REAL ID ACTION ALERT: The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will be having hearings on the PASS Act  S. 1261. The PASS Act WILL NOT REPEAL REAL ID as it is being billed. It will only repeal certain portions like Title ii and in the end be worse than REAL ID once the PASS Act is inserted. REAL ID will REMAIN Federal law and will be stronger than before if passed.

Both the ACLU and the ACLJ are opposing the Real ID Act and the PASS Act.   (The ACLU and the ACLJ are the most prominent legal organizations on the "left" and "right" respectively.)

Special interests groups are trying to force Democrats, Independents and Republicans to support this legislation.  States have been and are working to ensure driver's licenses are secure documents and have document integrity.  The federal government, in spite of the states, wants to set international standards that are not needed.  The federal government wants control of your state driver's license.  The federal government is bribing states to go along with its plans.

Our freedom and our rights are not for sale.

Some governors want to take the bribe money.  The First, Fourth and Tenth Amendments are under attack.  The Second Amendment will follow.  This is not a partisan issue.  All Americans must take action now.

  • The PASS Act does not repeal the Real ID Act. It does repeal provisions of the Real ID Act; those provisions that are included in Title II of the Real ID Act 2005. The Real ID Act is still intact and is federal law.
  • The PASS Act contains many of the most egregious aspects of the Real ID Act; including the requirement for a digital facial image/photograph that will be mandated to be internationally facial recognition compatible.
  • There is not a federal law that prohibits the simultaneous use of CCTV/surveillance cameras and facial recognition technology in real time.
  • The PASS Act will do nothing to provide a higher level of National security.  Under the provisions of the PASS Act the documents used to obtain a driver's license are not authenticated.  These documents are called "breeder" documents.
  • Although requirements for new databases and the linking of databases are not part of the PASS Act the fact remains through aamva.net and NLETS states can still have information contained in their state Department of Motor Vehicles made available to both federal and international law enforcement agencies without a court order.
  • Two international agencies (AAMVA and the ICAO, an agency of the United Nations) were involved in U.S. policy and law - the Real ID Act 2005 and the newly proposed PASS Act.  DHS has called AAMVA the "hub" and "backbone" of the Real ID Act.  On AAMVA's own web-site it proclaims it is an international organization that serves law enforcement and motor vehicle administrators.
  • Both the Real ID Act and the PASS Act result in Americans being enrolled into a single global biometric identification system that links a person's body to their ability to buy and sell.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will be considering the legislation very soon.  The committee members and their phone numbers are listed below.  Ask your neighbors, friends, co-workers, relatives and everyone else you have contact with to make the calls as well.

Urgent action is needed!

New carbon taxing Cap-and Trade legislation H.R. 2454 narrowly passed through the House this week.  There is no doubt that if this bill is passed through the Senate and signed by the Executive Branch, it will be one of the largest federal taxes on the American public since the 16th amendment (Federal Income Tax) to the constitution.  This is a time not unlike the time of ratification of the 16th amendment, when large spending legislation was proposed and enacted. By way of the Federal Income Tax, a source of new revenue had now become legally accessible to fund future unconstitutional federal spending programs including new U.S. debt to be held by the Federal Reserve.

In our current situation, legislation for unprecedented federal stimulus packages and industrial bailouts of automotive, banking, and other corporate interests, has been sold to us as the only way out of the current economic crisis.  When questioned about funding for these and other proposed programs such as government health care, there have been few answers.  Our answer, in my view, is hidden in this outrageous proposal.
Any regulation that will impose additional taxes and fees based on an energy production's emission of a compound nearly all plant life on Earth requires to survive seems to be, in my view, a bit impractical.  Forecasts of skyrocketing energy costs have not only been predicted by the Republican right, but by President Obama himself!

It is time to act.  It is time to inform anyone and everyone you can of the duty we have to stop this proposal while we still can.  Call and e-mail your senators as often as you can to express your distaste for this proposal until the final votes are cast in the Senate.  They snuck a 300 page amendment and a vote in the House on Friday this week to pass the 1400+ page cap-and-trade bill, so be ready for misdirection.

Now is the time to keep pushing!

The following letter was sent today to Mr. Udall and Mr. Bennet seperately to garner support for S. 604 as well as question the President's proposal for additional powers of oversight for the Fed:

June 21, 2009

Dear Mr. (Udall / Bennet),

I am writing in reference to S 604 which was introduced on March 16, 2009.  This Senate companion to H.R. 1207 would provide much needed transparency in the Federal Reserve system in regard to monetary policy, negotiations with foreign governments, among other vital information which is currently inaccessible by current law.  The House version of the proposed legislation currently has over 230 cosponsors with strong bi-partisan support.  I am seeking your current position and support for this legislation.

In addition to this much needed legislation, I would like to express my great concern regarding President Obama's proposal to give the Fed additional oversight powers in the financial system.  It can be argued that the Fed failed the U.S. economy in the very recent past by keeping interest rates artificially low during a time of reckless lending procedures.  The Fed was created under the belief that it would be the last line of defense against drastic market fluctuations by regulating interest and monetary policy.  The details can be debated, but it is clear that the Fed is an entity that contributed in at least some degree to the current economic crisis.  Because of this fact, the Fed should be as open and transparent as any government agency, and should be held accountable for its current responsibilities before additional powers are granted.

Thank you for your time.

-Brock T. Southwick

As you've no doubt heard by now, Ron Paul's Audit the Fed Bill (H.R. 1207) has now passed 218 cosponsors, giving this vital reform the support of a majority on the U.S. House.

That's the good news. But here's the rest of the story.

I've seen a lot of well-intentioned news stories and posts over the last 24 hours incorrectly noting that this means it is out of Committee, on the House floor, or worse, assured of passage.

Please note that none of this is true - yet.

There is still MUCH work to be done, even in the House. You and I both know that the Fed and its allies will stop at nothing to hold onto their power. And there are a lot of tricks people can use even at this stage of the battle.

So please know - there's a long way to go, but thanks to you, we're getting closer every day to passing Audit the Fed!

The next step is hearings and a vote in the House Financial Services Committee. This has not been scheduled yet. After that the House can consider the bill.

We're optimistic with its bipartisan support in the House, that the Audit the Fed bill will proceed through Committee and to the House floor in the near future. And rest assured, Campaign for Liberty and Ron Paul are prepared to keep up the pressure - and use any available means - to pass Audit the Fed through the House.

More on this in the future, but for now, KEEP UP THE PRESSURE!

CONTINUED ACTION ITEM

Ron Paul's bill to audit the Federal Reserve (HR 1207) now has 109 co-sponsors, and the numbers keep growing!

This is history in the making, and victory is within reach. Imagine what will happen if HR 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act, comes up for vote in Congress! With 25% of Congress already co-sponsoring this bill, it has real potential to pass - BUT only if we educate and rally the people to support it and get our Congresspeople to put it to vote and pass it.
Step 1: Your Representative

If your representative is not on the following list of HR 1207 co-sponsors, call their offices, write to them, email them, etc. Let them know they need to support HR 1207. If you live in their district, let them know. Go to their office.

Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

See updated list above

Step 2: Financial Services Committee

HR 1207 is now in the House Committee on Financial Services. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP in this legislation! If it doesn't get out of committee it will not come to a vote! There are 71 members on this committee and they are all listed below.

We need to let all members of the House Committee on Financial Services know that we want them to allow full House consideration of HR 1207 so it can move forward; we need them to support this. Now is the time.

Call their offices, write to them, email them, etc. Let them know they need to support HR 1207. If you live in their district, let them know. Go to their office.

Start with Barney Frank! His staff said that his office isn't receiving a lot of calls about HR 1207... let's change that!

Help with this all important public outreach. NOW REALLY IS THE TIME!

Here's a sample letter you can use:

Dear Representative,

Please co-sponsor and/or support H.R.1207, an effort to audit the Federal Reserve.

Recently, it has come to light that there is little to no accountability to the people on the part of the Federal Reserve. While the citizens of this country are required by law to give an accounting of every penny they come in contact with, the Federal Reserve has never been held to the same standard. During this time of extreme economic crisis, the people deserve an accounting of where our money is going.

Currently there are 109 co-sponsors for this legislation, and it is enjoying bi-partisan support. Your efforts in supporting this important legislation would go a long way in proving to your constituents that you not only hold the Federal Reserve to the same standard as you do your constituents, but it would also show that you believe in transparency. Anything less than support for this resolution suggests that you are in favor of secrecy and a lack of accountability to the people who pay the bills. We pay the tab; we have a right to know where our money is going.

Unlike recent bills that you voted in favor of that had hundreds of pages and just a few hours to read, this bill can be read in under 5 minutes. I encourage you to take the time to read it, and then move to support it.

Thank you in advance for your attention on this important legislation. I have every expectation that you will do right by your constituents and support this measure.

Sincerely,

Step 3: The People

Tell everyone you know about HR 1207 and ask them to support it and to contact their representative as well. Link to this page and to CampaignForLiberty.com.

This initiative is crucial and we need to redouble our efforts to get HR 1207 passed.
