-sponsor HR1207 thus far, the outcome of this event has rejuvenated this District and shown that we're quite capable of acting on Action Alerts, even with a short lead time to prepare!

I was unable to observe the festivities due to a planned trip to Wisconsin that only allowed a few minutes at John Barrow's office before I had to run to the airport, but reports have been trickling in from everyone about what I missed. I'm happy to report that we were able to get 124 petitions signed in just 4 days (and there may be more unreported!) by an energetic group of C4L'ers (and a couple non-C4L'ers!)

I kicked off the day walking in to the office a tad earlier than they opened, and spoke with Wesley Devegter, one of John Barrow's staffers in the Savannah office on Mall Blvd (450 Mall Blvd - Suite A, for future reference). I handed him some information about C4L and what our drive is about (locally & nationally), and told him that there are a growing number of people in this district that want to see transparency in DC, and that it includes the Federal Reserve.

I turned over a stack of 52 signatures I had either collected or received via fax from my county coordinators (thanks Casey and Bill!), and said that there would be a number of people coming in from across the district the rest of the day to do the same. The fact that this was happening concurrently with a number of people at the Augusta office, as well as on Capitol Hill was brought to light, and the pitch was made that we'd be very happy to have John Barrow join with several other Democrats who have gotten on board with this bipartisan effort. It also would be a big highlight for him to be the first Democrat in Georgia in co-sponsor HR1207.

I impressed upon him the benefits of working with us on this issue, and how we'd like to say things in a positive light as much as possible in as brief a manner that I could (because I seriously had to run at this point). He tried to tell us that he would fax our forms at the end of the week, but I told him no - we would like them faxed today. At this point he seemed to realize that we were serious (guess the suit & tie wasn't convincing at first).

The ultimate results? The word I got at my after I left was encouraging, that a number of the rest of us (and a few others not currently registered) trickled in throughout the day, some even just bringing the one form they signed themselves. They were being promised that the forms would be faxed up to DC. We'll see about that, the next time I have a free moment to inquire.

A good number of people participated in this, we a gained at least 4 new registered members, have at least 1 new dues paying member as a direct result of the drive, and collected $60 in donations (without trying!). A number of people have also been in contact that I'd never been in touch with before, and a number of other people have logged in for the first time in months. As a result of the increased contact, we'll be able to have better communication and increased effectiveness for future petition drives and other action alerts.

I'd very much like to say thanks to everyone who signed petitions and/or collected signatures for this effort. We've got a great team in District 12, and I'm proud of your work. I'm honored to be able to be part of this team working towards liberty, freedom, & a sound financial future.

More to come soon...

PS - I was able to stop by Tammy Baldwin's office in Madison, WI [D, WI-2] and left a card and told them to let her know a former constituent wanted to take time to stop by and thank her for co-sponsoring HR1207

Here in Ga-02, we are not having much luck with our congressman, Sanford Bishop (D).  I have emailed him countless times, dropped off petitions this past week, and called his D.C. offices many times.  All responses I get to his emails are automatic; I never receive the guaranteed hard copy response in the mail, all three times I have called this week the aide had no idea if Bishop has looked over H.R. 1207, and when I dropped off the petitions, I was not given the chance to engage in conversation- the aide just took the petitions and said goodbye.  Anyone who has a little extra time needs to pressure Sanford Bishop from Ga Congressional District 2 (1-202-225-3631).

On Wednesday at 10:30 am Mary Lou, Mark, and Jesse served John Lewis with a petition to co-sponsor HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparancy Act of 2009.  Office staffer Anna graciously received them, and mentioned that in future the petitions should include addresses to be sure the signers are in the correct district.  One of us pointed out some of the petitions included addresses.

More than 50 signatures were included, nearly all of them collected in short order the previous day by member Jeff, Nathan, and Jesse.

While pessimistic about the chances of Congressman Lewis living up to his oath of office, local members of Campaign for Liberty are open to being pleasantly surprised.  Furthermore, the ease of gathering signatures for such common sense legislation was encouraging.

This morning 6 of us rendezvoused in Newnan and proceeded to the District Office of Lynn Westmoreland. We were armed with a framed, group signed letter of thank you under the Campaign for Liberty letterhead and a nice wicker basket filled with fruit, assorted teas, chocolate candies and biscotti.

The receptionist summoned Deputy District Director, Andy Bush, who took our group carrying signs and other gifts into Congressman Westmoreland's conference room off of his office.   We sat with Mr. Bush for about 15 minutes answering his questions about what Campaign for Liberty was all about (constitutional governance, sound money and civil liberties) and discussing the illegitimacy of the 14th, 16th & 17th Amendments to the Constitution and he seemed pleased to hear what was offered.

Kathy Harper asked Mr. Bush to add The Creature From Jekyll Island to his reading list. He thought that Congressman Westmoreland had it in his office library and actually checked. Upon not finding it he thought that it must be in Westmoreland's office in DC.

The telling thing here is that the staff was quite stunned by what we did this morning and I'll bet that Westmoreland had an e-mail about our visit before we left the parking lot.

I left with the distinct impression that, for at least the likes of Lynn Westmoreland, making these men and women know that they really do have the solid support of true constitutionally oriented individuals when they, too, adhere to those principles offers us much more ability to influence these people than we might first imagine. To maximize the utility of this leverage point, it would seem appropriate for Campaign for Liberty leadership across the state to at least attempt to engender a relationship on some level with our representation.

Regional >sigh< Coordinators may want to consider leading a delegation of their county level coordinators into just such a meeting thus demonstrating the widespread nature of both our potential for support as well as the plausibility of our dissatisfaction being an issue with which they must contend.  This element must be explored and used to maximum advantage. I know of very few organizations that offer just such a potential.  We are not single issue oriented and our numbers are growing.  It would be foolish for any office holder to disregard us as time goes by.

Including myself our group consisted of:

Earl and Diana Morehead from Whitesburg

Kathy Harper from Griffin  &

Dave Cook with his daughter Katie from Carrollton

Earl had made the thank you signs and left one in the Congressman's conference room and the other just outside the front door.

I hope to have some pictures to share a bit later as Earl was acting as group photographer.

At the WRONG address!Dep. Chief of Staff looks over petitionWith Derick Corbett

On Tuesday morning, April 28th, I went to Rep. John Linder's (GA CD-7) district office to deliver the petition asking him to co-sponsor HR 1207.

We did have one small problem: we arrived at 9:00 a.m. at the address given to us by the Campaign for Liberty. However, that address was WAY off, so we looked up his actual address, and headed over there. 25 minutes later, we arrived.

It was a GREAT meeting. We spoke with Linder's Deputy Chief of Staff, . I had met him before at Gwinnett County GOP breakfast meetings, and he remembered me from my run 2 years ago for Congress in the 10th District. He knew about HR 1207, and mentioned that  a lot of Members were signing on to the bill, but he wasn't sure where Linder stood on it.

I told him that Linder had written to me expressing his support for it, and that he would vote for it if it comes to the floor. However, I said, it won't GET to the floor if we can't get enough cosponsors. When I told him that every other Republican Congressman from Georgia had cosponsored it, his reply was, "Well, no one can say that John Linder is a follower."

I told him that was true, but that I know the Congressman is a strong supporter of openness in government, which Derick agreed with. Since Linder is already supportive of the bill, it only makes sense that he would want to join his fellow Georgians and cosponsor it.

Derick said that he would be speaking with Rep. Linder this week, and that he would personally bring this to his attention. I thanked him, took a snapshot or two, and left.

All in all, it was a total of just a couple of hours out of my day, with what may be a lot to show for it. I encourage everyone reading this to do the same with YOUR Congressman! Smile

P.S. Thanks to those who came after -- Guy, Greg, Neal, etc. And thanks to my son Jordan for snapping the pics. :-)

It didn't make it through this year, but let's push it for next year.  This would allow the State of Georgia to perform an audit on the Fed Branch in Atlanta!

09 LC 18 8106T
House Bill 466 By: Representative Franklin of the 43rd
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Article 2 of Chapter 7 of Title 48 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to imposition, rate, computation, and exemptions regarding income taxes, so as to provide that federal reserve banks and branches located in Georgia shall not be exempt from state income tax; to provide for legislative findings; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1. Article 2 of Chapter 7 of Title 48 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to imposition, rate, computation, and exemptions regarding income taxes, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:

"48-7-21.2. (a) As used in this Code section, the term 'federal reserve bank' means any federal reserve bank or branch chartered under Chapter 3 of Title 12 of the U.S.C.A. and located in this state.

(b) The General Assembly finds that the Constitution of the United States does not authorize Congress to prevent states from imposing income taxes on privately owned corporations. Consequently, the General Assembly finds that 12 U.S.C. Section 531 which exempts federal reserve banks from state income tax is null and void and finds further that federal reserve banks are subject to state income tax.

(c) Federal reserve banks, including capital stock and surplus therein and the income derived therefrom shall not be exempt from and shall be subject to taxation under this chapter."

SECTION 2. This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

SECTION 3. All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.

Dear Friends of Constitutional Tender,

One week ago, we sent a message to all of the members of our Facebook "cause," that we had reached another milestone in our efforts to return our States to using REAL money: namely, that we had reached 500 MEMBERS, making us an official "SQUAD"!

That was then; THIS IS NOW. In just ONE WEEK, we added ANOTHER 100 members!

It took us 11 weeks to get from zero to 500... then it only took ONE week to get to 600!

So what does that mean? It means we're only 400 members away from the next level of "GUILD" (1000 members) -- and at this rate, we could hit that in just a couple of weeks!

This is an incredibly important cause -- perhaps one of the most important causes on Facebook, when it comes to the best chance America has to save our economy... and our money.

That's why I'm asking you to do something very special, to advance the cause of returning our States to using what the U.S. Constitution requires them to use: gold and silver ONLY. THAT is what can save our citizens from the coming monetary crash.

If you're not a member of Facebook, and are willing to help out by joining Facebook and then joining the Cause, then go here: http://apps.facebook.com/causes/209010/

If you're already on Facebook... could you go right now and "invite" as many friends as possible to join the "Support the State Constitutional Tender Act" cause? You can invite up to 60 friends a day -- just go here:

http://apps.facebook.com/causes/cause_invitations/new?cause_id=209010

Remember: it's our future we're trying to save. Can you take just a couple of minutes right now to help?

Thank you!

Bill Greene

The Georgia Senate on April 1st signed a resolution, SR 632, affirming its commitment to the Ninth Amendment, Tenth Amendment, Jeffersonian principles, and other states' rights aspects of government. This passed the Senate with an overwhelming majority of 43-1 on the last day of the legislative session. It will be forwarded to Congress and the President of the United States. I think we can all agree that this is a tremendous step forward in the quest for liberty. I have selected a few of my favorite quotes:

  • "...the members of this body reaffirm the principles of government expressed by Thomas Jefferson in a resolution written for the Kentucky legislature in 1798 stating that the several States composing the United States of America, are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to their General Government; but that, by a compact under the style and title of a Constitution for the United States, and of amendments thereto, they constituted a General Government for special purposes, -- delegated to that government certain definite powers, reserving, each State to itself, the residuary mass of right to their own self-government; and that whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force..."
  • "That, therefore, all acts of Congress of the United States which do abridge the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, are not law, but are altogether void, and of no force"
  • "That the construction applied by the General Government (as is evidenced by sundry of their proceedings) to those parts of the Constitution of the United States which delegate to Congress a power "to lay and collect taxes, duties, imports, and excises, to pay the debts, and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States," and "to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the powers vested by the Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof," goes to the destruction of all limits prescribed to their power by the Constitution: that words meant by the instrument to be subsidiary only to the execution of limited powers, ought not to be so construed as themselves to give unlimited powers, nor a part to be so taken as to destroy the whole residue of that instrument"
  • "That every State has a natural right in cases not within the compact, (casus non foederis), to nullify of their own authority all assumptions of power by others within their limits: that without this right, they would be under the dominion, absolute and unlimited, of whosoever might exercise this right of judgment for them"
  • "Any Act by the Congress of the United States, Executive Order of the President of the United States of America or Judicial Order by the Judicatories of the United States of America which assumes a power not delegated to the government of the United States of America by the Constitution for the United States of America and which serves to diminish the liberty of the any of the several States or their citizens shall constitute a nullification of the Constitution for the United States of America by the government of the United States of America"

Today I held a Tax Day Protest at Georgia College adn State University.  With only 3 other recruits we were able to talk to a good number of students about wasteful government spending and distibute over 200 "slim jims" from the Campaign for Liberty on "Sound Money and Economic Freedom."

The College Republicans on campus hosted a Tea Party, which I was unaware of until I showed up with my own protest.  They did a good job presenting a fairly non-partisan table and distributing information on Obama's budget and out of control spending.  The highlight of their Tea Party were short lectures given from two professors, one a professor of economics, the other of political science.  The lectures and following forum were very informative.  They adressed the growing and unsustainable government deficit, presented data that showed more spending does not alwasy have positive results, namely in the K-12 education system, and the great danger recent government intervention in the private sector poses for the future of our nation.  A fairly small turnout enjoyed the statement of one professor who said the auditorium would be full in three years if the spending, and therefor the income tax, did not go down.

Overall I think it was a productive day and hopefully gained some new recruits for hte Liberty movement and the Campaign for Liberty.  Let's hope the Tea Parties and protests across the nation can help propel our movement back to sound money and a constituional government.

No longer operating in "secret" or as part of a shadowy "conspiracy", our would-be world masters have consolidated the structure by which they intend for us to be enslaved for eternity - and are now pleased to advertise it broadly, while a boot-licking unfree press coronates them as saviors.

http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/9902

It's back on the plantation for you & me, or so they think....

As we reflect upon America's retreat from victory over the last century, and the intentional abandonment of our sovereignty, liberties, independence, wealth, and God-given rights committed by a relatively small band of recycled operatives & sycophants who have chosen to wear an "R" or "D" disguise - depending on the script at any particular time ----

Does anyone see ANY future in compromising ANY principle to support ANY policy or candidate who exhibits ANY weakness or ambivalence with regard to ANY Constitutional matter?

Wishful thinking & accomodating misplaced expedience in the pursuit of being a "good Republican" or a "good Democrat" has gotten us where we are.

It's time to stop allowing ourselves to be manipulated by the tyranny of the status quo and the choreographed false paradigm the same operatives have endeavored to project on the walls of our minds... It's really very simple: No matter how it may affect our perceived comforts or wallets in the short term - compromise with evil in any degree will consume us in the end.

No double-talking Sanfords, No Hucksters, No McTraitors, No Jindal, No Romlianis, No Alaskan airhead puppets, No NAU, No Fed, No IRS, No UN, No Unconstitutional Undeclared War, No CFR, No Rhodes "Scholars", No IMF, No World Bank, NO KIDDING.

Poll: Would you support a candidate or policy that is not completely consistent with either your values or the Constitution?

Yes, if the position of the candidate or content of the policy had some merit.
Maybe, if I could view the candidate or policy as a "stepping stone" toward a truly Constitutional position.
No, I will vote for & support only that which is consistent with the Constitution & my own values.

Here's my proposal for a resolution supporting H.R. 1207, to be introduced at the upcoming Georgia GOP 7th District Convention. I modified the one passed at the Alameda County Convention; this can be modified for other district conventions, and for the State convention.

We the membership of the Seventh District Republican Party in Convention do hereby propose and tender the following:

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, we, as Members of the Seventh District Republican Party applaud transparency and accountability in government and reject government secrecy involving monetary policy that impacts the entire economy; and

WHEREAS, serious discussions of proposals to oversee and audit the Federal Reserve are long overdue; and

WHEREAS, the Federal Reserve can enter into agreements with foreign governments and foreign central banks and the United States Congress is prohibited from overseeing these agreements; and

WHEREAS, we, as Members of the Seventh District Republican Party, believe agreements made by the Federal Reserve with foreign powers and foreign banking institutions should be subject to Congressional oversight; and

WHEREAS, the United States Constitution, gives the United States Congress the authority to coin Money and regulate the value thereof and does not give Congress the authority to delegate control over monetary policy to a central bank; and

WHEREAS, auditing the Federal Reserve will allow Congress to assert its constitutional authority over monetary policy and help to protect the value of the United States dollar; and

WHEREAS, over two-thirds of the Republican delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives are co-sponsors to H.R. 1207, the "Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009," including Rep. Jack Kingston, Rep. Tom Price, Rep. Nathan Deal, Rep. Paul Broun, and Rep. Phil Gingrey;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Members of the Seventh District Republican Party, in defense of the United States Constitution, STRONGLY URGE the representatives of the 111th United States Congress to support the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009.

Today was exciting. Between the hours of 10 am and 12 pm, several Citizens stood up and spoke in favor of the Constitutional Tender Act (full text). The first was Representative Bobby Franklin, then Dr. Bill Greene, Aaron Krowne, me, Sean Mangieri, and Franklin Sanders. Hopefully the video will go up soon and I will be able to edit this post to include it. The most encouraging part was the sincere and honest thought and questions coming from the subcommittees. "Here's my understanding of wealth..." and "will there be enough money?" Also, the banking lobby had some good questions about mechanics, while their arguments against the bill were always preceded with "I'm not a Constitutional lawyer." And their arguments against it were pretty weak too. In the end, it doesn't matter how weak their arguments before the committee are, it matters how much money they give to the legislators, so the bill might go nowhere. But I could see the wheels turning in the subcommittees. Today was a victory.

My testimony included tangible coins. I introduced the gold eagle coin, the silver eagle coin, silver quarters, and silver dimes to the subcommittee (covering all the accounts in the bill), then I proceeded with the following testimony:

There are no fancy letters after my name so allow me to introduce myself. I am a software developer. I have lived and worked in Atlanta for nearly four years. While my coworkers were taking out five year loans to get brand new Nissans, I bought a 1994 Saturn with 1600 dollars cash. While my friends were taking out 30 year Adjustable Rate Mortgages with payments they could barely afford, I rented a room in a house with other people. While others were living off their credit cards, I was paying off any credit card debt I had and I was building an emergency fund. In other words, I was always a little uncomfortable with the debt-based, faith-based economy. Now we have all seen some consequences of too much spending and borrowing, and not enough saving. When I was laid off from my job several weeks ago, my decisions to save and live frugally paid off. My point is to offer myself some credibility before making a statement in support of the Constitutional Tender Act.

I encourage the committee to support the Constitutional Tender Act for two reasons. The first is respect for the Constitution of the United States. The second is concern for the future of Georgia and her banking institutions.

The Constitution of the United States recognizes sovereignty of the states in article ten of the Bill of Rights. However, the states are forbidden to make "any Thing but gold or silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts" in Article I section 10. The central government is given no power to make a tender at all. Furthermore, on August 16, 1787 a motion to strike out the power of Congress to "emit bills on the credit of the U. States" carried nine to two. All the discussion regarded "bills of credit" to be "paper money." Article I section 8 of the Constitution allows Congress the power to "Coin money" which obviously concerns coins and not paper. Indeed, why would the founders grant the Congress the power to create money that the States would be forbidden from making a tender? Despite Washington DC's ignorance and hostility to the Constitution of the United States, we in Georgia have an obligation to do our best to follow it. The Constitutional Tender Act is a good start at compliance with the Constitution.

I am worried that the banks of Georgia may protest the Constitutional Tender Act on the grounds that it creates compliance costs. My hope is that they will see the wisdom in the act, as it will allow banks in Georgia to continue operating under dire circumstances. In the short term, compliance will require some work. In the long term, I urge the banking sector to consider the case of wholesale dollar rejection. If foreign creditors, the Federal Reserve, and the Congress allow the US dollar to collapse, people will probably not deposit their paper money into banks. This act does nothing to stop the current business of dealing with paper money, but it offers a future benefit for banks who comply with it. Banks already offering an alternative to dollar-only accounts will be ahead of the curve in what is shaping up to be a currency crisis. It should be noted that the act offers no prohibition on fees to open or hold an account denominated in Constitutional money. Obviously the banks must maintain profitability, so I would not expect them to offer safekeeping of money for free.
In conclusion, it is in the interest of the people of Georgia and the banks in Georgia to support the Constitutional Tender Act.

Alright folks. S. 604 - The Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009, introduced by Senator Bernard Sanders (I-VT), is the Senate companion bill to Congressman Paul's HR 1207 - The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. S.604 needs some friends. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) is the ranking member of the committee on Housing, Banking and Urban Affairs, where this bill currently sits. Send him a friendly e-mail, letting him know how important we think this legislation is (click here). Now would also be the time to start working on your state's Senators, to get them onboard.

A list of all members of the committee can be found here, along with links to each senator's corresponding homepage.

P.S. I know we may not see eye-to-eye with Senator Sanders on many issues, but he did get the ball rolling on this legislation, and we don't need to sell ourselves on the merits of auditing the Federal Reserve; we need to introduce people outside of the Campaign to our ideas. Drop him a line, thanking him for putting his name on this bill. Contact Senator Bernie Sanders

Dear Friends of Constitutional Tender,

YOU DID IT!

This week, we asked you to contact the Chairmen of the two subcommittees that HB 430, the "Constitutional Tender Act," was assigned to. Well, you must have done a good job -- because we got a call today from Rep. Calvin Hill's office, letting us know that the subcommittees will be holding a combined hearing on HB 430 -- THIS TUESDAY, March 24th, from 10am-12pm (in room 415 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building)!

That means we're scrambling to bring in people to testify for those two hours -- experts, regular citizens, etc. But the BIGGEST thing we need is to FILL THAT COMMITTEE ROOM with supporters of the Constitutional Tender Act!

It's a sure bet that there will be lobbyists there to testify AGAINST this bill. The Georgia Bankers Association has gone on record in opposition to it. The lobbyist for the Community Bankers Association of Georgia stated clearly that they would fight it. And these guys carry a lot of political clout.

THEY will be there. Will WE?

You see, WE carry clout, too. Or at least -- we SHOULD. We should be able to stand up and demand that our legislators OBEY the U.S. Constitution.

We shouldn't HAVE to demand it -- but we SHOULD be able to MAKE it happen!

There are a number of Members of these subcommittees who have a good idea of what this bill is attempting to do. But in order for the bill to continue to move forward, we need for the next important step to take place:

The members of these subcommittees MUST hear from the people about how IMPORTANT this bill is, and WHY it needs to be voted favorably back up to the Committee!

So, fellow Constitutionalists, we need to TAKE ACTION AGAIN! Here's how:

  • Contact the members of the two subcommittees -- their contact info is at the bottom of this message. We've listed them out individually, with names, phone numbers, and email addresses; we've also grouped their addresses as a list, so you can pick a list to cut and paste them into your email "To:" line.
  • Quote Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution to them: "No State shall... make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts".
  • Simply ask each Member to listen to the testimony on HB 430 with an open mind. Ask them to please begin each question they may have with this phrase: "Since the U.S. Constitution requires every state to ONLY use gold and silver coins in payments to and by the State, then... [insert question here]".
  • If you want to write more, explain to each Member why this bill is so important: because Georgia, like every other state, is in violation of the U.S. Constitution without such a bill (because the State is making some other "Thing" a Tender in Payment of Debts, both to and by the State). Remind each one that State legislators are all required to swear an oath to uphold that Constitution, so ethically and morally they need to do whatever the Constitution requires.
  • You could also inform each Member that this type of bill is also needed because, due to the ever-widening circle of economic disaster that is affecting the citizens of every State, we MUST do something to at least begin the process of restoring sound money and a sound economy, whether or not the Federal government or any other State government does so. This would immediately begin the flow of real wealth toward the state's treasury. This would stabilize the state's economy, protect the pensions of state employees, etc. -- and offer many other immediately recognizable benefits.

THANK YOU SO MUCH -- it's because of people like YOU, who are willing to take a few minutes of your valuable time to do something like this, that this bill is moving further through the General Assembly than we EVER thought it would this year!

CPAC was SOOO much fun!!  (I'm sorry I'm late writing this report; I've been away from a computer until now.)  It's like a conservative political junkie fanboy convention, complete with an exhibit hall, speakers, training classes, parties, etc.!  I always love meeting and spending time with other C4L people!

On Thursday, some of us attended the TV Training, which was extremely interesting and informative.  Afterwards, a few of us wandered into a few lunchtime speeches sponsored by Pajamas Media.  I was a little wary, because they weren't all that friendly to Ron Paul during the election.  But, the two speeches that we heard were great!  I cheered and agreed with everything they said, to my pleasant surprise!  I can't remember everything that they said, but I do remember that the first speaker said Karl Rove has wrecked the GOP!

The Exhibit Hall had many organizations there that I'd never heard of, and I thought that I was familiar with most of them.  I was pleasantly surprised that CPAC was inclusive enough to rent out a booth to the Libertarian Party!  All of the exhibitors were very friendly to us C4Lers as we walked by their booths.  In fact, I heard nothing but positive and polite comments about us during the entire Convention!

We represented the C4L at the Youth for Western Civilization reception with Tom Tancredo and Bay Buchanan, which was a success, although the open bar may have helped!  I like Tancredo for his work on the immigration issue, but I don't agree with him on foreign policy, etc.  Ron Paul's #1, of course!  What if we had a C4L reception with a cash bar and opened it up to CPAC next year?  It's just an idea; I don't know how much those hotel ballrooms cost.

On Friday, we were able to go to the Tea Party; it was a success!  A couple hundred people, including Michelle Malkin, were there, and C4L literature was handed out.  Later in the afternoon, we headed for the main ballroom to secure seats for Ron Paul's speech.  There was a positive buzz in the room when people noticed that he was in the back, giving an interview to CNN.  People began chanting his name before his speech.  He delivered a wonderful speech, as usual, and it was VERY well received!  The fundraising reception and Liberty Forum were later that night.  It was so much fun mingling with the speakers and other liberty lovers before the speeches, which were fantastic!  The room, which held 480, was packed and spilling out into the hall; I think that we could've easily used a 1000 person room!

Julie, Tali, and I stayed in the Leadership Institute dorm, which was an interesting experience in itself!  We got to know three of the other women in the dorm, who were 21.  They knew that we were C4Lers, but we mostly listened to what they had to say.  They told us that they supported Romney in the primary, and they were disappointed at CPAC last year when he withdrew from the Presidential race.  One of them said that her dad likes Ron Paul and wants to end the Fed!  They said that C4L had CPAC covered with people everywhere!  When we got back to the dorm after Ron Paul's speech, they gushed that they loved it!  We didn't hear Romney's speech, but they said that it was flat; he seemed to be giving a campaign speech, and not a future of conservatism speech like everyone else.  One of them later said that she didn't think Romney would ever be elected President.  "Why?"  I asked, guessing, "Because he's a Mormon?"  "No," she replied, "because he's rich."  Interesting.

On Saturday, I wasn't sure whether to go to CPAC, since C4L didn't have anything planned, but one of my dorm roommates asked me if I'd like to go there with her for the day.  I'm glad that I did!  She wanted to see Ann Coulter, so I stood in line with her to see her.  When we reached her, I thanked her for complimenting Ron Paul recently.  Then, she wanted to go to Rush Limbaugh's speech.  I don't like Rush's arrogant schtick, and I haven't listened to him since 2000, when he said that Buchanan didn't have a chance (I've known that the media is biased for a while now!), but I bit my tongue and went to it.  The main ballroom was full, so they set up overflow seating and screens in some other ballrooms.  I didn't like his speech at first, but I gotta admit that I ended up agreeing with most of it, with the exception of his defense of Gen. Petraeus and our foreign policy and the bankers who spent money on parties, etc.  My favorite line of his was something like "Conservatism isn't dead; it's just that we didn't have a conservative candidate (McCain) last November!"  I really think that the tide is turning in the GOP towards real conservatism.

By the end of CPAC, everyone seemed to know C4L because of our fantastic representation.  Our professionalism and numbers really left a good mark on the event.  We rocked; we can do even better next year!!  I highly recommend that you attend next year if at all possible; you'll have a blast!

As some of you might already know, I led a group of concerned citizens in an effort to run against the Nominating Committee slate here in Carroll County, The interesting thing is no one really wanted the positions they tried for, myself included, but instead were looking for an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns about the direction our country is headed and the aiding and abetting of that decline by the GOP.

Ike hall read my "campaign speech" and asked me to post it here for further distribution. Although I lost, and handily so, the margins of our defeats dwindled throughout the entire process I was approached later by several people new people that told me they had really liked my speech and that they knew for certain it had come from my heart.

The county hierarchy also came up to me afterward to make sure that I was not retiring from the party simply because I had lost.

Good morning.

To begin, I never imagined I'd be seeking such a position. If I could simply sit at home, minding my own business and not risk seeing our country become a "socialist worker's paradise", it would have been my first choice. That's no longer possible because I want my children and theirs to live in the America she is supposed to be.

Contrary to the opinions of some, I am a Republican, but more importantly I'm also a God fearing supporter of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Some here today, like me, offered a solemn oath to God and countrymen to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That oath meant something to me and I recall no expiration date.

Today we see treasonous disregard of our Constitution. It has become clear that we must stand and honor our oaths. To those of you that just talk about the loss of our rights to the socialism growing up around us, I say there are few times in an average man's life when the occasion presents itself to take part in history. Now is just such a time.

I would hope to coordinate the efforts of those that hold these same values to become a clear voice for freedom using the existing party structure to bring about true legitimate change.

There's nothing radical here, nothing new and untried. It only requires working together to bring about real grassroots level change with the goal of restoring constitutional government and the rule of law.

I think Republicans should actively participate in seeking and selecting candidates for office ensuring that they reflect conservative principles of men like Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan and are not just Republicans in name only.

I'd like to see the party work to hold all politicians accountable by engaging in direct contact campaigns against any actions that conflict with our conservative values or damage our financial well being.

These matters have an impact on your gun rights, your healthcare freedom and even your ability to provide for your families as well as your children's future. To stand idle jeopardizes all that.

I want to leave you with two thoughts.

Einstein defined insanity as continuing to do the same thing over and over again all the while expecting a different outcome.

Thoreau wrote, "There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is hacking at the root."

Which will you be?

Thank you and God Bless.

Here's what I sent to my Congressman, John Linder (Dr. Paul's speech says it better than I ever could):

********************************************************

Dear Rep. Linder,

As your constituent, I'm writing to ask you to please support H.R. 1207, the "Federal Reserve Transparency Act."

Throughout its nearly 100-year history, the Federal Reserve has presided over the near-complete destruction of the United States dollar. Since 1913 the dollar has lost over 95% of its purchasing power, aided and abetted by the Federal Reserve's loose monetary policy. How long will we as a Congress stand idly by while hard-working Americans see their savings eaten away by inflation? Only big-spending politicians and politically favored bankers benefit from inflation.

Since its inception, the Federal Reserve has always operated in the shadows, without sufficient scrutiny or oversight of its operations. While the conventional excuse is that this is intended to reduce the Fed's susceptibility to political pressures, the reality is that the Fed acts as a foil for the government. Whenever you question the Fed about the strength of the dollar, they will refer you to the Treasury, and vice versa. The Federal Reserve has, on the one hand, many of the privileges of government agencies, while retaining benefits of private organizations, such as being insulated from Freedom of Information Act requests.

The Federal Reserve can enter into agreements with foreign central banks and foreign governments, and the GAO is prohibited from auditing or even seeing these agreements. Why should a government-established agency, whose police force has federal law enforcement powers, and whose notes have legal tender status in this country, be allowed to enter into agreements with foreign powers and foreign banking institutions with no oversight? Particularly when hundreds of billions of dollars of currency swaps have been announced and implemented, the Fed's negotiations with the European Central Bank, the Bank of International Settlements, and other institutions should face increased scrutiny, most especially because of their significant effect on foreign policy. If the State Department were able to do this, it would be characterized as a rogue agency and brought to heel, and if a private individual did this he might face prosecution under the Logan Act, yet the Fed avoids both fates.

More importantly, the Fed's funding facilities and its agreements with the Treasury should be reviewed. The Treasury's supplementary financing accounts that fund Fed facilities allow the Treasury to funnel money to Wall Street without GAO or Congressional oversight. Additional funding facilities, such as the Primary Dealer Credit Facility and the Term Securities Lending Facility, allow the Fed to keep financial asset prices artificially inflated and subsidize poorly performing financial firms.

The Federal Reserve Transparency Act would eliminate restrictions on GAO audits of the Federal Reserve and open Fed operations to enhanced scrutiny. We hear officials constantly lauding the benefits of transparency and especially bemoaning the opacity of the Fed, its monetary policy, and its funding facilities. By opening all Fed operations to a GAO audit and calling for such an audit to be completed by the end of 2010, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act would achieve much-needed transparency of the Federal Reserve.

PLEASE, support H.R. 1207, the "Federal Reserve Transparency Act." I will be watching your actions on this bill very closely -- it's THAT important. Thank you.

In preparation for the Fulton County Republican Convention this year, several C4L/GOP members drafted a resolution for the purpose of establishing guiding principles for the party. Before the convention convened, we passed about 100 copies to the approximately 190 delegates present. The resolution read:

A RESOLUTION

Establishing the Principles of the Fulton County Republican Party; and directing publication.

WHEREAS, the Republican Party is the party of principle, ideals, and moral standing; and

WHEREAS, candidates seeking to run for office as a Republican Party candidate must be of sound principle and moral standing; and

WHEREAS, it is the role of members of the Georgia Republican Party to hold party officials accountable to a reasonable standard; and

WHEREAS, a constitutional republican government is the safest form of government; and

WHEREAS, the Constitutions of the United States of America and Georgia affirm the Natural Rights of Man to Life, Liberty, and Property, and which limit government to its just powers; and

WHEREAS, maximum well-being is achieved by respecting the rights of the individual; and

WHEREAS, government is incapable of producing wealth but rather operates from the expense of productive individuals.

THEREFORE

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE FULTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY:

THAT the Principles of the Fulton County Republican Party be established and state:

The guiding principles of the Fulton County Republican Party, its members, its officers, and its candidates for elective office are as follows:

* The Rule Of Law, foremost the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of Georgia, shall be adhered to with the strictest interpretation at all times.
* The just and humane endeavor of any government is to ensure personal liberty, justice, and self reliance to the people.
* Respect for all human beings, their lives, their civil liberties, and their personal property shall be upheld always.
* A proper and just role of the Federal government is to ensure the National Defense and to secure its national borders.
* Free enterprise, unfettered by government regulation and interference, is the most efficient and humane way to ensure the general welfare of all citizens; the proper role of government in the economy is to enforce contracts and prosecute fraud.
* Reducing or eliminating taxes and reducing government to its proper role, as defined by its Constitution, shall be the goal of all public servants and elected officials who are members of the Fulton County Republican Party.
* Government has an obligation to fiscal conservatism and should always provide a balanced budget for all of its affairs.
* Education is primarily the responsibility of the individual, and of the individual's parents when the individual is a child.

THAT the Principles of the Fulton County Republican Party, as adopted, be published by the Secretary of the Fulton County Republican Party on the official Fulton County Republican Party website always and be published in the legal organ of Fulton County, Georgia no later than August 1, 2009.

After a sitting through no less than 4 resolutions honoring former party members who were now deceased, a resolution to rename the annual President's Day fund-raising event, and a resolution put forth by the convention chairman denouncing the bailouts (we supported that resolution wholeheartedly), we discovered that our principles resolution had not made it out of committee.

One of the resolution's authors made a motion from the floor to present the resolution for adoption. The Rules & Resolution Committee Chairman, R. Mansell McCord, then informed the convention chairman that such a motion was essentially out-of-order and against the standing rules (I don't recall exactly what was stated, but that is the gist of it). Several of us motioned to suspend the rules for the purposes of bringing the resolution up for a vote. Mr. McCord then addressed the convention stating that his committee had considered the resolution, but that it conflicted with a long standing policy of avoiding any potential conflict with the national party platform. So much for what the grassroots thinks...

A voice vote was taken for the motion to suspend the rules. While there were many "AYEs", the party old-timers out-shouted us with "NAYs" and the motion was ruled to have failed. A call for "division" was ignored. Thus we were never given the chance to officially present the text of the resolution to the convention.

Afterwards several of the same people who voted against the motion stated that they agreed with most all of the ideas stated on the resolution. I can't help but wonder why anybody would ever place party politics over the very principles the party claims to represent.

Poll: Should the Fulton County convention have allowed the resolution be presented for a vote?

Editor:

Columbia County has thus far in the present recession been in a position to count our blessings. While we've had some bad business news locally, we've been fortunate not to have yet experienced a full crushing blow. Here, we're still seeing local building and growing, albeit perhaps with a nervous eye on external events. For the last half-century, our county has been transitioning from an overwhelmingly agricultural community into one commercially and residentially diverse. Those of us reared in the county's rural areas don't necessarily celebrate that fact, but it is nonetheless a testament to the adaptability of the leadership we've been prone to elect. Ours has been a can-do sort of place to live, and we have been justifiably proud of Columbia County's progress and rich history.

That said our relative stability shouldn't excuse us from taking a sober look at the economic and political realities being placed upon all Americans. First we witnessed an irresponsible "bailout", and now we've had occasion to observe an equally hideous "stimulus" emerging from Congress-neither of which even pretended to address the inherent instability in the fractional reserve basis of modern banking, or in having fiat currency subject to value manipulation by a central bank. We have yet to see what effect the sheer volume of all this new money being created out of thin air will have. The object is supposedly to reboot the credit markets; the impact, however, will by definition be inflationary. A paper note denuded of it's value by government policy would be just as worthless in Columbia County as it would be on Wall Street; the prospect of diminished purchasing power makes the devaluation of the currency an intensely local issue, with potential for a deep jab at our standard of living.

While this is a serious concern, of more urgency seems the need for us as a county to consider the historical precedents of economic downturns being used as pretexts for sweeping usurpations of power and permanent alterations in governmental form-all pursued, supposedly, to "rescue the people." The Federal Constitution as an instrument of real limitation stands today severely degraded, and we have no real reason to assume that it would not just simply be sidestepped by federal officials if they thought it's provisions an obstacle to "recovery." Extraordinary powers claimed by and conceded to the previous president are sure to be exercised by the new administration; in light of many of them having rubber-stamped these augmentations of presidential power, and for having voted for last year's bailout, it is difficult to take the protestations against the Stimulus by many Congressional Republicans seriously. Better late than never I suppose, for them to rediscover the slightest hint fiscal responsibility in their rhetoric. That said, we need a new frugality at every level of government, and in our County, I suggest that to mean we ought to refrain from creating something like a traffic circle for reasons purely aesthetic with a view towards conserving funds for essential services that the citizenry has come to expect.

While I certainly wish it to be unlikely, the prospect that the current economic situation could degenerate into circumstances where federal officials presume to have the authority to suspend constitutional rights, the citizenry of our county and this State need to have settled opinions in our minds as far as what our response to such actions would be. We need the assurance that our State and County leaders are committed to the preservation of our lives, liberty, and property against all aggression-including aggression initiated by a federal government divorced from meaningful limitations on the exercise of power. Further, we need the assurance of local officials (Particularly Sheriff Whittle's Department and Pam Tucker's Emergency Management Department) that in just such an upheaval, they would not aid and abet federal officials in arbitrary arrests, gun confiscation, or in implementing martial law. My statements here are not intended to be alarmist, but rather, practical. We ought to consider all possibilities and plan accordingly-and this includes our not being willing to accept such actions, if ever taken, as legitimate. We have the right to expect our representation in Atlanta and Washington to do everything they can to prevent such an ugly episode from ever happening.

In closing, I urge the citizens of this County to become as informed as they possibly can on economics, the Constitution itself, and the practices of the Federal Reserve. As a crash course on these subjects I recommend to the reader the following readily available titles: Meltdown by Thomas Woods; Economics In One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt; The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve by Edward Griffin; What Has Government Done to Our Money? by Murray Rothbard; Who Killed the Constitution? by Thomas Woods and Kevin Gutzman; and, lastly, The Political Incorrect GuideTM to The Constitution, also by Kevin Gutzman.

Columbia County has opposed illegal government actions in the past; I sincerely hope that we would be willing to do so again if our future circumstances demand it.

Respectfully,

B.P. Faulkner

Harlem

One of our folks was handed a copy of last week's Atlanta Business Chronicle at a Toastmaster's meeting recently. Inside was a long article on the Constitutional Tender Act!

Click Here to read the article in its entirety. (By the way, the article was apparently also published in sister business journals across the country!)

Of course, as happens in the media, there were misunderstandings of the bill. For example, it said that while "the state would accept checks or other payments linked to gold coin- or silver coin-backed accounts," it could also "accept Federal Reserve dollars — the existing U.S. standard for nearly four decades — for other types of transactions." That, of course, is incorrect; that section of the bill is referring to what everyone ELSE in the State is allowed to do -- they can use gold, silver, or even worthless pieces of paper with pictures of dead politicians on them. It's their choice under this bill.

Also, as happens with members of academia, there were even more misunderstandings of the bill. Surprisingly, they came this time from Dr. George Selgin, the "BB&T Chair in Free Market Thought / Professor of Economics" at West Virginia University, whom the article called "an expert on the history of currency standards and monetary theory." Here's what he had to say:

Selgin said the challenges of re-introducing such a standard, if the bill became law, are numerous.

“We as a country walked away from gold to fiat money,” Selgin said. “It’s very hard to walk back.”

Selgin said he sees the bill, rather than attempting to re-introduce a now-defunct financial standard, as creating the artifice of one.

“Banks would have to meet two sets of standards, one for doing business with the state, and one for everyone else because everyone else uses another standard,” he said. “You’re asking them to create parallel systems, and that’s very difficult.”

OK, yes, "it's very hard to walk back" to real money. No one is saying that would be something that could happen overnight. BUT, this bill would actually put us on that ROAD back to real money -- by introducing competition in currency. By getting the State to obey the Constitution, and ONLY use gold and silver coin in receiving and making payments, we can begin to get people used to using real money again, because they'll have to use it in their transactions with the State. Once they start doing that, they'll be more willing to use it in their everyday transactions as well -- especially as the fiat money continues its spiral downwards in purchasing power, and the gold and silver maintains its value. At that point, we can see "Gresham's Law" work in reverse -- good money will chase out bad money.

What is most unsettling, though, it that a prominent academic like Dr. Seglin is willing to look at a bill that attempts to make the State obey the U.S. Constitution in the area of money... and he calls it "a bit kooky." Instead of making suggestions of better ways to make the State enforce the requirement for Constitutional tender, he dismisses it outright as just "creating the artifice" of a "now-defunct financial standard."

Is this what "experts" in "free market thought" are teaching in the schools these days?

I emailed Linder asking him to support HR 1207.  I don't know why, but unfortunately the response was in regards to HR 833 (Abolish the Fed) which I did not inquire about.  However, in the fourth paragraph in his response (see below) he indicates that he would support auditing the Fed.  I think with adequate encouragement, we can get to cosponsor HR 1207.

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for legislation to abolish the Federal Reserve Board.  I appreciate hearing from you.
Introduced by Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) on February 3, 2009, H.R. 833 would repeal the Federal Reserve Act, as well as dissolve the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and each Federal Reserve Bank.  Currently, this bill is pending before the House Committee on Financial Services, where it awaits further consideration.
The Federal Reserve was deliberately created with a certain independence in order to ensure that monetary policy could be made without undue influence from the executive or legislative branch.  We must make certain that any alteration of the Federal Reserve does not undermine our nation's monetary policy or subject the oversight of its monetary policy to the short-term interests of partisan politics.
While I do not support efforts to eliminate the Federal Reserve, I do believe that we can make it more accountable and provide the American people with an opportunity to view the manner in which this nation's monetary policy is controlled.  In light of the Federal Reserve's willingness to invoke its role as "lender of last resort," I believe additional transparency and disclosure are especially important.  You may be interested to know that I have supported legislation in the past which would give the General Accountability Office the opportunity to audit the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Advisory Council, the Federal Open Market Committee, and the Federal Reserve banks and their branches.  I prefer this more limited approach to the wholesale abolishment of the Federal Reserve, which is what H.R. 833 envisions.

Dear Friends of Constitutional Tender,

HB 430, the "Constitutional Tender Act," was brought up this week in the State House Banks and Banking Committee, and assigned to TWO subcommittees: Financial Institutions & Services, and Regulations & Oversight. This means we are making GREAT progress here in Georgia in advancing this bill!

There are a number of Members of these subcommittees who have a good idea of what this bill is attempting to do, including a few co-sponsors. But in order for the bill to continue to move forward, we need for the next important step to take place:

The members of these subcommittees MUST hear from the people about how IMPORTANT this bill is, and WHY it needs to be voted favorably back up to the Committee!

Both of these subcommittees are going to be holding hearings on HB 430 very soon, and we're going to be bringing in as many of our experts as we can to testify and explain the need and the necessity of passing this bill. We'll be letting you know when those meetings are.

  • Explain to each Member why this bill is so important: because Georgia, like every other state, is in violation of the U.S. Constitution without such a bill (because the State is making some other "Thing" a Tender in Payment of Debts, both to and by the State). Remind each one that State legislators are all required to swear an oath to uphold that Constitution, so ethically and morally they need to do whatever the Constitution requires.
  • Inform each Member that this type of bill is also needed because, due to the ever-widening circle of economic disaster that is affecting the citizens of every State, we MUST do something to at least begin the process of restoring sound money and a sound economy, whether or not the Federal government or any other State government does so. This would immediately begin the flow of real wealth toward the state's treasury. This would stabilize the state's economy, protect the pensions of state employees, etc. -- and offer many other immediately recognizable benefits.
  • Ask each Member to listen with open minds to the testimony from experts on what exactly it would mean to carry out this bill.
  • You can also contact Chairman Mills (james.mills@house.ga.gov - 404-656-5099), and thank him for bringing up HB 430 and assigning it to subcommittees -- and remind him again why it's important to pass this bill.

THANK YOU SO MUCH -- it's because of people like YOU, who are willing to take a few minutes of your valuable time to do something like this, that we have a GOOD SHOT at getting this bill moved through the General Assembly this year -- and even introduced in other states!

LET'S ROLL!

Dear Representatives and Senators,

As Georgia faces record unemployment, spiraling inflation, and an unfathomable burden of debt from Washington, DC, I would ask you to keep an open mind as you consider HB 430, the Constitutional Tender Act.

Our Founding Fathers knew well the danger of entrusting monetary policy to unelected bureaucrats or, even worse, a private central banking cartel like the Federal Reserve. Since 1971 when US currency was un-Constitutionally severed from the gold standard, our economy has naturally gravitated away from sound investments in manufacturing and towards the easy gains in finance made possible by fiat money. As a result our nation's largest export has become the dollars themselves. But paper money backed only by itself will only retain the confidence of its holders for so long. The world has begun to realize the ludicrous nature of this system, and like Rome before us our financial system has begun to crumble. Let us not forget that the economic booms of the mid-1980s and late 1990s were fueled by the Federal Reserve's irresponsible lending of credit and were only outmatched by the economics busts of the early 1990s and now. None of these things would be possible under a sound money system, and I suspect that we would have instead seen steady (but realistic!) growth for last 35 years.

The road to economic recovery will not be easy, nor will it be swift. But building Georgia's economy on a bedrock of sound money is surely better than building it on the sands of fiat currency. I ask you to please support House Bill 430.

Thanks to our own Break_your_chains, we now have a flyer to promote HB 430, the "Constitutional Tender Act". It's a brilliant example of the creativity of our movement, as is the bill itself. Print and distribute widely!

Please make sure this gets spread around, especially to liberty-minded folks not currently affiliated with C4L.

Thanks to rrambo for pointing this out. The current draft can be viewed here.

Gold & Silver Bill Introduced in Georgia!

Today - Friday, February 13 - the fight for a return to Constitutional money begins.

HB 430, the "Constitutional Tender Act," has been introduced in the Georgia House of Representatives.

As noted, the bill number is HB 430. Since the House isn't back in session until Tuesday 2/17, it won't be "official" until 9:00 a.m. that morning, and then the link to it will be live. But the bill is THERE!

HB 430 was introduced by Rep. Bobby Franklin (R-43), who is a member of the Banks & Banking Committee. Bobby is a good friend of ours, and a good friend of the U.S. Constitution.

NOW THE FIGHT BEGINS. The first step needed is for every citizen of Georgia to contact their State Representative TODAY and ask him or her to co-sponsor this bill. Here's an example of what you can say when you call or write:

As your constituent, I'm contacting you to ask you to please co-sponsor HB 430, the Constitutional Tender Act.

This bill is needed because Georgia, like every other state, is in violation of the U.S. Constitution without such a bill (because the State is making some other "Thing" a Tender in Payment of Debts, both to and by the State). As a state legislator, you swear an oath to uphold that Constitution, so ethically and morally you need to do whatever the Constitution requires.

This type of bill is also needed because, due to the ever-widening circle of economic disaster that is affecting the citizens of every State, we MUST do something to at least begin the process of restoring sound money and a sound economy, even if (and especially if) the current federal administration refuses to do so.

Please, put the people of Georgia and their well-being above any partisanship or politics, and especially above any fears about your "reputation" with others. What is important is the welfare of the citizens of this state, and the need to abide by the U.S. Constitution.

PLEASE, co-sponsor HB 430, the "Constitutional Tender Act," TODAY. Contact Rep. Bobby Franklin's office at
404-656-0152 to become a co-sponsor. I will be watching your actions on this bill very closely, and will remember them on election day. Thank you.

If you don't know how to contact your state Representative, you can go to the GA Secretary of State's "Poll Locator" website, enter your information there, click the Submit button, then scroll down to see what Georgia House District you live in. Then go to the GA House website, find your House District number, and click on your Representative's "Fact Sheet" to get his or her contact information.

Or, if you don't want to go through all that, you can just call the Secretary of State's office at 404-656-2881 and ask them to help you contact your state legislator.

PLEASE, contact your State Representative TODAY and ask him or her to co-sponsor HB 430. It's time to return to Constitutional money -- and this is a great start. Thanks!

The United States Constitution declares, in Article I, Section 10, "No State shall... make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts". But, in fact, EVERY state in the United States of America DOES make some other "Thing" besides gold and silver coin a "Tender in Payment of Debts" -- some "Thing" called "Federal Reserve Notes."

Thus the need for the "Constitutional Tender Act" -- a bill template that can be introduced in every state legislature in the nation, returning each of them to adherence to the United States Constitution's actual legal tender provisions:

http://www.ConstitutionalTender.com/

State legislators are all required to swear an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, so ethically and morally they need to do whatever the Constitution requires. This type of bill is also needed because, due to the ever-widening circle of economic disaster that is affecting the citizens of every State, we MUST do something to at least begin the process of restoring sound money and a sound economy, even if (and especially if) the current federal administration refuses to do so.

Passing an item of legislation that would mandate the use of only constitutional money in state transactions (taxation and payables, contracts, etc.) would immediately begin the flow of real wealth toward that state's treasury. This would stabilize the participating state's economy, protect the pensions of state employees, etc. -- and offer many other immediately recognizable benefits. This (the Constitution) is the only true "hedge fund" that can protect the people from the effects of inflationary paper money.

All fifty states are in violation of this Constitutional requirement -- and if we could get this bill passed in at least SOME of the states, we could begin to see the Federal Reserve challenged from the BOTTOM UP!

Please go to the website NOW, and see how YOU can get the template modified & introduced in YOUR state!

My Fellow Liberty Lovers,

I would like to call your attention to GA Senate Bill 12, a clandestine approach to confiscating ammunition from law-abiding citizens in Georgia.  Unfortunately, this same legislation is being proposed in state legislatures all across the country. Please help spread the word about this before it is too late. In Georgia, this bill is already in the Senate Judiciary Committee. If you are not a resident or citizen of Georgia, then please find out if this type of legislation is being introduced in your state.

Basically, the bill goes like this: All handgun ammunition in Georgia will be required to have a serial number MICROstamped on the bullet and the casing. To possess, purchase, sell or transfer ammunition lacking a serial number will become a criminal offense.

When you purchase ammunition, your name, date of birth, address, gov't issued ID number, the caliber ammunition, ammunition serial numbers and any other information that the government demands will be collected. This information will be stored in a database at the Department of Public Safety.

The bill requires that the state set up the database by January 1, 2010. Ammunition not having a serial number must be destroyed before January 1, 2012.

Although the bill currently only calls for the encoding of handgun ammunition, it is important to note that many handgun calibers are also rifle calibers. It will only be a matter of time before the legislation is changed to include ALL ammunition.

Here is what we need to do:

1) Contact each of the members of the GA Senate Judiciary Committee and tell them to stop this bill before it goes any further.

2) Contact your State Senator and respectfully voice your concern about the bill. It is important to be polite here. Many people, your local representatives included, do not know anything about firearms AT ALL. You may need to educate them, and you will get much further with them if you are nice.

3) Contact your State House Representative. The same applies to speaking with them as with State Senators. They are often also not very well informed.

You can read the full bill here.  http://www.broc.state.ga.us/legis/2009_10/fulltext/sb12.htm

If you need any further assistance, please contact me and I will help in any way I can.

Sean

Today we learned of the passing of a dear friend of liberty, Kendall Young, a precinct leader in Gwinnett County and a longtime liberty activist. A computing consultant and entrepreneur, he joined the Ron Paul 2008 grassroots movement at the very beginning and proved to be a compass for the rest of us, as well as an endless font of ideas for activism. He will be remembered fondly and deeply missed.

Tom DeWeese Threatened by Con Con Proponents

On Sunday, January 11, 2009, Tom DeWeese, President of the American Policy Center (APC) received a letter from a Bill Walker, purporting to be co-founder of an organization called "Friends of the Article V Convention," a group supporting a called for a Constitutional Convention. DeWeese and his APC activist group have recently stopped a "Con Con" call in Ohio.

Walker's letter contends that information DeWeese used for his arguments against a Con Con were fraudulent. Specifically, Walker sited a letter from former Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger written in 1983 to Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly, which states in part, "I have also repeatedly given my opinion that there is no effective way to limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention. The Convention could make its own rules and set its own agenda." DeWeese has cited the letter as expert opinion on the dangers of calling a Con Con for a specific purpose, such as the Ohio Resolution which simply wanted to discuss a balanced budget amendment for the Constitution.

Without offering any evidence to the contrary, Walker said the letter was a fraud and that, if DeWeese didn't refute the letter publically, "I intend to state you knew the letter was a fake all along."

The entire exchange, including Tom DeWeese's response is below.

Mr. Walker's E-Mail:

In a message dated 1/11/2009 2:45 PM EST, writes:

Dear Mr. DeWeese,

As we both know you oppose the calling of an Article V Convention. I am not here to persuade you to change your mind.

However, I must inform you, in all fairness, that I have irrefutable, documented evidence to refute your main reference you use in your presentations--the so-called Burger letter. I can prove it's a fake.

I'm giving this opportunity to publicly refute the letter and declare it to be a fake on all blogs which you have used it as supposedly a valid reference. Take it my word for it Mr. DeWeese, I am not bluffing on this.

I will be releasing a video this week on You Tube detailing all facts, documents and so forth to prove the letter is indeed a fake. Unless I have heard from you that you are publicly refuting the letter and thus the assertions in it, I intend to state you knew the letter was a fake all along. And sir, given the documentation I will present, you will not be able to convince anyone otherwise.

The choice is yours. I don't like destroying someone's public creditability without giving them the chance to correct the error themselves.

Thank you for your time.

Bill Walker
FOAVC co-founder
www.foavc.org

Tom DeWeese's Email Response:

In a message dated 1/12/2009 2:52 PM EST, writes:

Mr. Walker:

I received your e-mail yesterday, Sunday, January 11, 2009.

You have made some serious accusations along with specific threats to me. Let me address them.

First, concerning the "Burger Letter" and its authenticity: Just moments ago I spoke directly with Phyllis Schlafly to confirm the authenticity of the letter and its existence. I have a copy in my hand. She has also posted it on her website at www.eagleforum.org/topics/concon/pdf/WarrenBurger-letter.pdf

I have no reason to doubt her word. You, of course, have not presented your "evidence" to me that the letter is a fraud - you chose instead to use unfounded scare tactics. If you wanted to be honest in this matter, you would offer your proof, not only to me but to Phyllis Schlafly, giving her a chance to respond as well - particularly since she is the one you are calling a liar. But in talking with her today, I learned she has never heard of you either.

Second, in fact, I have only used reference to that letter once, in the first alert APC issued concerning the Ohio Con Con resolution. And I have rarely mentioned it during the numerous radio interviews I have given on this subject over the last month. The existence of that letter is not vital to our argument against calling a Constitutional Convention. I have instead looked to the history of the 1787 Con Con and its precedents, along with documents, notes and writings of those who actually attended the original Con Con. The proof is in the original authorizing documents and the debates calling for the convention, and the notes of leaders like Madison, Yancey and others. The evidence that states cannot control the delegates, once a Con Con is called, is irrefutable. Have you read them?

Third, in your mail to me you said, "Unless I have heard from you that you are publicly refuting the letter and thus the assertions in it, I intend to state you knew the letter was a fake all along." Sir, until I received your e-mail on Sunday, I had never heard a single word about a dispute regarding the authenticity of the Burger letter. So, your threat stating that I "knew the letter was a fake all along," is a lie and a slander. Say it, and I assure you I will sue you to the fullest extent of the law. That, I guarantee. And I assure YOU, I'm not bluffing.

Your charges are groundless, your position is unsupportable and your threats are toothless.

Do as you will and we'll see who is "discredited."

Very Sincerely,

Tom DeWeese
President
American Policy Center

The MeetUp.com website served us well during the Ron Paul 2008 Presidential campaign. But now that we are evolving into a grass-roots organization (via the Campaign For Liberty) the MeetUp.com groups have become more of a distraction than anything else. Unlike the Campaign For Liberty, which is well-suited for grass-roots organization, MeetUp.com groups are organized by ZIP code rather than political boundaries. The only real value added by a MeetUp.com group, in my honest opinion, is the ability to send emails. The MeetUp.com calendar, polls, etc. only distract from their counterparts on the Campaign For Liberty website.

Therefore, I suggest that we deprecate our MeetUp groups and funnel its membership wholeheartedly into the Campaign For Liberty. Surely we will lose a few fun-hogs along the way, but the path to freedom is paved with hard work, and fun-hoggery has not been successful for us to date.

Here is my suggested plan:

  1. Have your State Coordinator create a Google Group (example) and lock it down:
    1. Only members can view group content
    2. Only managers can view group members list
    3. People can request an invitation to join
      1. Question: What is the link to your Campaign for Liberty profile?
    4. Only managers can create and edit pages
    5. Only managers can upload files
    6. Only members can post messages
    7. Only managers can invite new members
    8. Under the "Navigation" settings hide Members, Pages, and Files
  2. Have your State Coordinator add a link to your State's C4L page inviting C4L members to join the Google Group (example)
  3. Lock down your MeetUp.com group(s) such that members can only send e-mails
    • New members should not be allowed
  4. Change the description of your MeetUp.com group(s) to simply be a link:
Please join us at the Campaign For Liberty!
  5. Send a warning email to the MeetUp.com group stating that the group will cease to function in a couple of weeks.

After the time limit expires send a final farewell message to the group. Wait a couple of extra days and then start removing members. Some folks will surely become irate, but always keep your replies professional and helpful.

Ike Hall was impressed with the Fulton County page that I setup, and asked me to give some pointers on how I put it together. I decided to make it a blog entry so that it could be easily shared with other C4L coordinators. I am certain that my ideas can be improved upon, so please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Audience is Everything

Before you begin, you need to realize who your audience will be and what kinds of information they will want to know. The specifics will of course vary depending on whether you are a State, Congressional District (CD), or County coordinator, but I would claim that your target audience falls into one of two categories:

  • New C4L members wondering where to begin, or
  • Existing C4L members wondering how to get involved.

Keep your audience and their goals in mind at all times; all information on the page should be directed at them.

The Lay of the Land

First I would recommend that you take some time and determine which political boundaries are contained within your state, CD, or county.

If you are a State coordinator this work has already been done for you by the C4L website; the blue side bar lists all of your State's CDs and Counties along with the coordinator for each. Your State flag is shown along with links to important State government bodies. That was easy!

If you are a CD coordinator, I would recommend that you first determine which Counties your CD crosses. Provide a short sentence with links to each C4L County page. Next, see if you can figure out how many Precincts are covered by your CD. Luckily, a map of your CD has already been provided by the C4L website (complements of nationalatlas.gov).

If you are a County coordinator, you have your work cut out for you. :) Provide a link to your County's official government website. If your county provides a mapping service, provide a link to that as well (example). See if you can locate and insert a simple County map graphic that shows all of the major cities and towns (example). A count of the Precincts within your County might be helpful. Be sure to link the C4L website for all CDs that cross your County. I also recommend that you list each city and town in your county and link to each official government website (example). All of those links will come in handy as you fill up your calendar with local government and political events...

Note: There is a bug in the C4L website where links to other C4L pages become mangled. For the time being you will need to convert your C4L links using TinyURL (Thanks for the tip Bill!).

Trivia

For each State, CD, and County page I recommend that you (briefly) make mention of any politically significant trivia that you know of. Be creative and keep it interesting.

Party Time

Be sure to list (and link to) any and all political parties and grass-roots organizations that have organizations specifically for your State (example), CD (example), or County (example). Keep in mind that almost all political parties agree with the Campaign For Liberty on some issues. It is important that C4L learn to build coalitions with those parties on any issues that we share in common.

Mind Your Boundaries

Be careful not to duplicate information that belongs on some other page. For example, don't post links to a State-wide political party on a CD or County page. Instead, email those links to your State coordinator and ask that they be added to the State page where they belong. This applies to State, CD, and County pages alike and will help keep the information on each page relavent.

Mind The Time

Don't put time-sensitive information on the State, CD, or County pages. Instead, post time-sensative information as an Announcement or blog entry and be sure to set an expiration date.

Conclusion

Your State, CD, or County page should be a one-stop shop for anyone wishing to get involved at each level. This guide should not be taken as canon, and I would encourage you to improve upon it.

I'm sure most of you know about the petitioning effort to support Dr. Paul's bill to end the Federal Reserve System - see http://www.endthefed.us/repeal.php .

The goal is to get 1 million signatures by Feb. 23rd. When the new 111th Congress convenes, Dr. Paul will re-introduce his legislation (H.R. 2755 in the current session) to end the Fed. The bill will be referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. The petition will be presented there, I believe, coincident with a phone call, fax and email campaign.

However, we in Georgia have the opportunity to push this even farther -- we have TWO Georgia Representatives on that committee, one Democrat and one Republican:

Rep. David Scott, GA 13
Rep. Tom Price, GA 6

This means we can make an EXTRA effort to push this legislation with them, especially those of our folks who are in either CD 13 or CD 6. So anytime you see either one of these two, make a point to talk to them face-to-face about supporting the End The Fed bill. If you hear them on a radio show, call in and tell them they need to support it. If they speak at a meeting locally, go and get recognized to ask them pointedly about supporting it.

And of course, make those weekly phone calls, faxes, letters and emails:

http://davidscott.house.gov/Contact/

http://tom.house.gov/html/contact.cfm

If they get this stuff every time they turn around -- in addition to the petitioning effort and our constant contacting them -- they might just realize that this time, they have to actually CONSIDER the bill, or face the consequences at home in two years.

We gotta dog these people. We know how to do that, right? :-)

Please help me welcome our new District Coordinator for the Fighting Seventh, William Greene. Bill is the incoming chairman of the Georgia Republican Liberty Caucus. He's been fighting the good fight for true conservatism in Georgia politics for many years, and I'm proud that he accepted the position of District Coordinator.

Bill's got a few good words for anyone who's thinking of giving up the fight for the soul of the GOP, thinking that from our experiences in the primaries that we'll never win: Don't give up, because this is OUR moment.

"The "leaders" of the Georgia GOP are COUNTING ON our folks to NOT stay involved in party politics. They slapped us down and did their best to push us out this year -- let us be resolved to NOT run away, but to run TOWARDS the battle now."

Please read his post in full on the state page.

I'm also pleased to announce that Nancy Smith has accepted the position of County Coordinator for Gwinnett County. She will be working with Bill to help organize our efforts there.

Travis Jones is relocating to another district where he will continue his good work for liberty. Thanks, Travis, for all you've done!

Hey, I wanted to remind everyone here that we, the truly conservative Constitutionalists in Georgia, have a HUGE opportunity this coming year to STAY INVOLVED in the GOP process and TAKE BACK our party for true constitutional principles.

We've got a VERY disillusioned party membership in Georgia, who are LOOKING for a change in both leadership and direction, back to real conservative values.

We've got "leaders" in the GA GOP who are floundering about, and don't know HOW to utilize new technologies in conjunction with grassroots activism and fundraising.

We've got strong support from a number of county GOP chairs, including at least one VERY LARGE county.

And finally, this is an OFF-YEAR as far as elections go:

1) That means that the Precinct Mass Meetings will have VERY FEW attendees -- which means that our people could take over the Precinct Chair positions in almost EVERY SINGLE PRECINCT in the ENTIRE STATE. (Do you realize that MOST of those positions have NO ONE in them???) It's my opinion that, if you take those positions and get each precinct organized -- just like the Campaign for Liberty is pushing -- we will go a LONG WAY towards taking our party back!

2) It also means that each county GOP's School District Meetings (or State Senate District or however your county does it, if your county has its own Districts) will have VERY FEW attendees -- which means that our people could take over the School District Manager positions in SCORES OF DISCTRICTS. In fact, our folks in every county that has them should investigate NOW whether their county's School District Managers or State Senate District Managers have faithfully attended all of the regular meetings of the County Committee -- for most counties, if they miss 3 consecutive meetings, their position is automatically declared VACANT and a new Manager is voted in at the next County Committee meeting.

And guess who qualifies as VOTING MEMBERS of the County Committee? Well, for one thing, all Delegates and Alternates who attended the most recent organizational County Convention -- which means our people need to attend them THIS year in droves, just like we did last year! Plus, any registered voter who pays their annual dues to their county party and attends at least three regular County Committee meetings within a one year period of time ALSO qualify as VOTING MEMBERS of the County Committee - so just pay your dues and go to three meetings! :-)

3) It also means that the County Conventions will have VERY FEW attendees -- which means that our people could take over the County Chair positions in DOZENS OF COUNTIES. There's still around 15% of the counties in Georgia that don't even HAVE a GOP chair - in fact, our folks already took over one that wasn't being used at the time!

One good result of getting County Chair positions would be the possibility of getting a Voting Member seat on the GA GOP State Executive Board, which runs EVERYTHING in the state party. You see, the State EB includes one county chairman elected by caucus of county chairmen from counties of 80,000 people or more, and one county chairman elected by caucus of county chairmen from counties less than 80,000 people. If we take a bunch of county chairman positions - especially small counties where they have an anemic or even absent party - we can then get one of our own ON THE STATE EXECUTIVE BOARD. Please understand - that would be HUGE, and would give us a VOTING VOICE in what happens with our party!!!

The GOP "County Executive Committees" are also elected at this coming year's County Conventions, too - that is, the County Chairman, First Vice-Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, AND Treasurer. WE NEED TO RUN PEOPLE FOR EVERY SINGLE POSITION, or support challengers who support US.

4) It also means that the District Conventions will have VERY FEW attendees -- which means that our people could take over the District Chair positions in AT LEAST two or three districts. And even if we don't elect our OWN people there, we could at least target the incumbents by throwing our weight behind a viable challenger. I already know of one who isn't technically "one of us," but is VERY supportive of our efforts, so we could support HIM!

The GOP "District Committees" are also elected at this coming year's District Conventions - that is, the District Chairman, First Vice-Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer are elected at the District Convention, too. WE NEED TO RUN PEOPLE FOR EVERY SINGLE POSITION, or support challengers who support US.

PLUS, and even more importantly, it's at this coming year's District Conventions that 150 MEMBERS of the GA GOP State Committee, which is the governing body of the state party, are elected to serve. One member (which does NOT include the District Chairman, who is already a member) is allocated to EVERY SINGLE DISTRICT, plus the remainder of those 150 are allocated AMONG the Districts in accordance with the number of votes cast therein for the Republican nominee for President in this year's general election. If we just SHOW UP in force, we could take a LARGE NUMBER of those 150 positions -- meaning we would be "sitting pretty" right there on the governing body of the state party!

5) Finally, it also means that the State Convention in May 2009 will be VERY different from this past year's. Many of our folks had never attended one before this year's, and were caught unawares by the underhanded maneuvering of the Old Guard in charge. Well, not any more. Their support of RINOs like McCain and Saxby can be their downfall, IF we just SHOW UP and vote our numbers. THEIR numbers will be way down, I can tell you!

It will be at this coming year's State Convention that new elections will be held for state party "leaders" -- Chairman, First Vice-Chairman, Second Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Treasurer. WE NEED TO RUN PEOPLE FOR EVERY SINGLE POSITION.

AND, don't forget that it's at this coming year's State Convention that one county chairman will be elected by caucus of county chairmen from counties of 80,000 people or more, and one county chairman will be elected by caucus of county chairmen from counties less than 80,000 people, to serve on the GA GOP Executive Board!

KEEP IN MIND: The "leaders" of the Georgia GOP are COUNTING ON our folks to NOT stay involved in party politics. They slapped us down and did their best to push us out this year -- let us be resolved to NOT run away, but to run TOWARDS the battle now.

And remember... Freedom is Popular! :-)

OK, Georgians, time to make Congress feel the heat and see the light again! As you all know, the Big Three are going hat in hand to Congress to get some of your money so that they can continue their poor management practices. We have two senators and thirteen representatives. Where do they stand? Call them and post the answers here!

UPDATE: The House has voted to pass the Automaker Bailout 237-170. Here's how Georgia Representatives voted. I'm pleased to note that Jim Marshall stood up to his party and voted against the bailout. Everyone else voted along party lines. If your Representative voted for the bailout, call him and ask when your free car is going to be delivered. You paid for it, after all.

GA01 Representative Jack Kingston (R) (202) 225-5831 Nay
GA02 Representative Sanford Bishop (D) (202) 225-3631 Yea
GA03 Representative Lynn Westmoreland (R) (202) 225-5901 Nay
GA04 Representative Hank Johnson (D) (202) 225-1605 Yea
GA05 Representative John Lewis (D) (202) 225-3801 Yea
GA06 Representative Tom Price (R) (202) 225-4501 Nay
GA07 Representative John Linder (R) (202) 225-4272 Nay
GA08 Representative Jim Marshall (D) (202) 225-6531 Nay
GA09 Representative Nathan Deal (R) (202) 225-5211 Nay
GA10 Representative Paul Broun (R) (202) 225-4101 Nay
GA11 Representative Phil Gingrey (R) (202) 225-2931 Nay
GA12 Representative John Barrow (D) (202) 225-2823 Yea
GA13 Representative David Scott (D) (202) 225-2939 Yea

Please help me welcome the new interim District Coordinator for the Fighting Ninth District, Matt Placek. (Yeah, I know, his profile says David, but call him Matt.) Please work with him to grow the Precinct Leadership in the Ninth, and don't hesitate to ask him for assistance.

With the new information coming out from the Campaign for Liberty concerning highlighting supporter blogs and the new education page I began to wonder what else we, as a group, could do to expand people's knowledge and alter mindsets concerning the government and the free market. As I was thinking about this I latched onto that word, "mindset", and it suddenly occurred to me that we need a strategy to change the hearts and minds of our fellow-citizens and of the people of the world. So, with that need firmly implanted in my mind I have decided to try to write up some ideas on how to effect this strategy. I'll try to be as concise as possible.

Music - From what I understand, several musicians attended the Rally for the Republic in September. Among them were country superstar Sara Evans, Aimee Allen and Jimmie Vaughn. Well, it's my feeling that, along with the Rally for the Republic DVD, we should try to get a Campaign for Liberty CD created, filled with music from those singers above as well as with songs from other interested parties and sell them. Doing so would help to fund the Campaign and get out liberty-minded music to people.

Video - As stated in the music section, the Campaign for Liberty has informed us that a DVD of the Rally for the Republic will be on sale around November. That is a great start to getting more information out to people. I definitely plan to buy one when they come out for sale. Beyond that, there are all sorts of videos on YouTube concerning Dr. Paul and other liberty-oriented subjects.

I feel that YouTube will be a great asset for us in the coming days, weeks, months and years ahead. For instance, Campaigners who are adept at creating videos - especially animation - might possibly be able to create a series of 10 minute long webisodes centered around characters in some setting who have to deal with socialist ideas and counter them with free-market, liberty-minded ideas. Think about that for a minute; people love to be entertained. If they're also educated they'll be better off in the long run. The show could run for several "seasons".

Literature - I'm a writer, so I usually jump right into ideas about literature. In fact, I'm currently working on a novel set in my home town that has libertarian themes. Several such novels or short stories - even poems - written by talented individuals could go a long way to making people think about our current circumstances.

The above are just a few ideas. There are probably hundreds more that I haven't considered. Whatever your thoughts concerning this strategy, pro or con, I'd love to read and discuss them in the comments section of this blog.

<!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } -->A new party has won the White House, and I hope that you will join me in wishing Barack Obama good luck in his administration. With an economy tanking, with the specter of hyperinflation waiting in the wings, two wars raging in the Middle East and troops stationed around the globe, he's going to need it. I hope he chooses his cabinet wisely and makes his decisions with the Constitution in mind. It certainly appears that a yearning for change has swept the nation.

But in Georgia, not so much. All of the U.S. House races were won handily by the incumbents, regardless of party, and whether they voted for the bailout or not. However, Senator Saxby Chambliss appears, at this writing, to be headed for a recount and possibly a runoff against his Democratic challenger Jim Martin. The Libertarian candidate, Allen Buckley, covered the vote difference between the two major-party candidates.

What does this mean for the Campaign for Liberty in Georgia? It means that our work is cut out for us! We now have some important strategic considerations.

First of all, with our albeit minor efforts at publicizing Senator Chambliss' bailout vote, we have helped cause him political pain. Win or lose, no incumbent wants to face a runoff. Our Get Out The Vote efforts in the next few weeks, coupled with the continued chaos in the markets, will be crucial in determining whether Chambliss finally faces his deserved political demise. I encourage everyone to join me at the End the Fed protest at the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank on Saturday, November 22 to continue our good work in this regard. With the general election over, this may be our chance to get some attention.

Secondly, the Republican party is not so moribund in Georgia as one might think. John McCain won the state by over 200,000 votes, and no Republican incumbent U.S. House candidate even had a close contest. So our efforts to win Republicans over to the ideals of liberty should continue, and we still have much in common with the Republican base.

Thirdly, with the exception of the excellent showing by John Monds in the Public Service Commission District 1 race, no third-party candidate topped five percent of the vote totals. I wish the Libertarian Party the best in future elections, and I invite all LP members to join the Campaign for Liberty and work to affect real change within the prevailing paradigm.

There will be an extended honeymoon period with President Obama as well as the Democratic Congress. But I predict that as the death toll from America's foreign adventures continue to climb, as our taxes are raised, and the economy continues to sour due to the government's interventions, even Democrats will start to wonder what they have wrought. I hope I'm wrong and that the new administration starts on the path to peace overseas and the restoration of our civil and economic liberties at home. But in case that doesn't happen, we'll be ready, as always, to make a difference as only we can.

Yours in liberty,
Ike Hall

I am in the process of recruiting interim District Coordinators for the Campaign for Liberty in Georgia. Their mission will be to assist me in recruiting and educating Precinct Leaders. Please keep in mind, this is an interim position, which will last until we have sufficient numbers of Precinct Leaders to form a charter organization in the district. Each chartered organization will then be able to elect its own leadership, just as the Precinct Leaders will be able to choose the leadership at the state level once we have sufficient numbers.

Three interim District Coordinators have accepted the position. Please help me welcome them, and please work with them to make your district the best in the state of Georgia.

GA 03: Jerry DeMarce
GA 05: Mary Lou Van Houten
GA 06: Cade Thacker

All three represented their districts at the Leadership Summit at the Campaign for Liberty's Rally for the Republic.

Once all of the interim District Coordinators have been appointed, I plan to announce a contest between the districts for recruiting members and especially Precinct Leaders. So stay tuned for details!

Yours in liberty,
Ike Hall

I'm thrilled that the Campaign for Liberty has finally started! Those of us who attended the Rally for the Republic from Georgia were sitting on pins and needles waiting for the Campaign to kick off. Now it's here! And while the website is adding features every day, there is still plenty for us to do right now.

As of this writing, there are 162 Georgians that have signed up to the Campaign for Liberty, including 12 Precinct Leaders. I'd especially like to thank the Precinct Leaders for coming forward, and I encourage everyone here from Georgia to either become a Precinct Leader or volunteer personally to assist one.

The job of the Precinct Leader is going to be especially important in the days and weeks to come. The Campaign for Liberty is a grassroots organization, beginning from the smallest political unit: the precinct. As a Precinct Leader, you will have the tools you need to canvass your precincts and identify other supporters. You will also be in a position to communicate with voters in your precinct about the important issues of the day.

As the Campaign grows, we will be organizing District and State chapters. As a Precinct Leader, you will have a voice in the leadership at both levels and the opportunity to be elected. This is where your hard work in your precinct will pay off, as your fellow Precinct Leaders recognize your dedication.

I invite you to review two documents that we've posted over on www.r3volt.com for more insight as to what the Campaign for Liberty is all about, and some of our proposed methods. Fifteen Georgians attended the Leadership Summit at the Rally for the Republic, where we learned about the organization and the goals of the Campaign for Liberty, which is basically to take back our country, one precinct at a time. If you want to learn more, please go here. Many more Georgians attended the Real Politics Training Seminar, which described how politics really works and what makes politicians respect you. (Hint: they won't respect you unless they fear you.) You can find out more here.

In the days to come, we will be learning more about our precincts and introducing ourselves to our neighbors. So take a deep breath and let's get started! Feel free to ask me any questions as we go along, or you can ask other Precinct Leaders as well.

Thank you for being a part of history as we work to restore the American republic and once again show the world the true blessings of liberty.

Yours,
Ike Hall
